  • For some reason, this reminds me of that Historian that reviews movies and stuff and talks about how everyone should dig ditches to fight off the enemy. Every movie where they need to defend. Dig ditches.

  • First thing I did when I bought mine was to open up my Steam Deck and put in a new hard drive.

Most difficult thing was some of the screws felt over-tightened.

That was about it to be honest. I also heard the battery glue is really strong so I'm not looking forward to that in the future for me.

  • trump says he is going to fix everything and the democrats are telling them that the economy is doing great actually

I felt this was a bit of failed messaging on the Democrats. I think they did point out some of the struggles but when talking about the economy and immediately pointing to stock market highs when the cost of living has sharply risen very recently doesn't connect.

Trump's magic is that he has verbal diarrhea and it's kinda like an empty slate where you take whatever you want from his speeches.

  • Yeah it feels like the MCU ran over everyone's dog or something. I get the arguments where people say it's not real art or that studios put out shlock because they're trying to copy the MCU. I don't know if I necessarily agree.

However, what about the meme about just letting people enjoy things?

Let me clear. Last MCU movie I watched was like Shang Chi and I lost interest after Loki and Wandavision (great shows). So like, I'm not a fan anymore and I ain't watching any of their movies any time soon.

  • I'm conflicted on this. Back in the day, I would normally say: building your own computer was the bar (which includes the OS to me).

Times have changed and all of a sudden (or so it feels) it seems that navigating UIs seems to be making people tech savvy? Quite a lot of kids can navigate things faster than I can, but don't really get what an OS is at all. That makes sense because iPads, Android Phones, Macs and most machines don't require any building or OS installation.

  • As The Guardian reports, vegan diets result in 75% less climate-heating emissions than meat-rich ones. Avoiding meat and dairy has been identified as the “single biggest way” to reduce your impact on Earth.

I remember an old QI episode where Stephen Fry asked how a family could reduce their carbon footprint. Panelists said to get rid of the car. The answer was to get rid of the dog because of the meat it ate. I was like, isn't the best solution recommending the entire family to go vegan?

  • I heard Theo talking about this and I think he guessed that they don't want to maintain these against forks is the number of people raising issues that are not related to the extension and more due to the fork.

His video goes into a lot of good detail as to what's likely going on.

What Theo also says is that remember that they don't make any money off of VSCode at all.

  • Yeah there's something to that. Like I feel as though we should always be doing stuff but not what it is that we're currently doing?

Like, we should be waking up and having tea with our neighbors or helping out in our communities and stuff .. perhaps just building, planting, fixing things that we'd like? I don't feel as though we should be fighting deadlines constantly.

  • Wait Christini Ricci is in this? She was like one of my childhood crushes. Definitely gonna check it out.

I think I avoided it earlier because I didn't know what to expect from the movie. It was the Wachowskis and I was like, I don't want to ruin the Matrix pedestal I put them on. I think my friend said to me, "dude it's just speedracer, you shouldn't be having that high of expectations".

  • I always think back to this one:

Leela: "that guy's turning this place into some sort of 'business'"

Professor: "this isn't a business, I've always thought of it more as a source of cheap labor ... like a family"

I don't know why I like it so much. I could see the punchline coming but how the exchange got there makes me smile every time.

  • I didn't know I had this many walking amongst me. Of the ones I've spoken with they seem to share these values:

They seem to hate that Ontario is forcing "gays" on kids at such a young age. I'm assuming my friend meant teaching about accepting people from different backgrounds, as I don't think sex education applied to the age range he was referring.

They think they're being taxed too highly (that's fine).

They think US Healthcare woes are exaggerated. One said that you don't really pay that fee, it's a different fee and it's not that much. Another said: I don't go to the hospital that often.

They think life will be better in the States with all the untaxed dollars they'll have.

(I will reiterate that these are just the ones that I've spoken with) I'm just wondering why they don't just move there. If you hate being Canadian so much start the process of emigration ...

  • They display the product’s energy efficiency rating, on a scale from A to G, along with battery life, the number of charge cycles the battery is rated for, letter grades for durability and repairability, and any applicable IP rating for protection from dust and water.

It looks like individual scores for the battery and repairability. The battery score seems to be just charge cycles. Repairability would probably something similar to iFixit but we'll have to see. I do like this though or at least the attempt of it.

Alongside the labels the EU is introducing “ecodesign requirements” imposing minimum standards on the same products. Those include protection from splashes of water (and dust particles larger than 1mm for phones), scratch and drop protection, batteries that retain at least 80 percent of their capacity after 800 charging cycles, and making “critical spare parts” available within 5-10 working days.

Is anyone else getting these CPC text messages?

If you're voting conservative or liberal or NDP or Green, whatever ...

I didn't sign up for any list. I also heard that you shouldn't text STOP to these messages because they use that as confirmation of my number?

I reported it to spam, I'm just curious if these are legit and how you handle these?

Are Easter Baskets A Thing Where You're From?

I'm watching a video by Zac Rios about people buying lavish Easter Baskets for their kids and such:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDfCjp9fSGI

I know there's an Easter hunt in school and for kids and stuff, but I've never received or heard anyone receiving an Easter basket as a gift living in Canada/UK for the past 40 years of my life.

I googled and "Google AI" says that it is a thing in Canada, but I don't trust it.

Is this a thing that I've completed missed? If this is a tradition for you, where are you from and how long have you done this?

Check out this week's Better Offline podcast, "The Man That Destroyed Google Search," available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and anywhere else you get your podcasts. This is the story of how Google Search died, and the people responsible for killing it. The story...

The Man Who Killed Google Search

It's a story from April, I tried seeing if it was posted before, however it's the story about how the advertising and finance team beat the search team into submission by ousting the core person protecting it to pursue "growth" and "revenue" at all costs.
