  • I can say it was a way to reach an end, but it wasn’t the only way to reach that end. Society in the formative ages could have just as easily organized around collective strength and pack principals instead of magical thinking. It served some purpose, but it was a poor way to reach that end. It is a net negative on humanity, but it’s how we got here so we have to deal with its corrosive residue in society today.

  • Social / cultural norms don’t require belief systems and made up deities to function. Putting that magical thinking to it makes people fanatical and works against logic or ideological evolution. Religion has always worked against societal advancement. It was a collective delusion to soothe ancient fears of a world we could not comprehend. Clinging to it now is just a salve to people’s fear of death. It’s a weak minded cope to fragile egos who can’t stand that we are just animals and there is no greater purpose to our existence. It helps powerful people to get poor people to die for their causes and to manipulate emotions. It’s a disease against progress.

  • It mostly means the lowest information voters. The ones who tend to live in myopic bubbles of their own selfish interest. They don’t understand government or complex systems like economies. They just go off of their “common sense” intuition which is easily influenced by the basic surface level arguments like Trump makes. They are the ones politicians pander to most in elections because they can be swayed easily and are least likely to pay close attention to the policy outcomes.

  • Blame the right wing you rich corporations empowered with your self destructive lobbying and weakening of regulation. You and your billionaire counterparts’ push to the right has broken down the very order that brought you the wealth and stability that centered world markets on the U.S. Your reckless pursuit of endless growth will kill the world order that created America’s prosperity. These corporation drank too much of their own Kool-aid.

  • It’s great. It’s super relaxing and a great way to stay at interesting places on the cheap. You can learn a lot of useful skills doing it as well. Humans lived most of our existence much more in the outdoors than today. I think it’s therapeutic to connect with nature in a more direct way like a lot of camping styles / locations can offer.
