  • For me I can largely minimize this by working full time and having a time consuming hobby. Recently I've opened up to my roomate and we've gotten really close, but when I feel like I'm becoming obsessive I try to sidetrack myself on working on 3d print models or coding or some long story based game. It's not a perfect solution (definitely hard to peel myself off of them sometimes if I'm already around them) but I've at least gotten to "not annoying enough to cut off" levels lol

  • Containers are ment to be used with docker networks making it a non-issue, most of the time you want your services to forward 80/443 since thats the default port your reverse proxy is going to call

  • This is also my goal! ...since 2020.

I love vim/nvim but I've gotten used to using VIM more as a text editor then an IDE. Writing a script? Taking notes? Maybe even a small program? VIM all the way. Working on a big project that needs an LSP? Either spend the next 20 hours fucking with your VIM config and 20 plugins to get basic functionality... Or just open VSCode and install one plugin

Heres to hoping since NVIM 0.11 with their LSP overhaul I can finnally make the full switch

  • As much as I glaze RISC-V, its an embedded architecture firstmost. RISC-V gets a more powerful SOC released now and then but theres not massive adoption for general computing like there is for ARM, leading back into the problem of "Why go with RISC-V when ARM is far more mature?". And almost no company is building new assembly lines when 99% of their customers dont give a shit about computing freedom

  • As far as I know everyone making x86 CPUs have no intrest in the phone space :(. While x86 CPUs can be optimized to near ARM efficiency, it just doesn't make sense for manufacturers to do so when ARM exists and is fully mature as a phone platform. There are tons of x86 tablets, but that's because they simply share their laptop counterparts CPU instead of a mega optimized brand new cpu

  • This is perfect middle step, thank you!

  • Also using fedora kde :D

I've just never encountered a problem with focus stealing or alt-tab issues and leave my drawing tablet/second display plugged in. My friend who runs side by side monitors also has no problems on their arch kde setup. Might just be a weird hardware+application combination problem for some

Edit: try digging in the kde focus settings, I think theres an option to tune focus steeling

  • Might just br a gnome issue and not a wayland one, KDE and wlroots based compositors do much better at fullscreening and alt-tabbing games then x11 ever did for me. Esspecially on my desktop that has a second monitor

  • Defaults are good for me but I like mounting my secondary drive to ~/Storage with subfolders media, projects, games

  • Sorry I was referring to End4's EWW/AGS shells not the frameworks themselves

  • Sorry for the late response

End4 is the first one that comes to mind since the dev has made a shell in most big widget framworks at this point. Great project to take inspo and some code from but AGS/EWW shells are archived

Hyprpanel is still being maintained and probably the best base to chose if your going with AGS

Otherwise check r/unixporn and sort top with the keyword "AGS" or "EWW" and your find a couple more

  • Ive seen some cool big projects made with AGS/Astal and EWW but their both gtk based, and gtk has been the defacto for years in making your own enviorment. Quickshell is intresting because its QT based instead, and since the ricing community likes new or different things were all trying out quickshell

  • I mean we have this as a real thing with "speed traps" where the limit just drops 10mph for zero reason for half a mile so cops can loiter and give tickets

But I feel as though speeds are already too high for the dumbfucks in giant SUVs who got their license 40 years ago and have lost every braincell related to safe driving due to a crippling alchohol addiction. I propose a "fast lane v2 electric boogaloo" on highways or long stretches thats only available once you take a special, much harder driving test that needs to be renewed every 6 months or so set at 120mph(extream flats) and can slow to 60mph(extremely weavy mountainside turns)

  • I am honored to be friends with THE shoofly :D

  • The lack of talk about shoofly pie really saddens me since its the best pie

  • Clearly you've never had shoofly pie

  • I giggled a little too hard since I actually ended up in a psych ward while moving cross country and made some friends there. Unfortunately my stay was 2 states away from the one I live in now so not even that worked out lol

But thank you for the advice and I think I'll check out joining sometype of sport, most likely rock climbing(always had an intrest but never the motivation) since that seems to be widely recommended and just seems like a fun time even if I don't end up meeting anyone

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

    Where to make local friends?

  • While I agree that we have the technology to wildly decreas emissions by just cutting down on inefficient production, I do want to point out people did infact starve due to covid/lockdowns. Many lost jobs, big corps took the opportunity to run mom and pop shops out of buissness, prices skyrocketed. My family wen't from scrapping by to relying on food drives

  • If your truely going the endevour route, here some tips on recoving from a broken state:

    • The archwiki is your friend, read the relevant pages before asking on forums

    • Install arch manually (no archinstall) and thoroughly read the wiki to understand how your system is put together. Then install endevour, just from doing a manual arch install you should have the knowlage to fix like 90% of issues

    • Learn the basics of systemD, will also help you on 99% of mainstream distros

    • Keep your /home directory on a seperate partition, useful for doing a system rescue and for distrohopping
