  • Quite like this option since it's small, there seem to be many on eBay too. Would the chipset matter particularly? Most of the units for sale are Celeron J4105 but I see a few pentium ones as well

    Hardware recommendations

Please forgive the annoying asking for info post

I have 100Gb of stuff on Google drive and I want to move it in house, I guess via Nextcloud? At the same time I want to try things like self hosting Notesnook and a few other things like ad blocking the home network etc

I was going to try starting with a raspberry pi 5 with 8Gb of ram and an SSD and some form of Linux obvs but in my limited reading I've seen that's very not recommended for Nextcloud.

Key things are low power usage/quiet, I'm not THAT fussed about download speed to other devices but keen to avoid as much lock in as possible. Budget around £200-300 to start with.

I've seen recommendations for thin clients, kinda like the idea of a NUC but they're pricy for the form factor. Having it be small would be a plus but I do have an old windows 8 machine from 2013 in the cupboard in an ATX case but the power supply draw feels like it would be excessive

Hints appreciated or tell me which community to go check, thanks in advance

  • Mm. Yeah it's not without it's problems and I agree there is a big performative element BUT I do kind of feel it is doing its job a bit.

It's already realistically too late for the current drivers to get on the f1 ladder (if that's their goal). Abby Pulling is the same age or older than a quarter of the current f1 grid.

However, surely the job of W Series and F1 Academy (which is worse and watered down than W Series already was) is to provide more exposure and grow the numbers of girls taking up karting etc.

To succeed in top flight racing you need speed but that is not enough, you need support in the form of driving development, management and obviously significant financial backing. It will take years but I'd argue any step is a step forwards at this stage.

Look at what's happening with women's basketball and football now, it's exploding. But you need much more money and time for racing compared to those sports.

Anyway I'm interested to see how pulling does in GB3 this year, planning to go a race!

  • Site seems down at the moment... I've never played either game but I do love some of the source material.. Macross Plus a particular favourite, and Evangelion of course.. Is that what these games are about?

  • Whole thing was a manufactured non story by part time journalists

Asking drivers leading questions about whether they'd be in to old spec engines and then cranking out some columns on it

The state of motorsports journalism these days is an absolute joke tbh. 3 paragraphs of nothing per article

  • Not really but it has the same performative feel as Lovecraft investigations. Weirdly, although I listen to podcasts all the time, I find these narrative audio play things really hard to listen to

Or is this not possible on Lemmy generally?

    Jail terms and a repeat

The jail sentences handed out today seem completely insane to me, not least considering the overcrowding of jails that's been reported. Even if they had tons of space it seems like madness.

I can well understand people's reservations about JSO's general tactics but at the same time, what alternative is offered by their detractors?

Personally I don't feel as though Labour or the Democrats stateside are doing, or planning on doing, anything close to enough to tackle our impact on the climate.

    What do you think?

The cycleway from Greenwich to London Bridge is now fully open!

I just found this out today by cycling it. You can now shoot straight through the section at Surrey Quays/Southwark Park making this route extremely quick and largely safe.

I don't like the crossover at Surrey Quays station OR that weird side road dip just before the McDonalds but all things considered this is a great route.

Apologies if this is off topic, I CBA to make London cycling

Who is up for talking about Haunted City?

There is no glass cannon on Lemmy yet I don't think

I wasn't ready for Haunted City to start back up again but I'm so happy it has. The cast have lost nothing in the break and I really want to see Josephine and Ross' film!
