  • I'm surprised we made it 100 days without Trump firing any of his own hires.
In his first term it seemed like we couldn't go a week without somebody being fired and him making a statement about not knowing them personally or having never met them.
I'd expect more to follow shortly though, it's an addiction for him and now that he got that taste of dopamine he gets from a power trip, he'll probably be doing more of it.

  • It won't stop with journalists and authors. They'll be looking in Facebook posts, Reddit comments, Twitter threads, Instagram, etc. And random citizens are going to start disappearing.
They'll want people to know it can happen to anyone, not just the most visible or high profile critics.

  • Bezos has one goal: self enrichment.
If Trump's in the way, he's going to be a petty bitch about it.
Honestly as big of a piece of shit as bezos is, he's ten times better then musk.
    Musk has multiple goals:

    1. self enrichment.
    2. create a fascist state.
    3. do as much irreparable damage as possible
  • I literally can't go a full day on lemmy without seeing a self-described leftist shit on other left-leading groups.

"Oh you voted for Harris? You might as well have just went ahead and voted for Trump. She was going to do worse things to Gaza anyway"

"Bernie checks 90% of the boxes I want in a candidate but that last 10% is a total deal breaker, so he's just another mainstream liberal"

What's the endgame when the rich have all the money?

Corporate culture is based on constant growth and ever increasing profit margins. Eventually they'll amass so much of the wealth that most of the lower class won't be able to purchase anything other than essentials like food.
No new cars, no tech gadgets, no fancy dinners, no vacations, no disposable income.
When we get there the economy collapses because there's no money going into it.
The profits stop rolling in, unnecessary goods stop being produced, and the luxury goods producer's shut down.
At this point the money they worked so hard to hoard becomes worthless because they can't buy anything with it.
What's the endgame for them if their current path takes them to a point where their assets are more or less worthless?

can't highlight text at all to copy.

Long pressing on a comment has always collapsed it unless you were replying to the comment, then you could long press to highlight a string of text to quote for a reply.
Now, long pressing closes the parent in reply mode and there is no way to highlight text to copy for quoting purposes.

why isn't anyone calling for Trump to drop out.

I get it, Biden is old and that's a problem, but why doesn't anyone seem to have a problem with the fact that Trump is almost the same age, has 34 felonies, raped at least 2 women, went to Epstein's Island 11 times, sexualized his own daughter, stole classified documents, aligned himself with Xi and Putin, and can't remember common names?

Is all of that really better than being 2½ years older than he is right now?

    Based on a true story

My OS is on a 512gb M.2 drive, but the main storage on my laptop was a 1TB HDD, it started making noise about 2 weeks ago so I backed everything up onto a 1TB SanDisk USB SSD. This afternoon it got very clicky when I booted it up after work and icons for a few games I had stored on it, like KSP and YUZU, disappeared from the desktop and taskbar.

PEMDAS is technically correct, but morally wrong

If we're supposed to be able to understand math as easily as a language, we should be able to read it from left to right like a language.
Yes, I know there's lots other languages that go right to left or top to bottom, but the point is you don't have to go jumping around the page or sentence figuring out which word should be read first based on which characters it contains.
We put the first word first, then the second word second, etc.
Why can't we just write equations in the order they were meant to be solved?

Tracking and marketing metadata probably make up a significant share all data storage available worldwide.

Edit: I mean to say just a significant amount, not a majority. That's obviously porn.

    mod tools?

I moderate a very small community but I'd like to be able to pin posts and have access to other general moderator tools like removing posts/comments and locking threads.
It doesn't seem that I can do any of that with Connect and it's cumbersome at best to try to do it on a mobile browser.
Are there any plans to implement mod tools? Or is there a setting I missed somewhere that enabls them?

so this might be a little embarrassing, but how do I create a torrent and upload to a tracker?

I've been seeding the torrents that I download since the old days of Limewire, but I've always download and re-shared by seeding.
But a few months ago I couldn't find a set of audiobooks I'd been looking for with the original narrators from the 90s.
I finally found a set on CD on eBay and coverted those to mp3 and loaded them on my phone, but it occurred to me that others might also be looking for a complete version of the series too and wanted to share that media.
Apologies if it's an obvious answer that I somehow missed.

This is the only Lemmy client I'm using so it may be a sitewide issue, but is anyone else getting threads from 2-3 years ago mixed in with the other results when sorting by "Hot"?
