  • @callyral @grue don't forget disabled people. Cars are always touted as the solution for disability but there are many disabilities which completely remove driving as a possibility (blindness, epilepsy, many learning disabilities, many physical disabilities ... And generally being elderly, if we're honest) and car dependence leaves you entirely reliant on a chauffeur of some kind for any and every time you want to leave the house.

  • @longjohnjohnson @MicroWave isn't everyone else still on 10% too?!

  • @kryptonianCodeMonkey @TheBat Very difficult for a cult member to deprogram themselves

  • @CrowyTech feels like we've spent years and still nobody in parliament understands tech or even why they should understand it.

  • @CrowyTech yep. Not sure about the Greens, too - they're pushing for Customs Union and opposing divide and rule at least. But not much voice in parliament.

  • @CrowyTech my MP is LD so she'll probably say "yes, I agree they should, aren't they awful" and that'll be it. But I might give it a go.

  • @Dagwood222 @Fredthefishlord I mean it's stupid that it was even close, but Dubya's brother stole the election for him. Pretty much accepted fact now that if the recounts had actually been allowed then Gore would have won. US elections are awful. https://youtu.be/jucDFrO89Ko

  • @FilthyHookerSpit @Freshparsnip the thing I find weird is that not a single county flipped red to blue, but 88 flipped blue to red. Just demographic changes would usually mean one almost-blue changes hands. All one way hasn't happened since Hoover, so you'd think, from that, that Trump had a MASSIVE margin.

  • @Maiq @silence7 I still don't get it. You'd think that even a Russian asset, as a malignant narcissistic demagogue, on becoming president of the largest economy in the world with the most powerful army, would just go 'actually f you, I'm a bigger deal than you now, and your army and economy have both been ripped to shreds since I last got booted out anyway.' Like, why's he reducing the power/influence of the US and therefore his own power?!

  • @TwinTitans @MicroWave I mean I get your point. But how long do you expect a car to last in the US? We have one car and it's a 2012 reg that we bought secondhand in 2018...

  • @OutlierBlue @Chainweasel the rich have forgotten they should vote for social safety nets because otherwise the poor have nothing to lose.

  • @raef @thefluffiest Pretty sure ChatGPT went down a list according to trade ratios:

![Screenshot from vfxgordon's Threads (I think!) profile):

Also note that the tariffs are not broken down by country, they're broken down by top level internet domain.

It's why islands that are populated entirely by penguins (the .nm domain) and why the Diego Garcia military base on BIOT (.io) are listed, also why Reunion (.re) and Gibraltar (.gi) are listed separately from France & the UK.

They 100% used an LLM to generate this list and didn't catch the mistake because they're all dumb as rocks. ](https://lazysoci.al/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.mstdn.social%2Fmedia_attachments%2Ffiles%2F114%2F273%2F863%2F193%2F645%2F966%2Foriginal%2Fe7984d3425ebbc34.png)

  • @drkt @futatorius gotcha. In your example "designing away stupid" sounds like it might be... well... eugenics. Very much happy to agree that that doesn't work.

  • @futatorius @drkt basically every (successful) safety feature in anything is an example of designing away stupid (plenty of examples where it designs in stupid too, though). And just as important, designing away tired/distracted. Everyone makes mistakes, even when they're not idiots. It's this isn't it https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hierarchy/_of/_hazard/_controls

  • Nut nut

  • @GreatAlbatross @tiramichu plenty of UK crisps (including Kettle, established in here somewhere - based in Norfolk, owned in Europe). Corkers, Pipers, Tyrrells, Two Farmers come to mind. Don't think any of them are owned internationally? I come from potato country - so many crisp factories round here!

  • @AA5B that's why he's pulled Stefanik back in - he needs every seat

  • @Eheran @RaoulDook no. Didn't get 50% of the vote. Only 1.7% margin vs Harris. 11th smallest margin ever (including 5 negative, eg 2016).
When he claims a landslide it's because he wants to claim he has a mandate.
TBH the numbers are really weird. Getting that small a margin but winning every swing state is not likely. And every county that flipped, flipped one way to him, which hasn't happened since Hoover. Again, on that margin that's quite the feat.
