  • Oh yeah you're right, I'm a numpty. I was looking under "tools", where it used to be. TIL, thanks!

  • Possibly, but no country has ever done it this way, possibly because it would make elections really expensive and discourage a change of government.

  • For real, though not all AI is bad. This isn't generative AI, it's just a neural network model running locally on my device, but I do wish they also offered a pencil feature.

Edit: there was a pencil feature, I'm a numpty

  • I... don't see how a slap on the wrist for people who don't vote would "obstruct" voting.

It could also be $25 off your tax burden, but it's less immediate and probably less effective.

Btw it's a thing in many other countries: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compulsory_voting

The Wikipedia page also has excellent arguments for and against the practice.

  • Hey, I remember you! You're the guy who seemingly spends all their free time telling all of Lemmy about how proud they are of not doing their civic duty.

Democracy only works if people vote, you're actively undermining democracy.

Just vote. It's free. Save $25.

  • It technically is, I used my phone's "magic eraser" feature to cover their plate.

Google Photos doesn't offer a pencil to cover up elements, only the magic eraser.

  • I'm that person unfortunately, and as much as it sucks, it's beyond me. I have no idea what it's like to take part in a theoretical world.

I also have aphantasia and can't get into novels because I don't see the story unfold in my head, they show up as bullet points in my head. I can't picture a strawberry, but I can describe one.

I mostly consume documentaries, though I did enjoy Bojack Horseman but likely more because of the complex psychology they gave the characters than because the characters are anthropomorphic animals.

I let people have their fun though, because others seem to enjoy the mystical worlds of fantasy.

  • Yes precisely, and merchants increase their prices to account for those unknown processing fees since it varies wildly from card to card.

If you carry a balance, you will pay interest, hence reducing the value of your rewards.

  • Those benefits are usually your own money + the money of those who fail to make payments since merchants have to increase their prices to compensate for credit card fees.

They indirectly steal from you, launder the funds and present it back to you as a "benefit", but only if you've been a good boy.

This is a similar principle to modern loyalty programs. In exchange for your personal information and your eyes (advertising), you get to pay slightly above the regular price and accumulate ✨points✨ while other schmos get a jacked up price that pays for your points (or the value of your points is built into the price of the items you purchase).

  • This legit looks so much better than the other AI slop, despite the lack of pixels.

  • Correct, this is what I meant, political parties putting out their own advertising.

  • Absolutely, I miss visiting the US.

  • Might be worth a try! It's a bit pricey, but I'll suggest it to her. Thanks!

  • My partner tried a diva cup, and it's unfortunately not for her.

    Canadian-made tampons?

I can find canadian-made pads, but not tampons, and much less canadian-owned tampon manufacturers.

Does anyone know of such a manufacturer that sells in Quebec? Ideally something high quality with a nice applicator.

Trying to connect to Lemmy.ca from Mexico, since about yesterday, I'm getting a connection refused. I have to VPN to Canada to use the site.

    Is this normal behaviour?

1Password and Tailscale are Canadian companies!

That's all. I really love 1Password though, I don't think I've ever had any issues with them and their Linux support is excellent.

I learned that Tailscale is Canadian after learning that CloudFlare indiscriminately routes your server traffic through the US, including CloudFlare Tunnel traffic.

This happens constantly. I had tape on it for a while, but even that failed.

Picture above is dramatization without the tape for clarity's sake, today it poked through the tape and shut itself off, this is how I actually found it:

Racism is a ‘cancer eating away’ at Montreal police, officer says in resignation letter

    cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ca/post/29913249

Earlier this month, a Quebec Superior Court judge ruled in a class-action lawsuit that racial profiling is a systemic problem in the Montreal police force, and that the city is responsible for profiling committed by its police officers. Justice Dominique Poulin ordered the City of Montreal to pay $5,000 to people arrested without justification and racially profiled.

The force has also released two reports since 2019 showing that racialized people are disproportionately targeted by police during random street checks.

No before shot as it's been a while since I bought this, but the previous item was in the same can, filled almost to the top, and 500g.
