Bulletins and News Discussion from February 17th to February 23rd, 2025 - The Sankara Renaissance - COTW: Burkina Faso

Image is of the Memorial of the Martyrs (or, the Monument of National Heroes), conceived of by Thomas Sankara and constructed in the early 2000s, honouring those who died in the revolution.

The government of Burkina Faso has done that thing that imperialist nations most dread - land reform.

The Council of Ministers has adopted a bill which means that the nation's land now belongs to the state, in order to regulate land use and make it more sustainable, as well as to solve land conflicts. It's important to note that they are respecting the importance of customary rights in rural land for Burkina Faso nationals. Meanwhile, foreigners can no longer acquire titles of property on rural land.

This new law is part of a series of improvements to Burkina Faso implemented by the country under Traore (who, of course, faces assassination attempts on a regular basis). For example, the state has recently recognized the status of chiefs through the country, putting them under a clearer legal framework and involving them more in public affairs. Late last year, Burkina Faso also nationalized two gold mines, Boungou and Wahgnion, owned by foreign corporations. Burkina Faso is the 13th largest gold producer in the world despite its relatively small size, and yet most of the wealth produced is - or, was - siphoned off to the imperialist core. And, after years of research and development, they've made a new electric car - the Itaoua - which can travel up to 330 kilometers after only 30 minutes of charging.

Socialism cannot be stopped - only delayed.

  • President Trump may attend Russia's 'Victory Day' parade in Moscow, commemorating the end of WW2. Earlier today, Trump stated 'Zelensky is no longer needed at any negotiating table', and that 'Putin is not to blame for the war'. European defense ministers will hold a crisis meeting in the baltic states next week, to discuss Ukraine and prepare for the worst case scenario: A possible US exit from NATO.

  • This website exists for me solely as a vessel that carries this beautiful thread, so it's annoying that I have to click like two extra clicks to reach the news mega. Oh well.

Some news that I've found interesting in the last few days:

    • RSF are heading towards a decisive defeat in Sudan, which is very good if we listen to Sudanese people and their takes on things. The UAE have really taken many Ls recently with the RSF's imminent defeat, failure to save the Assad regime, failure of the Abraham Accords when it comes to reshaping Arab attitudes towards Israel, failure of their involvement in Yemen, and now the Americans and the Russians choosing Riyadh instead of Abu Dhabi for their negotiations. Anything bad for the UAE is mostly good for the world.
    • Nasrallah's funeral is on Sunday. I'm not ready at all. I'm at a point where I dread opening Facebook or TikTok, because every clip I see of him just breaks my heart. No death has ever affected me this much, not even my actual grandparents. To quote a beautiful Shia saying about Imam Hussein: There's a fire in the hearts of believers that can never be extinguished.
    • The direction of the new Syrian regime from a pure democratic perspective is very worrying. Seems like we're heading towards another cult of personality, with Ahmed Al Sharaa just taking Assad's place. I totally expect him to pull a classic Sisi move when election come around. "I don't want to run for elections, but the people's demands forced me to humbly seek nomination", then he'll win with like 90%. The Al Sharaa family already has the bourgeoisie origins that makes them capable of converting the country to their little playground like the Assads did. His grandpa was a feudal lord in Golan, his father was a famous author and activist, one of his brothers is a doctor and new health minister, his other brother runs Pepsi's Iraqi division and his wife is from a top bourgeoisie family from the Homs elite.
    • Russia have smashed the eastern flank of the Ukrainian-held territory in Kursk. They have also extended the Oskil bridgehead. Ukraine have completely lost the ability to sustain bigger counterattacks. Their counterattack near the village of Pischane on the Pokrovsk front has been defeated after just 2-3 days. This is why I believe that Trump's peace proposal will fail, the Russians have no incentive to compromise on anything when their negotiation position improves every single day.
    • The one way Trump's peace negotiations could succeed is if he simply gives Russia everything they want. Which is in the realm of conceivable. Think about the following hypothetical deal that's win/win for US and Russia:

Russia agrees to sign over the rights to their $300 billion in stolen reserves (this is baked into the cake already, Russia is simply never getting these back one way or the other) to the United States to "recoup" their "investment" into Ukraine

USA agrees to cut all weapons and money to Ukraine permanently, USA is out of the Ukraine business.

Ukraine agrees to be barred permanently from NATO and to scale down their military. They also agree to new elections. Zelenskyy is out.

The 5 annexed oblasts are recognized as Russian and handed over to Russia.

The major thing endangering this sort of win-win agreement for the US and Russia is EU and Ukrainian nationalist meddling. Desperate Slava Ukrainis could definitely do some sort of false flag terrorist operation in Europe to make peace impossible. EU is constantly trying to sabotage these arrangements and escalate themsleves, with Starmer even saying he'll put UK troops on the ground in Ukraine. Western press is sabotaging the talks as well, posting deceitful articles about Trump's positions to poison the well (the article from WaPo stating that Hegseth claimed there would be US troops on the ground as an option was entirely fabricated for example, he said no such thing).

There's the route that Trump has signaled he may go, trying to acquire the rights to Ukraine's minerals. The problem with that is that the American companies who are willing to go in and extract are demanding US army presence in Ukraine to protect them, which is a deal breaker for Putin and the Russians. Trump needs to drop this entire line of thinking as it will destroy the peace talks entirely if he keeps pursuing it. I feel like some neocons like Lindsay Graham planted this idea in his mind to purposefully make it impossible to come to a resolution with Russia.

I've spent like 90% of my time on the site in the news megathreads; everybody here is great. As long as there aren't major and rapidly developing events ongoing, it's in the top 1% of the sanest, most coherent, and comfortable places on the internet. And even when there is, everywhere else is a tsunami of misinformation and propaganda anyway, so it still rates pretty highly. Glad you get so much worth out of it as you're among our most powerful posters.

  • The statements of Israeli prisoner Alexander Turbanov, who was released

“Your kindness has been engraved on my conscience. During the 498 days that I lived among you, despite the aggression and crimes you were subjected to, I learned the meaning of true manhood, pure heroism and respect for humanity and values.

You were the free besieged, I was the prisoner and you were the protectors of my life. You took care of me like a caring father would take care of his children. You preserved my health, my honor and my grace and did not allow hunger or humiliation to touch me, even though I was in the clutches of men who fought for their land and usurped rights, and who committed the most heinous genocide against a besieged people by the government of my country.

I did not know the meaning of manhood until I saw it in your eyes and I did not realize the value of sacrifice until I lived among you, until I met death with a smile and resisted with my naked body the enemy who had the means to kill and destroy. No matter how eloquent and outspoken I am, I will not be able to find words to reflect your value and express my astonishment and admiration for your sublime morality.

Is this how your religion teaches you to behave towards prisoners? What a great religion this is, that elevates you to such a sublime level that all human rights laws and protocols for fighting enemies collapse in its presence! In the most difficult moments, you showed justice and mercy not with false slogans but with the realities we lived through, and you did not give up your principles even in the darkest conditions.

Believe me, if I ever return here, I will only return as a mujahid in your ranks. Because I learned the truth from your people and understood that you are not only the owners of the land, but also of principle and a just cause.”

  • An interview was just aired where milei explained what he did. He was interviewed by his biggest fan in the media and it was structured in such a way that he could not fuck up however the situation is so grave he did, numerous times even. He said:

    1. "This is like when you play the Russian Roulette and the bullet comes out."
    2. "I did not promote a scam, I only spread the word."
    3. "There weren't 44,000 scammed people, only 5,000. Most of them were bots and the chances of them being argentinians is very low."
    4. "It was just business between privates, the State had nothing to do with it."
    5. To the question of "Why did you promote the coin as soon as it was created?" he simply answered "Due to my fanatism for all things technological."
    6. "If you lose in a Casino, who are you going to blame?."

Also he argued that he did this to "help small scale business" in the country, but at the same time he also acknowledges it's all like a casino lmao.

We live in the stupidiest times. He's able to damage himself greatly. This is poetic justice.

The honeymoon phase is now over. The bullets are starting the penetrate the armor and it can't hold on for much longer. Their economic expectations were not met thus far, the situation remains critical despite the low inflation. Prices are high, wages are stagnant. Investments haven't arrived in the way they expected (despite absolutely destroying all control mechanisms the State has) and the IMF shows some reluctance to provide fresh loans.

While this singular event might not lead to his ultimate downfall it surely begins to crack the armor. Despite not scamming a lot of Argentinians, most of them were horrible cryptobros from the imperial core, it does send message: The President is a scammer who is facing an impeachment. For the would-be investors this could be a big no-no, and without investments there will be no fresh intake of US Dollars and with no fresh US Dollars you'll have to burn through your already-destroyed reserves and without reservers you might have to continue doing cuts or devaluate and the people can't really tolerate another devaluation...

From this point onwards, every time he fucks up he'll be under tremendous fire. And being under fire is not something they can really manage, given their... passionate responses to it. I do expect a purge in the near future and very erratic behavior as well.

All because he decided to promote a crypto scam, let that sink in lmao. It's ridiculous to just think about it.

    • "I did not promote a scam, I only spread the word."

      • "I did not steal a PlayStation 5, I only play games on it at home after obtaining it without payment"

How the hell does this Milei guy have such a high approval rating? Is Peronismo now that unpopular that clowns like Milei can be popular by comparison? Something needs to be studied, I think COVID and it's effects on the perception of time and long term damage has caused the world to somehow rate clowns as highly favoured leaders. Trump's admin just hit an all time polling high in terms of "Americans believing that the USA is heading in the right direction" amongst likely voters in the latest Rasmussen poll.

Trump approval hit 54%, net plus-10, and on Thursday, right direction tied the out all-time high at 46%. But here's what's crazy. Right direction exceeded wrong track by 1 point, which has never happened in our polling, ever.”

        What is happening lmao

    • Cine

    • Meh, nothing will happen.

Plus really, no humans were harmed in this scam so I couldn't care less

  • Three buses have exploded in Tel Aviv, with bombs being found inside them On the improvised bombs, which had a 24 hour timer, a text was written: 'Nasrallah, Hezbollah, Sinwar'. All buses and trains have stopped operating throughout Israel. At least three more bombs have been found, raising the total to 6, including at a train station in Petah Tikvah, Tel Aviv.

Netanyahu is holding an emergency session with the War Cabinet. The initial assessment is that the bombs were set to explode at 09:00, but prematurely exploded at 21:00 the night before. My initial thoughts: a false flag event to justify the collapse of the ceasefire or an Israeli annexation of the West Bank.

'All the explosive devices were supposed to explode during tomorrow's morning rush'. Israeli sources close to the Prime Minister's office claim that Netanyahu will order an 'unprecedented' military operation in the West Bank.

  • If germany abolishes debt brake over ukraine military spending, we can conclude ukrainians are more white than greeks or portuguese :calipers:

  • Ukraine's military will reportedly lose access to Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet service on March 1st. Pretty sure Ukraine relies on it heavily for communication on the battlefield.

Victory Day parade might go extremely hard this year.

  • Most of the lib cope in relation to the US-Russia negotiations is of a very predictable kind, but one type of especially unhinged and delusional cope that I've seen among a few online European libs involves some sort of modern Sino-Russian split and the false believe that China is interested in conquering land:

    • China should attack Russia and claim Siberian territory
    • Ukraine should hold talks with China, and together attack Russia
    • The EU should team up with China, and then as the EU invades from the West, China can have Siberia
    • China should step up and take the role of giving security guarantees to Eastern Europe and threaten Russia if they want to invade, because it worked well with Romania in 1968 (Someone literally said this...)

  • Jolani's/Sharra's socialist dad is roasting his jihadi son's capitalistic privatisation policies on Facebook. Another case of based dad and cuck son after Mayor Pete and Kamala

  • Al-Qassam Brigades have announced that they will release six Israeli prisoners tomorrow: Tal Shoham, Omer Shem-Tov, Eliya Cohen, Omer Wenkert, Avera Mengistu, and Hisham al-Sayed

Hamas has indicated these are the last surviving prisoners to be returned in the first phase of the ceasefire deal. Avera Mengistu has been held in Gaza since crossing into the territory in 2014, while Hisham al-Sayed has been held since 2015. The others were taken prisoner on October 7, 2023.

  • Not really a headline but the weekly segment with David Brooks on PBS News hour has been amusing since the election. Idk if he has had a come to God moment or what. He has almost turned into a Bernie bro soc dem. There has been more than one occasion where he has outflanked the lib pundit by just to turning to a really elementary material analysis.

  • The "memecoin" milei promoted went up in value again after milei retweeted a "tutorial on how to buy the coin" and then dropped immediately. No. It can't be him pulling the rug AGAIN.

We live in the funni timeline. I don't know much about this but holy shit what a shitshow.

    • endstage capitalism might be horrifying and cruel and results in the ongoing suffering of billions for no good reason - but, it is at least also a little hilarious watching the failsons take over the economic and state apparatus and not only not know how to use it, but actively try and rip it apart to sell the bolts and screws on craigslist

      • The gamblers and failsons don't realize that their fathers and grandfathers built this convoluted dumbass economic system just to protect their asses in the future. So now they're dismantling all these systems just to make a few bucks quickly, without really considering that they're dismantling the systems that fed them and gave them money to lose on their startup organic weed condom business. But in a way, they're just being perfectly capitalist by gambling away capitalism itself.

  • Leonard Peltier Released From 49 Years of Wrongful Incarceration:
    https://ndncollective.org/leonard-peltier-released-from-49-years-of-wrongful-incarceration/

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 18, 2025

Sumterville, FL – This morning, Leonard Peltier was released from over 49 years of wrongful incarceration. Mr. Peltier is an enrolled citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians and will reside on his tribal homelands in North Dakota.

Upon Peltier’s request, NDN Collective is bringing him home to the Turtle Mountain community. NDN Collective and partners built upon five decades of organizing and led the advocacy that secured Peltier’s release. Tomorrow, the organization is hosting a celebratory event and community feed to welcome Peltier back to his homelands.

“Today I am finally free! They may have imprisoned me but they never took my spirit!” said Leonard Peltier. “Thank you to all my supporters throughout the world who fought for my freedom. I am finally going home. I look forward to seeing my friends, my family, and my community. It’s a good day today.”

“Leonard Peltier is free! He never gave up fighting for his freedom so we never gave up fighting for him. Today our elder Leonard Peltier walks into the open arms of his people,” said Nick Tilsen, NDN Collective Founder and CEO. “Peltier’s liberation is invaluable in and of itself – yet just as his wrongful incarceration represented the oppression of Indigenous Peoples everywhere, his release today is a symbol of our collective power and inherent freedom.”

“This moment would not be happening without Secretary Deb Haaland and President Biden responding to the calls for Peltier’s release that have echoed through generations of grassroots organizing,” said Holly Cook Macarro, Government Affairs for NDN Collective. “Today is a testament to the many voices who fought tirelessly for Peltier’s freedom and justice.”

  • - BBC reporting on the press conference Zelensky is giving

"Zelensky says he is willing to give up presidency for peace or Nato membership" for his own skins sake, he should go lmao. sell that shit as the stabbed in the back line so you don't get strung up by Azov in 18 months. not much of a bargining chip though is it, you leaving is not gonna do shit to push the NATO chances

  • Die Linke up to 8,8% in the German election which is crazy. They were below the 5% minimum for ages and now they're back with a vengeance, despite Sahra Wagenknecht splitting off with her Patsoc buddies, who themselves are on the cusp of making it past 5%. Die Linke would've probably gotten >10% if it wasn't for BSW and their bullshit.

The Libertarians are also at exactly 5% rn so by tomorrow we'll know if they make it back into the Bundestag. Would be lit if they didn't.

  • Sorry that the megathread was late, I was getting up to date on everything that's been going on with the site.

I've switched all the links in the post body to use chapo.chat in the meantime (though the bulletins sites still has hexbear in it, not sure if that matters). If there's any mistakes I've made, let me know.

  • With most of the votes counted in germany I get to make people depressed.

Now you might look at this and think to yourself, hey Linke, the only actual remnant of anything even approaching left wing politics, did better that's great. But unfortunately it won't matter since they won't get into the governing coalition since they'd need to be something wild like Union/Green/Linke which likely won't happen. So which coalition is the most likely? Union and SPD, one thing that could also happen but is incredibly unlikely is Union and AfD.

Why is SPD going to do this again? Because they'll shift further right and because the second most prolific SPD guy, Pistorius aka the war minister aka Mr Warcrimes, has already said that they are in talks about forming a coalition, they really can only form a coalition with Union since something like a SPD/Greens/Linke will not get more seats unless something really shifts counting the last few votes.

So what are we going to see?

"I'm deeply concerned that too many foreigners are coming to germany."

"Which party do you trust the most having good Asylum and Refugeepolicies

Even more cruelty. Scholz already did his big 'Im grossen Stil aussachaffen' so SPD will gladly follow whatever cruel shit the CDU is going to do to anyone what isn't Aryan enough.

  • With the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel officially over as it is now February 18th in Lebanon, Israel is proceeding to withdraw from all of the southern Litani area in Lebanon and having the Lebanese army replace them there, with the exception of 5 key strategic points within the southern Litani area in Lebanon. These are mapped out below:

Israel plans to continue to occupy these points for the foreseeable future, and I don't see the Lebanese army pushing them out, the Lebanese president has said that he seeks a diplomatic solution to this. As for Hezbollah, they will announce their plans on February 23rd. I think they will stick to civil resistance and protests instead of military action, to try pressure the Lebanese government into coming up with some further agreement to get Israel to withdraw from these five points.

I'll do a post breaking down the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon tomorrow and how it played out, what conditions were within it, etc.
