  • Oh, that's a good point. @OP that is one reason for making it not work the way you describe, it makes it super-easy to destroy any user just by making new alts with their same name and then having them be obnoxious. IDK what the fix is really, it is a real problem that people can make alts to do ban evasion.

@cm0002@lemmy.world I should ask also, are all the described alts actually you?

  • Yeah. I wasn't even going to bring it up, just going to complain about BadEmpanada in general, but the instant I looked inside the video I saw this "BIDEN BIDEN BIDEN" stuff. Wtf lol? Why did things instantly go in that direction? Especially in conjunction with basically the only other thing I know about him (that he HATES Graham Platner and Mamdani and is willing to lie about them to encourage people not to support them) (edit: also Bernie Sanders), it seems like kind of a weird addition.

I think The Man has gotten super-good at this point in smuggling "fellow leftist" propaganda streamers into the discourse to spread his messaging, and I'm disappointed that Lemmy seems so gullible to constantly post them as long as they make the right kind of noises about Israel to give themselves cover and credibility.

  • ?

    1. Definitely not every post of theirs is upvoted (see links below). Do you have one that you feel like the voting for was probably fraudulent or something?
    2. He is vocally against lemmy.ml and reposts their content sometimes to encourage people to move off that server. What's your take on that? Does he repost anything outside of that one example that you know of?
    3. Do people ban this person? Literally all he does is post, as far as I can tell... like I looked over the user pages 1 2 3 4 5 and it's just kind of normal stuff to me.
    4. It's a little weird that he has so many accounts. @cm0002@lemmy.zip why do you have so many accounts? It is a little weird and makes it more difficult for people who want to block you, I get that part of what OP is saying, just all the rest of it like you're doing some kind of wild out-of-pocket thing by posting the stuff you post seems all the way out of left field to me.
  • This fuckin' guy again

The last US president spent about half a trillion dollars making a really significant dent in US carbon emissions, it was one of the small handful of big things he actually was able to accomplish. Nobody knows that happened, because the entire media landscape is made up of idiot streamers who say things like:

And by worse, I don't mean like like the way that a lot of liberals who pretend to care about climate change frame things is like it's all Donald Trump's fault. Like Donald Trump is so much worse than Joe Biden on climate change, blah blah blah.

I mean, that's accurate. Donald Trump is so much worse than Joe Biden on climate change. You can't just say it and then say "blah blah blah" at the end and make it not true. "We" forgot it in the sense of there no longer being any action at all by the US government on it, but don't put that on me, man.

When the fact of the matter is, if every single country in the world had Joe Biden's climate policy, the exact same fucking shit would be happening practically.

If every single country in the world had Joe Biden's climate policy, the world would be on track for a 40% reduction in emissions by 2030. Is that enough? Fuck no. Is it better than what's happening? You tell me man.

I don't know who the fuck the "we" is in this guy's universe but I have certainly not forgotten about climate change. I do think it's moderately likely, given his apparent hatred for any of the new crop of progressive candidates coming up, that he forgot about climate change during all his coverage of the 2020 election and how to look at it, and now he's making his second video in five years about the topic saying how important it is and how "we" forget about it.

  • This is pretty standard, pretty much any big lawsuit will involve the sued party moving to dismiss at around this stage. Because why not? It might work, and even if it doesn't, it will cost the opposition money and energy to respond to.

  • What the Republicans want is the complete domination of the American proletariat by the bourgeoisie (i.e, themselves).

    Correct

All the Russians want is to impede the government’s ability to project power halfway around the globe.

I don't know about "all," but that's part of what they want yes.

Russia doesn’t care about American labor laws, unions, strikes, tax policy, etc,

    Correct

if anything, all things being equal, they’d probably prefer that the workers have more power, as that could be more disruptive to the state.

    1. This would be the most around-the-bend fashion of accomplishing the US's destruction they could possibly seek to accomplish. It's far easier and quicker to just put a malicious moron on the scale of Caligula in charge and let him do what he does.
    2. And, also, the most powerful America has ever been geopolitically came after decades of labor agitation to strengthen the hand of workers at the table and give them a system they could depend on and believe in. I don't think even if they could fix the imbalances of American power that they would want to, because the inequalities within our system are a big factor in what's destroying us right now.

If you’re more preoccupied the with the geopolitical influence of the state than you are with the things I mentioned, then I think your priorities are very out of order.

The guy Russia picked is destroying workers' rights, immigrants' safety, and making the systems of justice in the United States massively worse than the already bad state that they were in. The things you mentioned are my priority, which is why I'm unhappy about Russia helping to fuck them up for reasons of geopolitical influence of the state.

The American right is, by far, the greatest threat to the American people that exists in the world.

Also the greatest threat to the rest of the world. Which is why it's bad that Russia is friends with them and helping to get it done.

  • It's not for voter fraud. It's for something much darker.

  • Yesterday on the subway I really thought about going and standing next to the man playing videos on his phone, with my own phone playing some video at top volume positioned right next to his head. And then, when he looked up at me, looking back at him and saying, "Kind of irritating? Isn't it?"

Maybe I am cowardly because I decided not to. I thought about it for a while though.

  • Yeah, pretty much.

"The system itself could not have intended this in the beginning, but in order to sustain itself it was compelled to go all the way.” ―Milton Sanford Mayer, They Thought They Were Free: The Germans 1933-45

  • You can babysit the kids, though. You guys are clearly capable, I'm sure you've got rifles and refrigerators or something, and what else are you doing right now? This isn't a game, I'm going hunting, I'll be back soon and thanks.

  • I do think Fox News has more power, but Russia's goal is unapologetically simply to do as much damage as possible. Fox is trying to hand America over to their friends and destroy their opposition and if they do some damage, oh well, but they're trying to still have a working country to hand over to the friends. Russia is simply trying to steer the bus off the cliff.

  • I mean they can both be true. The collapse of American education and media laid the groundwork for Trump. For him to even come anywhere close to power reveals a stark and horrifying collapse of everything that's supposed to keep us understanding reality and keep the whole train on the rails. But, also, Russia's formidable power at narrative-shaping in Western countries is a factor is the proximate cause of how bad it is. We haven't even really got our heads around the nature of how bad it really is, having the whole top levels of government hollowed out and destroyed like they currently are being. We'll find out the next time there is an actual crisis.

  • “Tesla Service will inspect the light bar and install an additional mechanical attachment or replace the light bar using tape to adhere the light bar to the windshield as well as an additional mechanical attachment as necessary, free of charge.”

Why is the tape there Elon

If there's an additional mechanical attachment which yes is usually the method they use to put cars together and congratulations for that but I just want to know why the tape is there also

    Answer me Elon

  • Ha, I had the exact opposite reaction, the AI thing hadn't occurred to me.

"Oh, sweet, some kind of new web technology! Let's see what it is"

"Oh it's just Mozilla's marketing department wasting money, carry on I guess."

  • Yeah. It's better than the alternative, progress is progress. But this graph spells death that is absolutely certain. It needs to start sharply spiking downwards, and it needed to do it around the year 2000.

Leveling the graph isn't healing the patient. We're still beating the patient when he's in bad shape and needs time to recover. Leveling the graph means we're no longer hitting him harder and harder with every passing day, but we're still beating him, and already he is dying.

  • Everyone's focusing on the whole Russia thing. What the fuck, though, the 90s were not good. Reagan had just got done declaring war on the entire American working class and fucking up their lives quite a lot, and Clinton pretty much continued the program, just at about 50% strength.

Listen to any of the media of the time, that's when Rage Against the Machine got their start, it was the backdrop for Fight Club. It's all hopelessness and anger. The money started coming back once the circa-2000 tech boom started, and things were still riding high a little bit off the 20th century before times, but the 90s weren't fucking good. It was latchkey kids because both parents had to work for the first time, Rodney King, Fox News starting to take over people's brains, layoffs, the battle of Seattle, shipping jobs overseas, corporate mergers, the steady death of a lot of the institutions everyone had been depending on up until then.

  • Kettle logic at its finest lol

  • BadEmpanada didn't say he knew. I don't think he knew, either, but it's at least debatable. What BadEmpanada said is that he "is a Neo-Nazi." That's a load of horseshit and you know it.

  • I found Zohran’s capitulations to Zionists to be the big problem here

I don't. He's not running for mayor of the State Department. His impact on Israel will be jack shit. His entire focus and responsibility is on (a) fixing some of the economic insanity of New York that basically doesn't care if people live or die as long as Wall Street is throwing parties (b) making significant inroads and showing everyone that point a is an election-winning strategy. There's nothing in there that's going to impact the US's horrifying foreign policy as pertains to Israel. It's nice that he's pro-Palestinian, it's a point in his favor, but it literally doesn't mean shit and extensively nail biting about whether he's really pro-Palestinian enough to be mayor of New York City is just fuckin' weird.

Is he walking back some of his pro-Palestinian stuff? Sure. He started out with this "arrest Netanyahu" stuff which I am sure is fun and popular with his base, but now all of a sudden he's in a role of major responsibility and has to get along with people including a lot of powerful people who do support Israel, so now he has to tone it down a little. I AM EXTREMELY SURE HE STILL HATES ISRAEL AND SUPPORTS PALESTINE. I don't get where it comes from, this whole freakout about it all of a sudden being super important even what he thinks about Israel in the first place (actually, not just what he thinks about it, because that is already clear, but how we can scrutinize every public statement on wedge issue framings like "globalize the intifada".)

Actually, I do know where it comes from. People who support fascism have seen how incredibly effective it was to give Biden well-deserved criticism and suppress support for him so that they can make all these problems ten times worse and dress it up in a cloak of virtue and Palestinian-support, and so now they're globalizing it to Bernie Sanders, AOC, and now they're trying it out on this guy that has LITERALLY NOTHING TO DO WITH ISRAEL IN ANY CAPACITY. He has absolutely nothing to do with it in his government role. Nothing. The only thing that talking about it can do is help create reasons for people not to support him.

Even the most “progressive” candidates need to be challenged, otherwise we’ll never move the needle further left and the establishment’s corporate masters will never be unseated from their place of power.

How'd that work out with Kamala Harris? People "challenged" her on all kinds of walk-backs, bad statements, insinuations, and attempts to thread the needle on the Israel issue. Did that unseat anybody from their place of power? Did it make anything better? Or did it make it horrifyingly worse than the genocide that was already in progress?

That's what strikes me as so stupid about the whole business. Sure, give criticism to whoever you want for whatever reason you want. Do what you like. But I don't get how, for example, pretending Bernie Sanders "is a Zionist" and doesn't deserve our support for that reason accomplishes anything of either truth or progress.
