  • Wow, I mean the first like 3 books are actually quite good (there was a void for this kind of writing, "serious" fantasy, and still exist IMO), but the rest was just mediocre. Especially from book 5 and onwards.

The films? They are so bad it's not even funny.

  • There was a sticker to put on your mailbox a long time ago:

"Publicity no thank you, Information yes thank you" (or something along those lines).

Publicity is trying to sugarcoat information, we never need that.

  • Well this makes you sound like an incel:

Female leadership Women lead in 2124. What skills should kids learn for this empathetic new world

"Females" aren't empatic and "males" intelligent or some bs.

That said, I would recommend you read Snowcrash. Still a probable future IMO.

Also, the 100 years is really way too far away, you won't get "Amortals" and "Mortals" living like in something similar to our society, that's just stupid (IMO). If you want to figure out how life can be in 100 years, you need to figure out how it's going to be in 10 years first! Can you do that? Or else you're just messing around, which is fine too.

So geopolitics and macro economy is what I'd recommend. And traveling.

BTW you forgot Atomically Precise Manufacturing or APM (simplistic star trek replicators basically), potentially on schedule for 2035...

    Lemmy user authentication

    Hi everyone!

Is there a simple way to use the Lemmy authentication on a web page?

Like if [email protected] clicks on a link taking them to my personally hosted webpage while they are logged in, the back end can figure out it's him doing it?

Why? I'm toying with putting one of my stupid multiplayer games online for fun so definitely nothing too serious. I'm also curious about how activitypub deals with stuff like that.

This plant-stick spawned in my pot, what is it?

    Hello!

After planting some parsley, it contaminated another pot, the big one in the photo, then some flat parsley started to grow in yet another pot so I transferred it there, god knows from where the chive comes from and then a "stick" started pushing, and eventually sprouted some leaves which could make it idetifyable, or so I hope!

Any idea what it might be? It feels like the beginning of a tree...

Edit: sorry, photo upload didn't work.

How big breakthrough is microsofts Majorana chip?

I have seen all kind of claims, bit they seems to be in the future, like 1.000.000qbits or perfect error correction.

Do they have a real breakthrough or is it just undergoing advancments on a slow road?

Latest version: enswer msg doesn't go to right place

    Hello!

Longtime Connect user, I would like to add a bug:

Since last version a couple of days ago, when someone posts a comment to a comment I posted in a thread, you get the usual little red number (1) and when you check out your new messages, there is their answer.

    So far so good.

Now when I click the message to post an answer to their answer, and this is the bug, instead of showing my post plus the answer (in the corresponding thread) it only shows the answer!

So if the answer is "no" for example, I have no idea which one of my posts it refers to. This becomes problematic in threads with lots of posts.

    HTH!

Cheers and thanks for this amazing soft!

Literally the headline. Not illegal at all is best of course.

What are real output from solar panels?

    Hello everyone and happy holidays!

I'm interested in photovoltaic panels, it's the future and all!

But with the subsidiaries and the general enshittification of search engines, all search results about photovoltaics leads to sites with wildly misleading information, IMO.

I don't care about a 3kWc system with installation. What even is a kWc (I know what it is) and why is nobody explaining how much power the panels would typically yield instead? Per month? During the day?

I guess it is less selling if your installation is generating near nothing in December when you need it the most?

Okay sorry, rant off. My question is, where can I find reliable information about how much panels generate every month, during the day?

I know places have more or less sun, but that's quite easy to figure out if you have the numbers for any place.

    🌞

Edit: I don't need a web calculator for how many panels I need. I'd like to know roughly how many watt a typical panel produces a specific day (or be

    Using old filaments

    Hello,

I put my homemade 3D printer in the garage when I moved 2 years ago, the filaments I had were maybe 2 years old and worked well.

I bulk bought them on aliexpress or maybe alibaba.

Now, the printer needs a refreshing, a bit of all kind of electrical & mechanical stuff and also figuring out how to run it from my new computer, and I wonder if I should buy some new filament so that I won't have to care about any old filament problems or what do you think? Is my filament dead or maybe ok?

    Thanks!

    Edit: thank you all!

I'll go with buy a new high quality one to get everything up and running, and then I'll check out the quality of the old spools. Who are stored open, but in a airtight box with a kilo of, now grey, alibaba deciccant pellets.

Can you clear the Lemmy Connect cache?

    Hello all!

My phone started to be low on "disk" space, and Connects cache eats up 23.5GB so I checked but couldn't find any way how to clear it.

So can you, without like uninstall+ reinstall ?

    Edit: thank you rubber-🦆

F-Droid -> DiskUsage -> helps you open the correct config page to clear caches, super easy peasy.

    Showcase Tenfingers: what to share?

Hello, I'm Valmond creator of the Tenfingers sharing protocol & implementation.

To make it more motivating for people to try it out, what should I share to showcase its abilities? It can be rougly anything up to say a gigabyte.

I'm thinking about music, video, parts of wikipedia, ...

    Legal of course.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

    Cheers & thanks!

    Automod on lemmy world

    Hello everyone!

Sometimes when I post on lemmy.world I get an automod post saying my comment was removed for civility.

Sure, maybe I treated someone a russian bot or a comrade, but I don't think I'm very un civilized, so I'd like to know what was it that crossed the line.

So I'd like to know which post was actually removed, is there a way? I'm on Connect and I have clicked all over the automod post without success... it just states a post was removed.

Also, I see no post being removed (could have missed that ofc)?

    Cheers

    Tenfingers sharing protocol

Hello and thanks for making this community!

I would like to ask a question, I'm the creator of the Tenfingers sharing protocol, and a decentralised FOSS implementation of it.

You can basically have a decentralised web site or share data with anyone.

Would it be appropriate to post asking for help here? Testing and ideas for the future mostly I guess.

    Cheers
