  • Giving currency for free: giving people real money isn't something any dev wants to deal with, so giving in game currency allows this to happen. This also applies to games where you can convert free currency to premium currency.

But this is how gift codes work, no? You're not giving money away directly. Just give a voucher for a real currency if you want to gift users.

  • Depends on the game. If it's not really demanding on reaction time, and the game is locked framerate I'm fine with 30, like Okami. However if the game is not locked FPS and I still can't hit 60 FPS at least on my 1440p monitor I'd probably just play something else (because I know I could have better experience is I could run it).

However for shooter and reaction heavy games I always aim to max out my 144 Hz monitor, even 60 FPS can feel sluggish for me

  • I am Hungarian, but everything I use is in English. As a software developer it's basically the language of my work and I started consuming media in English at a young age.

  • Never thought about it... I'd say no. But I'd like my friends and family to be proud of me (as well as myself)

  • Because it is a source of addiction imho

  • Lemmy is my primary I lurk nowadays, I only visit reddit through google sometimes. I also use Discord with most of my friend groups, I need to use Facebook Messenger occasionally because of some friends and family. For entertainment, Youtube and Twitch only (I do have premium for yt though... I know it's not nice)

  • With 1GB RAM you're better off with 32bit anyway, as applications will use less memory. Sick setup though, I hate electronic waste so it delights me to see sim old tech getting a second life.

  • Hungarian as well. Tomorrow = holnap, overmorrow = holnapután. You can also stack the ”után" if you so wish, like holnapután-után. But more than that and you will get some curious looks from others :)

  • What remains as methods of protest after this? I wonder what would happen to a subreddit if it's moderators would simply stop moderating all together...

But I guess admins could always make someone a moderator, there's always someone willing to have a power trip.

  • Yeah, when you start Jira you're probably still a happy team

  • I think it's more important than ever. Software is getting slower and slower, and the bloat is ridiculous. Imho this is because we just work with abstractions over abstracions ignorant to how it will be computed on a real machine. I think a more appropriate methapor would be, that you can speak and understand language (program) while being illiterate at the same time (not having a fundamental understanding on how a computer works). Of course this is a exaggeration, you don't need to know about these stuff to be a adequate programmer I think.

  • I do the same. I have 500GiB storage for my Pi4, which I use for torrenting and Kodi. I delete stuff if I watched it and it reaches 2:1 seed ratio, or after a couple of months. So in a way I don't really have a collection.

  • Ooooh, I love GeckOS, rolls off the tongue silky smooth. Maybe this is just a great opportunity to rebrand (again)

  • This kid is gonna get rich if they stick to it

  • Honestly, the new licensing model for Oracle JDK was known for so, so long, and every company had every chance to use an open alternative. Actually I think Oracle has been pretty lenient with it's grace period, so I don't feel sorry for the companies held accountable over this

  • Permanently Deleted

  • Do some druuuugs

Edit: Nah, jk. I do play too much Deep Rock Galactic tho, which might as well be a drug

  • This is awesome, of course it's xkdc. Thanks, now I can rest easy

  • Now I wonder how much bandwith do post offices have theoretically

  • They do be saying that life imitates art

Meta discontinues Messenger Lite for Android, it will be unavailable after Sep 18. Users need to install regular Messenger app instead

I have not found any news article on this on a whim. Because my friends and family, I need to use Facebook Messenger, and Messenger Lite was a OK client - lightweight, no unnecessary features, etc., compared to the regular Messenger app.

Now I'm a little torn, having a Meta app on my phone is already bad, but having to downgrade to the bloated Messenger app? Not sure I will make a change. What are your thoughts?
