List of popular Lemmy communities and their alternatives

Just by checking https://lemmy.ml/communities one can see the most popular communities of lemmy.ml. The plan here is to list all the alternatives for those from other instances. One can also suggest alternatives to be added here and I update this living document.

  • Beehaw seems to make a fair bit of effort in providing communities for most common topics and providing content in a non-toxic and non-politically polarized environment. Would recommend alternatives in either of the two recommended instances.

  • Nice list.

NRSK.no is a rather new Norwegian instance, and it looks like we're going for mostly Norwegian language posts. One community dedicated to content in English is Norway, where everybody is welcome to both subscribe and post.

    Our Meta-community is Main.

  • I just started !titanfall@sopuli.xyz, the one sub from reddit I feel like I could run myself. Come join if you're a fan of the game/games! There were more that I was active in, I'm going to be trying to be even more of a contributor than I was on reddit, but I'll ramp up as I figure out lemmy.

  • Once one of these get big enough, not a bad idea to make those on other instances. In case the instance goes down, admin goes rogue etc.

  • I'm very new to Lemmy and trying to find some interesting and live communities. I found this list and it is not good at all. Check !memes@lemmy.ca - 0 posts. Check other one - 1 post. Check another one - someone reposts links from twitter. That is not helpful list.

    • The purpose of this list is simply to collect alternative communities on different Lemmy instances, not to filter them out by popularity or a similar metric.
