Holy shit this is the first peice of news out of alberta I've been happy to see in a hot minute.
Absolutely based
I have my full setup in github with details of all my various plugins I use here!
*Disinformation
Dis: intentional
Mis: Unintentional
Then I'll just assume they're bullshitting. Even San Francisco has a couple houses I found listed for 500k. And no, its not an apartment, it was a detached home.
What city
3 seconds of looking and I found five houses under 500k. Two of them genuinely look pretty decent too tbh, not even rough looking homes.

"When I eliminate all the homes that normal people would classify as a starter home, I can't find any starter homes!"
"Wait to buy a starter homes you are telling me I can't live in a rich gentrified white neighborhood, I might have a black guy for a neighbour? That just won't do!"
"Sorry anything not within 5 blocks of a Starbucks can't possibly count as a starter home"
This is what people sound like when they talk about "safety" and "crime rates" and "starter homes" in the same sentence.
(X) Doubt
It literally sounds super fake.
I can't find a single major city without 200k to 350k homes lol
It takes like 30 seconds to check what starter homes cost in any city, yet people will believe this shit instead of just go look.
Edit: this is the "source" https://www.zillow.com/research/million-dollar-start-home-2025-35100/
Just 1 chart with literally zero further info, no published actual data of where these numbers came from, how they calculated them, how they gathered the data.
Why do people fall for empty garbage articles like this so easy. I wish we collectively called this out more.
If a person posts an article citing another article, instead of just the original article, they should get fuckin blasted for it and downvoted to hell.
Post. Original. Sources.
Once I got so used to all my custom keybinds in neovim, it became hard to use anything else.
I'm used to tools like Harpoon for fast jumping around "bookmarked" spots in my code, once i started using the same technique for my writing it's like something clicked for me, I was like "holy shit I can arbitrarily jump to spots so fast now..."
I use neovim a lot for coding.
Over time though I discovered it had tonnes of amazing features as a prose editor too, so many powerful plugins for editing prose that blew me away.
Stuff like "warn me if I use tthe same word too much" and whatnot.
And of course telescopes fuzzy find made jumping around to edit my text way faster, and being able to bulk change stuff with a simple :%s/.../.../g
feels real good.
I highly recommend folks try out nvim for this use case :3
Aside from the game community, where developers tend to be a bit more public, you might have some issue simply from the fact most developers are kind of reserved with posting who they actually are.
I wouldn't be surprised if tonnes of software you use has trans folk in the dev pipeline maintaining it, but you'd never know cuz their github pfp is just a picture of an anime waifu with a link to their contact info and thats about it.
Considering how many lgbtq+ folks tend to post on dev focused discord channels (the main c# channel literally has a perma rainbow on it), and on their discord profile they will be more open about who they are, it stands to reason tonnes of projects probably have lgbtq+ folks involved.
Like I'm pretty sure if I open the chat history of any of my mainstream dev discords right now and flip through the m9st recent 20 posters in the main chats, I'd find someone openly trans in their profile within 30 secs lol
I've never seen any sort of aggregate repo of "Here's projects you can support!" Anywhere though.
On one hand, that sounds like a cool idea in a perfect world.
On the other, a part of me worries about how much certain people could abuse that and weaponize it though :c
Like I could, unfortunately, 100% see a threat actor leverage it as "Here's a whole target list of projects/maintainers to try and harass/doxx, script kiddies!"
Which sucks.
The 1 seat they got was in the green party stronghold (co leaders home town)
I have zero clue what her platform is, prolly environmentalist tho.
If any vote ever fails in our government, it triggers an instant re-election. It's called the Vote of Non Confidence
It's probably one of the most key parts of why our government is a little bit more resistant to clown-showing, because even a small crack in the parliament triggers a new election.
So bills can only be tabled if the gov is 100% confident it will have the votes.
Which means the conservatives could table a bill if they knew the NDP + Bloc would side with them on it, as then they have the votes to pass it.
But since it's the NDP, a very progressive party, it means they actually hold that fine balance of mediating power between liberals and conservatives.
It's pretty solid actually, and makes it so everyone the entire term could pass a reasonable bill.
Pretty sure this last term the conservatives and liberals did agree on some stuff and some bills passed with both approving it, iirc.
I think forcing them to occasionally work together like that helps temper the fascism lol.
Sorry. Naive and easily fooled by propaganda and disinformation that feeds into their bigotry
My bad ❤️
Bloc have endorsed the liberals already, Quebec is extremely anti trump.
Bloc aligning with conservatives would be political suicide lol.
Atm we got it, this is the magic sweet spot where we want to be

172 seats exactly with lib+ndp+green
and conservatives can't even threaten a vote of non confidence with bloc's help. (1 vote short)
But they could trigger it with that 1 green seat's help, which means liberals have to stay on the good side of that 1 green seat XD
Not appropriate enough.
Unironically over 30% of people somehow still voted conservative.
I'm ashamed to admit a very large amount of them are from my area.
I don't know what is wrong with some people. The education system has clearly desperately failed many of the people here though.
The big key is gonna be if we get that sweet 172 seats with Lib+Green+NDP, we are only 1 seat short
If we hit that mark it means, hilariously, the one single green seat is needed to form a majority government without bloc's help needed
Which will force liberal party to play ball with NDP and Green Party's more progressive policies.
That's our ideal scenario, conservatives are told to go kick rocks, and green/ndp get an actual voice on decision making to push the country in a progressive direction.
One. More. Seat!
Afaik all LLMs have very derp recurrance, as that's what provides their context window size.
The more recurrant params they have, the more context window they can store.

Any Poly folks here that are forever Monagomous?
So, my fiance and I have for quite awhile come to terms with us being poly, primarily myself but she is cool with it.
Thing is, we've been together for 13 years now, are getting married soon, and while we have agreed that if we ever met someone we clicked with, we also have come to terms with the fact it feels like that won't actually ever happen.
We're both very introverted and keep to ourselves. We aren't actually party goers, and the wildest nights we have are the extremely rare night where we host a board game night with like, maybe 4 friends. And that's a "rager" for us, comparatively.
We've looked into some dating apps but the results are... abysmal. Non starter really.
And since we are both so far along in our life together, it feels more and more like it would be impossible to "Fairly" include another person anyways. They'd forever be "second" in that me and my fiance have thirteen (and counting) years of history, whereas the new person would be starting completely fresh. T

Self Hosted Database ERD Manager?
Im looking for some form of self hosted application, ideally dockerized(able), that can connect to and manage an existing database (Im not picky on the DB type, Postgres prolly best though).
However Id like if it manages it via a nice well designed ERD. The closest I have found so far is PgAdmin but unfortunately it's ERD leaves a lot to be desired. It's kinda clunky, and it cant "diff" against your existing database to produce a migration script, all it can do is produce a script that expects you to totally drop the existing DB and re-apply the schema from scratch.
Something like Luna/Moon would be cool, but every example I look up seems to be an application you install locally on your machine and interact with directly, as opposed to a web interface.
If you know of such a tool let me know!

I feel like I am crazy, where is the login?
I just downloaded the app, its loading posts just fine from lemmy.world, but where on earth do I login?
Clicking on Profile and Submit just tell me they wont work unless I am logged in. Ideally these two CTAs should instead redirect to login if you are not logged in.
I am looking all over this interface and I am either totally blind or completely unable to find the login option, is it buried somewhere or am I crazy?
Edit: Nevermind found it, top of the burger menu, I think maybe the UX of that button could be made a bit more visual, it at first glance with the icon looked like just a title.
Perhaps add a big green + symbol on it so it pops more for adding your account? The dull blue and lemmy icon aren't what I normally would associate typically with a login button, so it totally didn't pop out at me. Legit took me a solid 5+ minutes to notice it D:

What is the planned solution for cross-host link sharing?
Right now there seems to be a bit of an issue where if I want to share a link to a lemmy post with a friend, but if we call different servers our "home", even though both of our "homes" have a roughly similar copy of the same post, there currently is no easy way that I perceive for us to navigate to "our" copy of that post.
This becomes further of an issue when it comes to search engine parsing. For example I use lemmy.world as my "home" server, however when I find information on google it may link to the fedia.io or whatever "sources" link.
For reading this is no big deal.
But if I want to respond to the post, I now need to somehow figure out a way to re-route to the lemmy.world copy of that post to make my submission with my user account.
I think ideally what we need to consider is perhaps one of the following:
A: a browser plugin that can automatically detect and redirect to the matching version of the post for your server
B: OAuth support, so I can OAuth login to any lemmy
