Nothing to see here, just join lemmy promoting a pedophile instance. Not a good look for the fediverse

In case anyone is wondering, it's rqd2.

The definition of paraphilia is "a condition characterized by abnormal sexual desires, typically involving extreme or dangerous activities.", which can inclde pedophilia.
It has recieved 4 censures from fediseer due to the content contained on that instance
Not a good look for Lemmy to be promoting any instance like that.

That instance list is built completely automatically by a crawler, no one approves instances before they are listed. In this case it was removed as soon as we became aware of it. Next time please make a pull request like that one, its much more effective than complaining.

This definitely needs to get pushed to the two main devs for lemmy as they control that website
- I wouldn't hold your breath, they didn't even want to remove the Nazi instance in their AMA.
  Edit: To the responses, great, it's gone. Removing that pedo content shows that they're not too overworked to purge content like that from join-lemmy. So there's no reason for them not to remove the Nazi instances being advertised on the front page of join-lemmy. We'll just look the other way on that one I guess.

I was a teacher for a private company at 17. I taught kids aged 6-14. A couple of my students I had occasional intrusive sexual thoughts about.
She was 8, which was way below my AoA of 12+, and she certainly hadn’t started puberty. But she was attractive. She made me nervous, I thought about her everyday, I envisioned what we’d do together–she was just like any crush to me, only instead of an adult, she was a kid. But does that really make a difference? She was a person. What should age have to do with love? Eventually shit happened.

  "Transabled" is a term some people use that wish to be disabled. There were even cases of people who paid doctors illegally to amputate a limb or they hurt themselves.
  "Transage" are people who believe they actually have a different age. For example they feel like they are really 13. Some of them use that to justify relationships with minors.
  They try to piggyback on the trans movement and present mental acrobatics in a whole new dimension of fucked up to explain why they are supposedly similar to people who are trans. (Which they really obviously aren't, I think that doesn't need explaining.)
  And you can bet on it that trolls and right wingers use these obscure group of mentally unwell people to attack LGBTQ people and movements.

  The person in the quote you're responding to is saying they actually abused a child and are defending that act. IMO this in particular should be much more harshly condemned; communities of people excusing and telling each other it's ok to abuse children.

Lemmy really really needs instance blocking. Yes I know some clients have it but Lemmy itself needs a way to enable users to fully block another instance and all of its communities.

It's a disgusting, terrible instance. Back when I added them to our blocklist and fediseer they even had pedobear on display as if they were proud. They have a MAP community and Pedo memes.

  Sadly not all of them are. I looked at the instance and clicked on a post where they share some book that collects "positive examples of grownup-child sexual relationships". With a huge rabbit hole attached I won't descend further into. This is legit some dark corner of the internet shit.

  I apologize, I thought I did, I read the rules, and I read on the frontpage, and it seemed pretty harmless.
  And there were no posts here that showed anything actually wrong, but mostly what seemed like knee jerk reactions to the accusation.
  Had I dug one step deeper, I would have found it. But my diligence wasn't diligent enough, and I wrongfully concluded it was an anti LGBT issue.

The lemmy.ml devs were ok with Nazi instances being on join-lemmy "because people can just choose to join a different instance if they want" (or words to that effect) so it'll be interesting to see how far they take that line of reasoning.
- It looks like the instance has only existed for about a month, so it's not too surprising it hasn't been noticed before now.
  They already removed pedo instances before, so they'll probably remove this one. They seem to draw a much harder line on pedophilia than politics.

  But it makes perfect sense now, they only follow those rules strictly because they must. They would probably love if they could break them if they thought they could get away with it.

Every single I've seen something horrible from a fedi site, it's been on lemmy. I would block all of lemmy, but then my feed would be dry. I've seen much worse things here in a few months than I did for the on and off years on reddit. I honestly might just quit kbin and fediverse sites all together, I've already stopped recommending it to people. There is a servere lack of moderation and a large attraction to certain types of people to populate here. I see this going similar to voat, just harshly left rather than harshly right.
- Freedom from corporate interests means greater personal responsibility. We can't have one without the other. All of us bear a responsibility to raise awareness about this stuff and inform our instance admins. It's the cost of not using corporate platforms.

Yeah I'm deleting this app now. I love a nice alternative to reddit, but considering how much unblurred porn bleeds through to my timeline with no provocation, I really don't want to run the risk of something truely heinous like whatever is associated with this making it to my Frontpage.

- You have an account on an instance with a very active admin team. We were even the first one to report this specific instance to the rest of the admins. We didn't do it in public to not give them any kind of exposure.
  As others in this thread have suggested, you can disable NSFW communities completely by disabling the NSFW flag in your user settings.
- If it helps, I use kbin.social (and its PWA for mobile browsing) and haven't seen any porn at all in my feed. I assume it's filtered out by default, but I haven't checked. I don't get any of the extreme political stuff in my feed either.
  
  Yep, there was some in the early days but nowadays it seems to be gone to the point I think it's bugged and hiding all NSFW content regardless of your profile setting.

  You don't see porn on the front page of lemmy either, if you used the "subscribed" view, instead of treating "ALL" as if it doesn't contain everything.
- It's honestly depressing at how Lemmy has turned over the last few months since I joined. I would now never mention I use the site or recommend it to others. There's just too many fucking landmines for new users to step over to have a good experience here.
  I'm sticking with it for the time being, but I don't see myself ever using it again if it gets worse.
