What's on the plate? I've never seen that transparent thing
Yeah who needs koalas anyway right. Why don't we also remove the wildlife signs from roads too since we're at it
This is upsetting
That would be "Metallic [ green shade ]"
I'd say metallic mint would be a good match.
Metallic colors like rose gold are named in such a way when the metal with that color actually exists. Another example would be Steel Grey. But usually for other non alloy colors you say Metallic Colorname.
Okay... I don't think it's particularly hot. I am a creative though, I occasionally freelance as well as having a day job and when that happens the last thing I look like is hot. I become grumpy, I get dark circles around my eyes, I get pimples, I gain weight. But yeah I can function with caffeine and 2 hrs sleep
I'm going to guess it's from the movie Apocalypto, but I might be wrong.
No!!!! I came here to say that!!! GIVE ME BACK MY GODZILLA CUTOUT
Awesome you figured it out! Strange to hear it was the shader but hey good job troubleshooting
You mean I'll be able to afford renting one? Or that someone will let me live in such a place for free??? Still pretty good hey
I've only got basic experience with Blender's grooming system, but here are my would -be checkpoints:
Wait what I get a home???? With a studio??? Do I need to apply somewhere???
Link is broken for me, I'll try again later
... you got an engineering degree not knowing basic percentages and fractions?
... isn't this taught in schools? I definitely learned it before age 12
Love Beetoota, always helping me keep up with the current affairs
Job offers
Not that I've seen any in ages
Otherwise.... Mmm cats. Cats are good
I don't know if you're still on the spot, but I would get a picture that clearly shows the sign and let someone from Bunnings know. They should be able to contact whoever is in charge of the parking lot about it. And if not... Well.
Well I'm not going to discard it outright, maybe if it's really well written in a way I like, it's still engaging enough. I'd rather err on the side of too many options than too few. Thanks for the suggestions
English and Spanish, unfortunately I don't speak Italian. I should learn to perhaps, I like the way it sounds.
It is a decent set and forget universal ad blocker, however, you need to make sure you are downloading a v5 and not the v6 or it will not work. Also, you need to deactivate it and reactivate it whenever you restart your phone, this is a minor issue but it needs that kick every time your system reboots.
Full disclaimer though, if you are playing games or running something that relies on ads to work (ie "watch the next ad to get 50 points!" ) blokada may break these types of apps so it may not be suitable for you.
Blokada. I downgraded to V5 and I won't change it anytime in the foreseeable future. Whenever I can no longer use v5 I might have to find a different method of filtering ads.
Edit: also, OP, I recommend trying Blokada 5 if ads is what's annoying you in other apps. Blokada blocks ads on your phone, for all apps, not just a specific app.
Can you recommend history podcasts (or similar)?
I prefer YouTube as the platform but I'm also open to suggestions elsewhere.
Basically I'm looking for long-ish format episodes I can listen to while doing something else. Ideally the host isn't just a voice reading a text, but someone relatable or that shows enthusiasm and/or has a personal take/ humor about the topic they're talking about.
I sometimes listen to Simon Whistler's videos on a variety of topics, in case you know him, I find he's entertaining enough and his writers are usually good but I'm looking for some more variety.
I've tried Stuff You Should Know and the Oologies series and while the content seems well researched, I found them a bit boring for me.
Got any recommendations?
Wacom tablet I guess? I would hardly call it a luxury though, but it paid itself off in no time.
Otherwise my wallets. I've had one for a very long time which was really good quality and then I bought another one which I've had for years too, still in mint condition. Although I'm feeling the itch for a new one now. And guilty as well :/
App alternatives to NewPipe which can play age restricted content from Youtube?
Not so long ago YT introduced age restrictions and this every now and then prevents me from watching the video through NewPipe. NewPipe can't play age restricted content.
I have the option to log in to YT and watch the video with ads in the browser, but I would appreciate an alternative. Wondering if you guys have any recommendations. Thanks.
Did you get "the talk" as a kid?
Saw a comic recently about this topic and got me thinking. I know what "the talk" is about since it appears in so many media but I don't ever recall having such an experience personally. Did you? What was it like?
I was a late 80s kid, just for context. As far as my experience goes, my parents were very open about sex as a natural process for reproduction. They answered openly any questions I had whenever I had them, keeping to the bare minimum necessary but never avoiding the topic- also never using metaphors as a substitute for plain facts ie. "the birds and the bees".
So at about age 5 or so I was already aware about how reproduction worked on animals, us humans included. As I kept growing up of course I kept connecting the dots on any social aspects of sex and relationships (ie that is supposed to be pleasant, that people do it even if they're not planning to have babies, etc) but I never had a moment of shocking realization regarding sex. I often found it stupid how some of my
People writing "seperate" instead of "separate"
I hate it. And this is the right place to rant about it, right? I don't mind people confusing your and you're, or then for than, but when I read "seperate" my eyes cringe. It's painful.
AAAAAAAGH
WHY.
Were these accounts hacked? How does one prevent it from happening?
A few minutes ago two accounts on lemmy.ml started spamming pretty much every community on the instance with some crypto mining trash.
Moderators also noticed because all those posts are gone now, good job btw. Then I remembered, wait, doesn't .ml have an application process to filter spam and bots? Out of curiosity, I went to have a look at the users profiles and both accounts were about two years old, with no activity.
Are these hacked accounts? Is that an easy thing to do? And how can one prevent it from happening?
Affordable grid mat options?
Was considering to get a grid mat, large- at least A2 or so - of those you can write and erase. After searching online I found few options, and they're a bit pricey.
Any recommendations? I don't need anything fancy. Just a large laminated grid that can be rolled up. Thanks
How do you deal with rude customers?
So I've been working in retail for a while and seen my share of odd and rude customers, but today I had my very first "Karen", and he was american also. (I'm not, and I'm in Australia).
The store I work for doesn't give their bags for free, we charge for them. This guy picked an online order and then threw up a tantrum and demanded to speak to a manager when I refused to give him a bag for free. Another team member (more experienced) just gave him the bag and he just left.
That does it I guess, but it's giving in to rude demands what sustains this kind of behavior imo. I'm not trying to protect the interests of the corporate I work for- it's just a stupid bag ffs, perhaps ask nicely? I've been called off both for giving away bags for free before as well as calling for the manager to deal with "minor issues".
So I'm asking, in general, how do you deal with these types of customers?
Is Firefox still the recommended browser of choice here?
Asking after the privacy debacle and manifest. I'm not keeping up closely, but iirc Firefox is the browser recommended because of Ublock. After the privacy data issue I've noticed broken trust from Firefox users, recommendations in favor of switching browsers, and predictions saying Firefox is going downhill fast and that their forks won't be maintained for much longer.
So I'm here asking the seasoned sailors' thoughts, aye. Is this just a storm passing by or are you really considering jumping ship?
What's easier to shoot, a bow or a firearm?
Clearly I haven't shot anything irl ever and don't know much about weapons either. Oh and relax, I'm not planning on shooting anyone.
Question comes after videogames, which can sometimes have both weapon types used interchangeably and/or behaving in a similar way.
I would personally believe guns are easier, and that the only advantage a bow would ever have is that they're not as noisy. But I hear people say aiming with a bow is easier. I guess the type of bow and gun used would also weigh on the matter?

Spirits, there's a new guy I like. How can I impress him?
You guys did great with your Christmas predictions last time so I'm counting on your help
Is there much difference between Temu, AliExpress and Ebay?
In any way you know of. I find people here are more aware of politics and ethics behind big companies and this is what prompted my question but I'm also curious about any other differences.
I'm in Australia and I've only used Ebay and AliExpress so far. I find AliExpress has more variety and somewhat cheaper prices but I don't know why or anything else.
When I first heard about Temu it was always in relation to dodgy products and sex toys so I didn't pay much attention to it, however lately I keep hearing about people buying regular stuff without issues. Never tried it myself though.
Spirits! I need to be sharp and strong for Saturday, what should I cook this Friday night?
Please help so I can do my groceries properly in advance, thanks
What are some good free photo/image gallery apps you'd recommend?
So I accidentally turned backup on with my butt or something the other day, and Google Photos decided it was fine to upload to the cloud all my photos which I keep locally on my device.
I don't need or want cloud backup, thanks very much, and I didn't enjoy having to research how to delete all the images from the cloud while keeping them in my device, and enjoyed even less then doing all of that manually.
Zero out of five stars, I did not enjoy and would not recommend.
Now, can you recommend a free app that lets me browse and manage my own personal local collection of images? My preference is for something with an intuitive, easy to use interface. What are y'all lemmings using?
Low budget gift suggestions?
I've been searching online for some trinket/budget gifts but couldn't find anything interesting. The person I have in mind for the gift is in his 60's, into tech and a geek, although the gift doesn't necessarily need to cater to his geeky side.
I'm just dropping the question here since Lemmy has a solid geek/tech userbase, and maybe some of you have better ideas than me.
TIA
Do you know of a community where people just play around with text/silly replies?
I'm not sure what I'm looking for, so I apologize if this doesn't make sense. I don't mean "anything goes" places like 196, and I don't mean memes or joke or casual conversation communities either. I'm just wondering if there are communities with a loose set of rules where people can reply to a prompt in a game like manner, for example "repeat the same but change one word only", or " wrong answers only", I don't know, I'm open to suggestions for anything gamelike I haven't heard of.
Are illegal streaming sites really getting shut down a lot lately or has it always been like this?
And if yes, what are the implications? Are times changing for piracy in this regard?
I'm asking since I've been noticing headlines every odd day or so about different streaming sites getting shut down. I don't know if this is because people are sharing these types of news more now, or if it's because in fact the tides are turning significantly and now companies and governments have more control and power over the web.
Is it just me getting fear mongered with these headlines or is it for real? Any veteran pirates out there that can share some thoughts?
What's your favorite ice cream/gelato flavor?
I want to know. I don't care if it's a fancy artisan gelato or just your regular soft serve at McBurger's. Do you have a flavor you like? Perhaps a brand? Perhaps you make it yourself? If you're getting scoops, do you have a preference for which flavor goes on top of the other? Do you like wafer cones or are you a cup person? Any toppings?
I always prefer gelato, and some of my all time favorites are sabayon, mascarpone, anything with rum/berries/sultanas, and choc chip mint. I prefer cup to cone. When I was a kid I used to love the soft serve cones but as I grew up they started making me sick so I avoid them now.
