  • Some material bits here - the US can't run out of dollars so they can repay all of this debt, since it's denominated in US dollars. The foreign countries can't force the US to give them dollars in place of the bonds they hold, as far as I'm aware, since those bonds have predefined maturity dates. The US only has to pay their value in dollars as they come due. Which they can always pay. So bankruptcy from foreign debt isn't on the cards. What foreign countries could do is not buy new US debt with the dollars the US pays them as bonds mature. That would leave the above mentioned dollars in international circulation and therefore devalue the dollar. And that would have implications on what the US can buy from other countries. Arguably this is the intended goal of Bessent and Miran. Although they were hoping to achieve it by getting other countries to appreciate their currencies against the dollar via Bretton Woods-style agreements.

  • This has always been the case and intellectual labor isn't special other than the training lacking in some parts of the world. The owner class has always worked to lower the standard of living in the US with only organized labor preventing or slowing it down. Perhaps a secondary factor standing in the way of this process used to be the restriction on movement of capital prior to free trade taking over the world. That meant the owner class would face the contradictory effect of suppressing labor costs - decreasing demand for the goods they sell and profit from. Now that owner capital has moved around the world however, they can utilize the aggregate demand of many countries to keep themselves rich, even if there are fewer people in each country that can afford their products. I think in effect this frees them to depress wages in the wealthiest countries in the absence of strong organized labor.

  • Some polls show a very close race, so this election might be much closer than suggested a week or two ago. Get out and vote!

  • Why nearly? If you get there you may as well vote. 😂

  • Once the knobs are gone, it's gonna roll faster ⏩⏩

  • The auditor general's report also notes, however, that a senior adviser at IO had financial concerns about the company — namely that it had low liquidity, and prior to the end of 2019, the group's equity value "appeared low," at less than a million Euros.

Jesus fucking Christ, we got scammed by some con artists. By saying this I don't mean there wasn't involvement from the Ford government in the scheme.

  • I bet that the same fucking propaganda playbook that's used by the right in the US with Fox and Co is what's behind this.

  • For context China's power generation capacity in 2023 was 2.92TW. 0.25TW is about 8% of that capacity which is quite a lot.

  • I think you missed attaching a pic.

  • Unlearning Economics is this you?

  • The reactor is reportedly designed to sustainably generate 2 megawatts of thermal power.

Anyone know how the power density compares to a conventional uranium PWR? In other words, are these machines substantially smaller or larger than a PWR for the same output?

  • It's got no legal standing, but as many things in life, when you want to advocate for something and you want to say that something is important to people, the arguments are a lot easier to make when you have "evidence." A bunch of signatures can serve this purpose. Could be something they could use in a legal argument. This petition could even be just a first step, to be followed by others methods or actions.

Another function it could serve is getting people engaged and aware of the issue, spreading further awareness.

Another function is getting the contact information of people willing to do something about this issue. They could later leverage that to ask for other actions that are more meaningful.

  • That's not necessarily the point. Organizing political action has many components and if the IA want these signatures, perhaps they need them. This is not necessarily the same as a random person making a random petition on change.org.

  • It's interesting how nodes in the periphery disappear and instead we get more nodes from downtown. That's because there's just so many nodes there, they push out peripheral nodes out of the limited device node db. Many expected to see a lot more nodes in the periphery.

  • Seems to work so far. Hops have dropped significantly and more people are getting messages in LongFast. I'm getting more complete conversation with few to no missing messages.

  • Capitalism very much has large internal problems that require unending relentless work to keep from undermining it. So it's very much a problem itself. Then the problems you highlight add to the challenge. 😂

  • To add to this, as result of these differences, Carney might be able to extend the shelf life of the established capitalist system. PP on the other hand is going to accelerate its decline towards more inequality, poverty and instability. So from the perspective of preserving the system itself, Carney is the guy.

CN Tower repeater expected to go live today

I have a unique opportunity to add a node at the Tower LNB ring. However I'm struggling to source a Meshtastic gateway that meets the requirements I'v been given. Any help would be appreciated.

    1. Power will be provided over 48v POE ONLY
    2. Remote management is a must, consider both internet provided over ethernet and 4G/LTE as backup (fw updates)
    3. Maximum 5db gain antenna can be used positioned on the LNB ring facing N-NW, must not exceed 1400mm in length
    4. Must be tuned for exactly 915mhz (l'm thinking cavity filter) to help with Rx.
    5. Enclosure and antenna must be pole mounted
    6. Absolutely no wifi 2.4 or 5ghz
    7. 500CND budget I'd like a set it and forget it approach. ls it even worth it?

She said her lecture was going to discuss humanitarian aid in a time of crises as well as the challenges aid workers have faced in Gaza and other war zones.

“[I was told] that discussing the USAID cuts could be perceived as an anti-governmental narrative,” Liu told Global in an interview on Friday. She added that NYU, her alma mater, also said her lecture risked being perceived as antisemitic.

    Channels other than LongFast?

I just started using this so I know very little.

From what I gather, there's a default channel called "LongFast" which every device has from the start. I can see some messages in "LongFast" where I am.

I can see I can create another channel and share it via link, QR, etc.

Do people make such channels and share them publicly, for say local or topical chat groups? E.g. "Canada", or "Meshtastic Support", "BurningTesla", or "Cats"? Is this a thing? Can it be a things?

When I check local groups info, I see links to online comms like Telegram (ew), Discord, Matrix, etc. I don't see Meshtastic channel links.
