  • Thanks you for recommending, this looks interesting!

  • Exactly. Right now developers get good deals when adding their games to game pass and the game pass is pretty cheap, but after game passes become "the thing" and developers have to be in a game pass, it will get worse for developers and consumers.

  • Thanks! I will check them out!

  • Thank you, I forgot about that. Yeah that could be good starting point!

  • Doing moderation is something that I would not want to do at the start. At least in the start all items would be created by me. This would be a side project for me and all user submissions would be verified (if ever allowed). This would be more like personal list rather than huge community project. Maybe if this evolved overtime then it could be something else.

Yeah, wiki might be simplest solution for this, but I was wondering if there existed something more visually friendly. IMO wiki (similar to https://consumerrights.wiki/Main_Page) is less "pretty" to AlternativeTo. But using wiki could probably be starting point for this.

  • Thanks for recommendation. I am technical, but more on backend side rather than front end. I would love to use something that is opensource. This would probably work, but seems like I would need the create a lot of things "from scratch". This would be a side project so I am looking something that would be simple as possible.

  • Yeah, end goal would probably create something like this.

  • Yeah, pretty much this.

  • Never hear about this and sad that it got cancelled.

  • I mean they already list alternatives to their site: https://alternativeto.net/software/alternativeto/ :D

  • Maybe in the future, but my goal for this site is to just list brands and not individual products.

  • Thanks for sharing! This has same idea that I am have plans! IMO this shows that wiki is bit less user friendly compared to what AlternativeTo has.

    Creating similar service to AlternativeTo

I am looking to create similar tool to AlternativeTo. This would list different brands and why you should or should not buy them. Is there some software that would be great starting point for creating this kind of service?

I would guess wiki apps would work for this, but like wikijs, but interested to hear is the something else that could be used for this.

  • If you don't have that much programming experience I would start with basic game dev tutorial for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulgh_neTJG8&list=PL6SABXRSlpH8CD71L7zye311cp9R4JazJ

After going over the tutorial I would continue either by starting your own project or cloning some existing game.

Edit: And game jams. Game jams are best way to force you to create something and finish it. This would be ideally after completing some tutorial that gives you understanding of how to create games with engine.

Here is another cozy co-op game recommendation

store.steampowered.com Save 35% on Squirreled Away on Steam

Live your best squirrel life. Explore, gather, craft, and build incredible treehouses in acres of beautiful parkland. Scurry across lawns, up trees, and leap limb to limb solo, or up to four friends can play together in co-op. Endless summer days of adventure await.

Save 35% on Squirreled Away on Steam

If you are looking for cute and simple co-op game check out Squirreled Away. It is cute open world adventure game. Fun and chill game to play as co-op. The game is pretty simple and short, but is perfect for the gameplay experience it tries to achieve. It was fun alternative for competitive games that I usually play.

  • Feedback: Reached Day 3, Cute art style, start game Yes/No really small barely noticed it at first, simple gameplay and was pretty intuitive to play, not sure if bug some times stickman got stuck to the start when in "exploring". After some time they moved forward, but didn't seem to attack enemies.

Does anyone else use this way of taking notes?

My go to way of taking notes is sending messages to myself. Previously with Signal's "Note to self" and now with my own channel with Element. It is fast way of taking notes, but horrible in long run since you cannot group notes or add tags or anything else that you would expect from good note taking tool. I have Nextcloud notes, but I still do it since I am used to it and it is fast way of syncing notes with mobile and PC. Anyone else has interesting ways of keeping notes?

Cocomelon is designed to be addictive

I though that Cocomelon videos are just dumb videos to keep children distracted, but I didn't know that they are purposefully designed to keep children hooked. What's your stance on their videos?

  • I guess the scope was too ambitious. Economy is not doing that well so AAA studios don't like to take any risks. Both this and Blizzard's survival game was cancelled. It is sad that so many developer hours are wasted on these projects and we get nothing out of it. It would be amazing if these games would get released as open source for someone else to finish it.

I want to selfhost cloud drive and looking for what would be the best option. I originally used Nextcloud, but it has a lot of features not related to file hosting so I would be interested in something simpler. I found out about Cozy Cloud (https://cozy.io) but there is really little info about that. Has anyone used that and how does it compare to Nextcloud?
