  • lemmy.ml is still going HAM on trying to eliminate Mamdani and Platner by random attack

  • Yeah. There are insidious little features like the way they encourage toxic and hostile behaviors towards "outsiders," so that it'll be very very hard for anyone to talk sense into them, because it's always just a fight. And on their side, they therefore won't feel comfortable (they'll feel like everyone's being hostile to them) if they go outside their little bubble. And so, eventually, they can only really talk to people in the bubble, and so they get more extreme over time with no one to really check them.

That's like 30% of the people in the US right now. I think we're fucked. I don't think there is a way forward for us that leads to anything. I'm completely serious. The amount of damage that lemmy.ml itself can do is pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things, but I 100% agree, those types of little propaganda bubbles and total fantasy-worldviews are a huge factor in why civilization is stuggling so much right now to maintain itself. A lot of people don't have the blessing of a whole other community just one server over that doesn't operate that way.

  • I notice OP isn't into the idea of providing suggestions of who we should be supporting instead of lying fakers like Bernie Sanders, or what activities might lead to leftist progress. OP? Anything?

  • Yeah that's not supposed to happen unless you eat 2 whole bags or something

  • I frequently do this.

I buy salad stuff, including a small bag of croutons. I make precisely one salad with it, including the croutons. Then I keep eating the croutons because croutons are delicious. Then over the next few days I use up the rest of the salad stuff with no croutons.

Every time I do this. Croutons are great man. Maybe Wesker has just been consuming substandard croutons, if they're too hard they are awful but good croutons are not too hard.

  • Yeah, kind of. The other way to look at it is that they're getting increasingly isolated over time to the point that they have their own little hivemind (at least on political matters) that just doesn't interact with the rest of Lemmy.

It didn't used to be that way. Previously, they had their viewpoint but it was a back-and-forth where everyone on .ml / Hexbear would yell at you if you were one way, and people on lemmy.world would yell at you if you were the other way. Now it's becoming just a monoculture on .ml. There's no yelling (except for isolated intruders who are driven out pretty quickly), there's just agreement.

And yes stuff like hearing them joking about Ukrainians not wanting to die in the war and how funny it is that they don't want to die in the war was pretty horrible to me.

  • I knew this was coming lol

This video's whole thing here is that there is a consulting agency ("Fight Agency"), which formed earlier this year and who Mamdani and Platner both seem to have hired, with one single person who worked on Fetterman's campaign (and one who worked on Bernie Sanders's 2016 campaign, i.e. not a Democrat and challenging the existing Democratic establishment). They seem to be saying, not that the agency is one part of all these candidates' strategy, but that they are the ones in the driver's seat of all these campaigns who have hired them, in order to advance a sinister Democratic plot to run fake leftists in the election so they will siphon off support for real leftists who you should be voting for instead presumably (no suggestions are provided).

So... these shadowy Democratic fake consultants secretly funded and organized Bernie Sanders's campaign in 2016, because the Democrats loved the fuck out of that happening and they really wanted that primary challenge to take place to collect a lot of support from leftist voters, so they could trick them into voting for their secretly-establishment candidate. Who was Bernie Sanders. It was all part of the plan we all saw play out.

There's also a good helping of wild factual exaggeration. One good example is at 4:08: "while simultaneously doing PR for Graham Platner in the wake of it being revealed that he's a neo-Nazi with SS Tokenov tattoo on his chest." HE'S NOT A FUCKING NEO NAZI. No one is actually claiming he is a Nazi, that I have seen, they're just freaking out over the tattoo and leaving the reader to connect the dots that having this type of death's-head tattoo probably means he got it on purpose because he's a Nazi / he should have known / he definitely knew it was a Nazi symbol even if he's not a Nazi / well I don't know but it sure SOUNDS fishy and so on. It is kettle logic and feels-based character assassination which is the bread and butter of American politics at this point.

I've seen BadEmpanada do this before. I never heard of the guy until a week or two ago, but they seem to be the source of people saying Graham Platner was a prison guard at Abu Ghraib, apparently by taking one random line from one random interview and spinning it out into a wild exaggeration of what it actually says so they can toss a big bucket of shit in his direction.

Anyway, I think you can expect a lot more of this as actually progressive candidates are gaining a little traction now. We're going to see a whole bunch (a whole bunch) of super forcefully presented stuff about how you definitely shouldn't be voting for them, what's the worst that could happen, in fact if you do vote for them then you're to blame for (from 36:55) "millions of fucking dead non-Americans" and you don't care.

OP: Okay, so say Mamdani's a fake. Who should we be supporting? Who should we help break into the establishment instead?

  • I just started playing Noita recently... it's an absolute banger. It's solid gold. Creeping into the magical temple in the darkness is some of the most scared I have been in a video game I think in my entire life.

  • Two people can both be pieces of shit. And it's actually pretty common for disingenuous trolls to get behind obviously popular causes, it helps build their brand. And additionally, it's certainly possible that Peter Thiel wants to destroy the Democrats and thinks that removing Chuck Schumer will disrupt some watered-down anti-fascism that the Democrats are doing in congress any time they get their heads out of their asses, and also that removing Chuck Schumer is an absolutely vital step to reduce the horror in our governance and the ceaseless losing of elections by Democrats.

The problems in Washington are a lot deeper than any given individual and are mostly bipartisan. There is a reason why these absolute corrupt spineless buffoons keep getting elevated to these vaunted positions, and removing one buffoon is not going to right the ship. That's one thing that makes zero sense to me about "Democrats are part of a corrupt system, so therefore stop voting for Democrats and presto the corrupt system will be fixed!" But, also, a change of leadership away from the absolute worst that the Democrats have to offer can absolutely be a good thing even if it disrupts in the short run.

  • I still have a floor lamp next to my desk that was given to me broken, which I took apart and fixed. The way the little mechanism works to turn the thing on was (a) not that hard to fix once I looked at it, it's all just wires my dude (b) absolutely fascinatingly interesting in how simple and clever the design is. I was actually really impressed and happy that I took the trouble to take it apart and muck with it.

  • At one point I invested in a $10 light bulb from Home Depot because the packaging assured me that it would last for years and years and so it was actually better than the big packages of ones that were cheap. It stopped working in a few weeks. I went back and asked one of their valued team members about it, and he said maybe the "board" on it "went out," which apparently happens to them a lot.

I kind of knew when I bought it that it was bullshit, but I didn't expect it to be such bullshit.

  • I picked the examples I did for a reason lol

  • Son, I was born on the internet. Memes used to be handmade in Paint, and they were shitty. There was wild stuff on the land in those days.

I would take one James Parry or John Titor over a hundred vibrating Batmen.

  • She interviewed him during the program, he's pissed.

  • In case the relentless and horrifying "singing" hadn't given it away

  • I don't know if I am just a grumpy person but I found this extremely off-putting

  • Producers: Hey we're gonna put these actresses on screen with their tits out and make literally billions of dollars off them and also we're in a position of incredible power over them and their careers and sometimes we just straight-up molest them because we can

    Danish law: Sounds fine

This guy: Hey I'm gonna collect these scenes you made because I like pretty ladies with their tits out, also I'm some random nobody and an easy target

    Danish law: HOW DARE

  • The good news: some foods may help the body clear microplastics. “A few studies actually suggest that plants have the power to help our body… get rid of those microplastics,” Kahleova says.

In one lab experiment, complex carbohydrates extracted from fenugreek removed 89 percent of microplastics from water within an hour. Okra removed about 80 percent. “It’s just illustrating the benefits of complex carbohydrates in plants,” she says. These carbs, rich in fiber, seem to bind to microplastics, helping to flush them out.

I mean those two statements are barely related.

I do think it's a good idea to not eat seafood, never ever ever microwave plastic or ideally eat food that's been in contact with plastic while it's hot, and generally eat fresh vegetables because it's good for you. I'm just not sold on this particular linkage.

One thing they didn't mention: Donate plasma regularly. That gets rid of some of the PFAS in your body, and I wouldn't be totally shocked if it had some kind of influence on the microplastics too.
