I'm quite fond of communism, personally.

  • There's little meaningful difference between the blue team and the red team in American politics. They're both neoliberal ghouls. Communists are correct in opposing them both.

  • I heard that the poison ivy chemical is greasy like engine oil and that you similarly have to use degreasing soap to remove it, rather than normal hand or dish soap. Those scrubby napkins that mechanics use should work to clean it off. Not that it's any help now.

  • People who say that war footage can change the hearts of zionists neglect to account for their extraordinary ability to invent reality. There truly is no cognitive dissonance too great for them to pave over.

  • The answer to the contradiction between socialized production and individual property isn’t to reprivatize production, but to socialize property.

Yet another red sails banger. 🔥🔥🔥

  • "Trump betrayed us"

You deserved it fuckin imbecile, hope they shit on you! :i-cant:

"Oh but black people!!!" You're not even a citizen hahahah

  • Would you approve of AI if companies bought licenses from the artists in their training data? Is this the underlying issue for you, that capitalists aren't playing by their own rules? This is a reasonable grievance but it's hardly communist.

Regarding labor, don't you want people to work less? Yes the machine takes less manpower than a human. That's potentially liberatory. Of course under bourgeois rule, this technology is used to suppress the wages of artists. But that's true for everything, which is why the problem is capitalism itself and why we shouldn't cede control of this new technology to capitalists.

Also I don't mean to put words in your mouth. I asked those questions to get you to think about how the anti-plagiarism laws you want for AI would manifest in real life. And I said that you're an advocate for expanding intellectual property because you're implying that artists should have more protections against having their work copied. When an artist's work cannot be copied without the right granted to you, then they hold the copyright, a form of IP. This is shortsighted because those who are most able to defend their IPs and who have the most IPs to defend are not solo artists, but corporations. Broaden copyright laws and you're directly giving power to Disney and the like.

P.S. chill out, damn. You're being snarky as hell when both me are memorable have been formal with you. I'm not trying to dunk on you and this isn't reddit.

  • It for sure seems like this topic sucks the theory out of comrades and turns them into mini Mickey mice, ready to kill to protect the sanctity of their IP. It's either that or they'll suddenly embrace idealism because pictures are only meaningful when they're metaphysically imbued with human spirit or whatever.

In real life, this doesn't bother me because I'm surrounded by libs. But it is aggravating how common reaction is on here and hexbear. I don't understand how avid pirates can be so attached to intellectual property laws.

  • Copyright is one of the 4 types of intellectual property. Your misguided defense of the individual author strengthens publishing companies instead, since they own the means of production to copy and have the lawyers to litigate such violations.

Also you misunderstand how the technology works. Generative AI does not function by copying the data it was trained on, but by using the trends it noticed in that data to piece together something original. Examine the code of whichever LLM and you will never find any books, pictures, or movies stored within. It's a sophisticated network of associations and dissociations.

Now you might then argue that these generalized statistics also constitute plagiarism, but consider what that entails. If mimicry is criminal, should it then be illegal for artists to imitate another's style? Should musicians be able to patent chord progressions and leitmotifs? Should genres be property?

Your stance against AI is boxed within the existing bourgeois framework of creative ownership which I hope you agree is awful. I understand the precarity that this tech creates for artists but expanding IP will empower, not weaken, the companies that exploit them.

  • For what it's worth I'm with you on this one. There's a lot of robot-bashing on the left when fundamentally the complaints are about the commodification of art, not about the tools used to make it. It's frankly unmarxist to stand against AI, at least generally. I really hope no one here will die on the hill that "intellectual property" is real.

  • What's up with white people saying "I didn't have [thing] on my bingo card"? It's like an animal crossing catchphrase with them, I swear. I heard two distinct people say it today alone. So freaky.

  • It's not a strategy game and it's not communist either, but if you like story then you gotta play Ghost Trick! It was originally released on DS but it got a remake for PC/xbox/switch/ps4 a while back that's good too.

It's a puzzle game where you play as a recently-departed spirit that's trying to solve their own murder. You accomplish this by possessing and manipulating nearby objects to change the course of events leading up to your death. Every level is like a Rube Goldberg machine and everything is animated beautifully. It has the most gripping plot I've ever seen in a video game and I binged the entire thing from beginning to end when I first played it. It's the game version of a page-turner. It's an A-presser.

  • Stranger: "¿Dónde está la biblioteca?"

    Him: 🔫 💥POW 💥POW 💥POW 💥POW 💥POW 💥POW reload 💥POW 💥POW 💥POW 💥POW 💥POW 💥POW

  • Yeah, in other words royals aren't distinct from capitalists anymore so Burger King isn't an oxymoron unless you're using centuries-old definitions.I think we're on the same page here really. Anyway this is kinda a lot of arguing over something simple, my bad. Have a nice gaming day if you celebrate.

  • Britain and Spain and Norway and the rest seem to be running their monarchies just fine tho. I think it's been a long time since royal dynasties and capitalists were separate groups of people.

  • "Rich" and "Noble" aren't really opposite words though?

  • Let's all start a massive map on Advance Wars by Web and then fail to finish it after one player forgets to take their turn after two months (I'm the forgetful player)

  • Iirc you can stop paying taxes but literally only if you give up your US citizenship entirely. But to do that, you have to book an in-person appointment with feds where you convince them to give you permission. And I'm pretty sure there are no laws or procedures they have to follow; it's just vibes-based whether or not they let you go.

  • "Expat" lol

Did you renounce your citizenship or are you gonna file your US taxes every year for the rest of your life?

  • I think that this machine learning stuff is just revealing the role of illustrators/writers/musicians in our society: slop factories. They're here to churn out the latest cash-grab sequel movies and generic Billboard hot 100 songs. Whatever you define "art" as, it's probably not what these industries are pumping out even with human talent.

But that's not the fault of the code because it's been like this since forever. Besides, shouldn't it come as a relief that this uninspired, unfulfilling work is becoming automated? The amount of support I'm seeing online about these infamously soul-crushing jobs is a little weird. I mean, I know unemployment is worse but people are getting all RETVRNy about grinding at their poorly paid creative jobs. Surely we can imagine a future better than wage slaving for suits, right? Beyond the commodification of all human expression? Maybe not.

  • At some Japanese restaurants, there are raised floors with tatami mats and you're supposed to take your shoes off before stepping on them. It seems like the Americans from this comic haven't done that though. Here's a screenshot from Yokai Watch lol

Final Fantasy 15's incredible Spanish localization

I noticed that the Spanish versions of FFXV make several creative decisions that set them apart from English. But I couldn't find mention about this anywhere so I've spent some time compiling a bunch of noteworthy changes to share. Espero que les interese!

    El don Lux

The most prominent change in the Spanish versions is that Noctis's hereditary powers are in Latin. It's called "the gift of Lux" and every teleportation-related ability has that title. I checked, and this is unique to the Spanish versions of the game. Not even the original Japanese does this even though the main characters's names are Latin in every language. It's a truly inspired choice that's canon as far as I'm concerned - it adds to the light vs. dark themes, it sounds much cooler, and it's literally Noct's family name (Noctis Lucis Caelum).

Every gift of Lux and its lame English equivalent:

    Does anyone else never dream?

I don't dream. No nightmares either. I have no problems sleeping and I'm not on drugs so it isn't a health thing - I've been like this all my life.

The only times I've managed to dream are when I nap while already well-rested, but even then I still usually don't. Like I might get 1 or 2 dreams a year in total from when I go back to sleep immediately after waking up, but never from normal sleep.

    Anyone else like this?

The Minneapolis Police: A Criminal Organization

The Department of Justice recently released their report on the Minneapolis Police Department (the one that murdered George Floyd) and this video goes over their findings.

It's cartoonish how brutally excessive their use of force is and how little these cops are held to account, even now. Some examples are:

    • Pursuing a woman for jaywalking then grabbing her arms behind her back and slamming her face into the curb while stating, "You play stupid games, you get stupid prizes."
    • Putting a man who was calmly walking in a park in a neck restraint and pinning him to the floor for 13 minutes (later needing intubation).
    • Shoving a peaceful protestor to the ground and causing traumatic brain injury, only to later claim that it was a "slight push" and that the protestor "walked towards [him] with her right hand up and clinched." A fellow officer corroborated this version of events despite contradictory body cam footage.

No consequences have been enacted against the MPD yet, only proposed.

Reframing geopolitics from a Marxist perspective

A banger conversation where Radhika Desai challenges common narratives regarding world development communistly. She made a lot of interesting arguments and I took some notes that I'm gonna share here:

    • imperialism is when nationstates manage capitalism's contradictions at the expense of subordinate territories
    • once capitalism develops in one country, other countries are forced to either become subordinate (buy their excess commodities, surrender resources) or develop themselves (protectionist, state-directed industrialization)
    • maintaining unevenness is imperialism, resisting this underdevelopment is anti-imperialism
    • global development is not the spread of markets, not the rule of successive hegemonies, but the spread of multipolarity
    • golden age of capitalism was after WWII and was actually ruined by capitalism, not caused by it
      • it came about from socialist policies that wringed monopolies: regulations, full employment, welfare, universal education, healthcare, price c

A discussion on the current and future impact of US sanctions

I know it's a really long video (play it at 2x speed) but I thought it was fantastic and the part from 25:33-27:17 was particularly insightful:

"The impact of sanctions on Iran or Zimbabwe or Venezuela or Syria is something that those who may oppose western governments don't really ever discuss. So imagine if instead there was a NATO attack on Iran, you would have immediate clarity of what's happening. But the impact of sanctions on the Iranian people is not something that generates any sort of political mobilization in the core. Instead, actually, what it enables is a representation of imperialist states as humanitarian states."

"It's not like you're bringing home people in body bags. It's not like people in the US see the outcome of sanctions because it's not like CNN is going to cover the fact that Iranians of dying of rare diseases because they can't access certain pharmaceutical medications that they aren't able to produce in their own country and can't buy because of sanctions.

They straight up can't locate 61% of their assets, including weapons, planes, ships, and even buildings. In total, this amounts to several TRILLIONS of dollars since 1998 that are completely unaccounted for.

History of US Sanctions Against Zimbabwe

yewtu.be The Truth About U.S. Sanctions Against Zimbabwe

The U.S. just levied new sanctions against Zimbabwe. While the media hardly mentioned them, the US & EU have sanctioned Zimbabwe for 21 years. BT's Kei Pritsker explains the devastating sanctions and how they punish the country simply for reclaiming land for the Black majority.

In these pressing times, the magnanimous United States has decided to celebrate the holiday season by imposing some new sanctions against Zimbabwe. This vid explains the long history of Zimbabwean debt to western powers.

P.S. It's so difficult to find more information about this because literally no one is reporting on it. This press release from the US Treasury is all I got.
