  • You've never seen the "I wouldn't even date you" negging, where adult-aged boys try to trick women into pleading their case to the kid?

I think I go to the bar 2 or 3 times a year, and I've seen it several times. I'm glad that doesn't seem to be as much of a thing in the gay community, at least that I've seen.

  • A foreign megacorp using their money to try to influence Canadian politics.
Bill s-210 is a privacy nightmare, basically requiring you to give your government-issued photo ID to tech companies.

    • everything NSFW you have ever looked up is connected to your real life identity.
    • Mega corps often bend to government requests for data
    • certain things, like being LGBTQ+, get you jailed or killed in some countries
  • I don't care about Trump's feeling, I care about the feelings of others.

I've had sex with a few guys with very small penises, and they often seem afraid of being rejected or insulted once we're both nude.

  • They're just other cards in disguise.

Some of them are owned by Citibank, which makes them not Visa or Mastercard, but Citibank is still American owned. The other issue is that many stores in Canada are still owned by Americans or American companies.

  • It's about proving who was the original creator/user of the IP, instead of who is the first to file to have that IP protected.

The flipside of this would be having random holding companies just mass filing for ownership of everything posted online, said, written-down, or created, in the hopes that they get approved first so they can sue others, even the creators, for using it.

Look at the "very demure, very mindful" woman, Jools Lebron. Someone else (Jefferson Bates) file to trademark the saying because the original creator didn't think to until after it was viral. Because the laws are ultimately about proving who was the creator, and not who filed first in the USA, it's likely that Jools will get ownership, eventually.

  • shows that aren’t stupid gimmicks.

I don't own a tv, but what are the gimmick-based shows? Schitt's Creek, Baroness von Sketch Show, and Kim's Convenience are recent(ish) CBC shows that did very well.

  • I think the main point of federation is being able to see something from Lemmy.zip with an account on Lemmy.ca. So if one service goes down, or a there is a difference of opinion on what the rules should be, the whole platform of "Lemmy" doesn't go up in flames.

This prevents one person or group from controlling everything.

  • The grumpy answer: Don't mix and match across platforms.

They are very different platforms that serve very different purposes, and they have very different layouts. Viewing things from different instances using the same service works quite well, but even when cross-platform things work, it's not a great experience.

If you want to see stuff on Mastodon server, use a Mastodon account. If you want to see something on Pixelfed, use a pixelfed account, if you want to see stuff on Lemmy, use a Lemmy account.

  • I would like to remind you that we didn't provoke Russia into bombing Georgia, or invading Ukraine.

Fuck fossil fuels, but fuck the narrative that the Russian government isn't fully culpable for their acts of war and invasions.

Going to start running V5, any advice?

So, I haven't dabbled in the Word of Darkness ("WoD") or the Vampire games since I was an early teen. I only played like 2 sessions, so I am not worried about rules for other editions coming into my head. That being said, what rules am I going to get wrong when running a game of the newest edition of Vampire the Masquerade ("V5")?

Any decent house-rules out there? Any advice?

Max number of communities modded by one person.

If you look at the communities tab and sort by new, more communities there have 0 posts than have more than 10 posts. It seems like people are just making communities for the sake of having something to control, without any interest of actually contributing. Often times the communities are opposing, so it's not as if the mod actually has knowledge or an interest in all 6 sides.

Is there any discussion behind the scenes on a way to curb this. or is this not a concern at this time because lemmy is still small?

Can we defederate from Alien.top? It's just bots.

Alien.top's raison-d'etre is to create bots and repost things from Reddit.

The instance makes a bot with the same username as the poster from reddit, then makes a bot with the same username as all the commenters, and re-posts each comment.

Every alien.top user in this thread is a bot.

I did a quick check, and it looks like 138 of the comments are bots.
