  • I used to work for a health insurance company in the appeals dept. I would find obvious payment errors and route the appeal off to another dept. for correction; and it would just sit there. Eventually, my boss started putting pressure on me to close out the appeal even though the error hadn't been fixed because the open appeals were making our numbers look bad. I didn't do this, so one day I was just reassigned. The appeals processing assignment was handed off to one of my coworkers who had no problem just closing them out whether they had been resolved or not.

Went to my local sandwich shop tonight. Guy at the counter was super baked...

I repeated my order twice and still didn't get what I asked for. Once I got home and took a bite, I realized dude had made me one of the best turkey subs I had ever tasted! It's like he knew to give me the sandwich I needed, not the one I thought I deserved. I should have never doubted him.

How Good at Math Does a Programmer Need to Be?

I'm working my way to a CS degree and am currently slogging my way through an 8-week Trig course. I barely passed College Algebra and have another Algebra and two Calculus classes ahead of me.

How much of this will I need in a programming job? And, more importantly, if I suck at Math, should I just find another career path?

I spent ~$35 on new cables and my LAN speed increased 6x

After seeing that my wireless speeds were much faster than the speeds I was getting over Ethernet, I decided to invest in some new cables. I didn't know it before, but I saw while I was changing them out that my current cables were Cat 5e. While putting my network together, I had just been grabbing whatever cables I could find in my scrap drawers. Now I have Cat 8 cables and my speeds jumped from 7MB/s to an average of over 40MB/s. It's a much bigger improvement than I expected, especially for such a small investment.
