Determining the reason no one replied to your Lemmy post.

I was playing around with Lemmy statistics the other day, and I decided to take the number of comments per post. Essentially a measure of engagement – the higher the number the more engaging the post is. Or in other words how many people were pissed off enough to comment, or had something they felt like sharing. The average for every single Lemmy instance was 8.208262964 comments per post.

So I modeled that with a Poisson distribution, in stats terms X~Po(8.20826), then found the critical regions assuming that anything that had a less than 5% chance of happening, is important. In other words 5% is the significance level. The critical regions are the region either side of the distribution where the probability of ending up in those regions is less than 5%. These critical regions on the lower tail are, 4 comments and on the upper tail is 13 comments, what this means is that if you get less than 4 comments or more than 13 comments, that's a me

Does feddit.de work?

Good morning everyone, we noticed that feddit.de has been unreachable since last night (server error). But how come I from Mastodon or Lemmy.ml can find some messages published this morning? Maybe the problem is only with the web server? While can you still connect via the app?
Can anyone give me an explanation?

PeerTube Federation broken?

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/15180175

In this case, it's one specific channel: https://diode.zone/c/andybalaam_lectures/videos?s=1. That is, !andybalaam_lectures@diode.zone. It's run by @andybalaam@lemmy.ml / @andybalaam@mastodon.social

AFAICT, federation hasn't been working from this channel to lemmy for ~3 months, for all the instances I checked (perhaps a particular lemmy version broke things?).

browse (Old) Reddit with Lemmy style

don't know if this is the correct community to post this on, but is there a way to style Reddit (most likely old Reddit but it doesn't matter) with a similar style to Lemmy? there are a few small subreddits I still browse (because there is no Lemmy equivalent) and it would be cool if I could style it like the regular Lemmy style (if you need an example: lemmy.ml)

I know there are frontends for viewing Lemmy instances like Reddit, but I haven't heard of any way to do the reverse.

it could be through a stylesheet, an alternative frontend, even just a pointer on how you could style a website into a different style.
\ thanks!

Several new communities to talk about which Lemmy instances are working or not. You can also discuss issues with federation as well as issues with Kbin or other parts of the fediverse. I've created communities on multiple instances to provide redundancy in case any one of these has to be discussed.

Posts from startrek.website don't federate well

Image posts from startrek.website don't seem to load when they appear on my timeline, to see them I need to go in the thread and open the image in a separate tab as a direct link.

Here's a screenshot of how !risa@startrek.website looks to me:

This happens only when I view its content from blahaj, if I visit the website directly everything looks fine.

Edit: Ok, I also tried accessing risa though lemmy.ml and the result is the same, but if I try though feddit.de then it works fine.

Edit2: The problem was Ublock origin, I'm not sure how but tinkering with it fixed the issue.

Tool for moderators: Violentmonkey/Greasemonkey script to list communities you moderate below your profile link

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/3689844

This is a User Script I made that makes some adjustments to Lemmy’s UX (works on lemmy.world and lemmy.ml).

Project page: https://github.com/pro-tarr/lemmy-ux-improvements

What it does

  • Quick access to communities you moderate: This script adds a list of the communities you moderate right below your profile link in the top-right menu, so you don't need to load the profile page just to access your communities.

  • Open thumbnail links in a new tab: Links in thumbnails will automatically open in a new tab (image links will continue with their default behavior).

If you want to improve this in-a-rush code, expanding its features of fixing bugs, feel free to send pull requests.
