Missed the game, but glad it looks like it was an easy win.

I have a good friend that I have ALMOST convinced to join Mastodon. He’s considering a username still, but I keep hounding him to make his account. Despite being politically / socially left, he’s generally not got the strong feelings I have toward the pros of a decentralized social media platform. I seemingly convinced him that simply it’s different / interesting you’ll see stuff you won’t generally see on mainstream social media, and you control what you see AND it’s not ever going to have ads or be corporate-run. But I still think he’s not necessarily sold on the idea. This is my very close friend. As for people I am more casually acquainted with? I don’t think I’ll ever get anyone else to join. As someone else in the comments said, essentially, “who cares? This isn’t for those people”, to which I largely agree. I think people need to come to the fediverse on their own accord or will forever feel like it’s just some aggro tech bro space. My aforementioned friend who I describe above for what it’s worth was adamant that Mastodon is “for right wingers”. I had to politely insist while I’m sure there are far right instances, these are not what I’ve experienced AND the official Mastodon site promotes instances that are antiracist and anti-bigotry.
Anyway, my biggest wish for the fediverse is that it grows as far as more artists, bands, news sources, etc. join. I still really like it as is, but it’ll only enhance things to have more variety of sources and voices onboard.

Thanks! Sorry for my bad info!

I was there and I hope this momentum continues! Another one in May (not sure the date).
Orangeface is the new Blackface

This made me literally laugh out loud. The fact that it’s somewhat low res and pixelated is all the better.

It’s very sad to imagine that this animal is no more on this earth. It was beautiful.

Essentially the video critiques the NYT’s somewhat infantilizing interactions with on the job workers, as Priya the host occasionally even suggests the jobs she’s watching them do are “fun”. She also compares a compost collector as a “king” as he’s in driving his garbage truck at 4:30am. The video also suggests that some of these NYT videos end up serving as advertisements for the companies being shown.

This is seriously just fucking sad. It’s hurting children. This orange fascist pig couldn’t be more cartoonishly evil.

My streak is now the year we're in

Hitting the day streak of the year we’re in feels worth sharing for me.
And yes, I’ve actually been learning with Duolingo, along with some other language apps, and speaking with people in the languages I’m learning, particularly Spanish.

This article was great! Thank you so much for writing it.

Personally I have no issue with it as long as the artist / performer doesn’t lie and say they write their own music.

Happy to share and glad you like it!

I think I agree with this. Mourinho is a cranky asshole, but he’s worked in many countries with players from all over the world and never had this issue before. The Turkish league is super corrupt from what I’ve read about it. Take it from me as someone who watches the Greek “Super” League- an arguably more corrupt league.

Jason Isbell is awesome!

It’s super easy to talk trash and criticize while offering zero solutions yourself. Bernie shifted the national discourse to the left and has a moral compass, whether or not you agree with him on all issues. He’s doing what he can to better the country. The left needs to coalesce and figure out real world ways to better it. I read lots of voices online in leftist spaces who talk disparagingly of Bernie and others, all while offering literally no solutions themselves. I’m sincerely hoping people on the left can unite for a positive and real world change. We need to go beyond “Bernie sucks” to tangible ways we can better this country and world. If you have a real idea, share it.

We’re in a country with very little organized labor compared to other countries in Europe or Latin America where strikes are common. Also cops here are highly militarized. Plus we are a massive country. Still, I think Americans need to consider a general strike and organize if need be. Is it easy? Obviously not. But I’ll happily take some optimism in these dark times.

No. The main rival of Panathinaikos is Olympiakos. The significance is really me promoting my new Panathinaikos community by sharing to the football/soccer communities here, and that Panathinaikos is making a comeback after a dismal start to this season and is in contention for the title.
