  • I had the 500 and 3000. I finally got rid of the 3000 3 years ago. I saw no reason to install linux at the time because it was already almost the same from my perspective, except the Amiga also had sterio sound 4096 color output, and pull-down screens. The console commands were substantially similar and several enthusiasts ported linux comands to AmigaOS.

Plus, we now can run more modern versions of AmigaOS on Linux though I have never done it myself.

Amiga still exists as a reasonably modern OS and hardware as of a few years ago. It was bought by small businesses and updated a few times.

  • The outrage is telling. Hogg is making an effort to introduce fresh faces and ideas at the primary level. This gives Democrats a chance to choose which ideas they want to go into play in congress. That is all.

If those voters are happy with what they currently have, the incumbent is safe. If not, those new ideas go up against opposing ideas. If a plurality like those ideas, they get to see them play out in congress. The only risk here is that they lose the seat.

Since at the moment, he's doing this in reliably blue districts, the risk is lower than elsewhere. This is a recipe for real change in the Democratic party for the better.

The only reason to fight against it so hard (that I see) is the protection of individuals' comfort at the expense of the welfare of our nation. It's evidence of moral rot in the the party that is threatened by true representation of the citizens' needs.

I support Hogg's efforts - as long as he does not have the morality of "boss Hogg". (For the kids out there who have no idea of what i mean, find and watch a season of The Dukes Of Hazzard.)

  • Well, I was an Amiga user. That was already unix-like, preemptive multitasking, etc. It was fading fast in the early nineties, and while i was already working in I.T., I was not interrsted in using Windows 3.11 and 95, so I began playing with Slackware Linux. I figured it was a good way to get comfortable with "real" I.T..

I learned Bash and had to compile most of the software i wanted to try. Since, like all programmers, I'm lazy, I wrote some simple scripts to build the code and make them into packages (tgz) for Slackware. This took tedium out of the work, and i could use the packkage manager to install and remove them.

Those were rough days for desktop users, though. I really had to use windows when i needed to pass output to "normies". I tried several window manager and desktops, and eventually landed on Ubuntu.

  • Exactly, yet they're futzing aound like there's no known way to deal with this behavior. This is why i think all the outrage is theater to keep us all believing things will work out until there is nothing anybody can do about it.

Then they will be free to disappear any undesirables unhindered.

  • Until i aee any evidence that anybody wants to enforce the Constitution, i conclude the next move is removal of the judge. Or maybe he'll fall out a window.

It's that bad folks. Our remaining politicians and law enforcers need to take this seriously. Shit got real months ago.

  • Go to a science fiction convention. Seriously. There's some wild live music. I wouldn't be surprised if you heard it there.

I used to go to several in the Northeast US, like Arisia, Lunacon, Philcon, Boscone. Of course yor best bet would be WorldCon.

  • I'm unaware of being in a trash-talk contest with anybody. Given that another "MasterBlaster" who is not me (on KBin) replied, I think this is a mistaken identity. In fact, this is the first time I've seen anybody else with the same handle as me.

  • The fact that Trump has not already been removed from office on the basis of violating the constitution tells me he's already won.

There are no consequences to ignoring the rule of law, so he will simply continue. Since there are no consequences to ignoring law, he will simply cancel elections. Who's gonna stop him? He's already declared himself king and few even shrugged.

It's over. The only thing left is a violent uprising. Pretty soon even saying that will be enough to put the speaker in prison as a terrorist.

  • I feel this is the best first choice. I fear i will end up emigrating as a refugee rather than by choice after this path. The level of surveillance is highly sophisticated such that i can be individually identified by facial recognition even if I'm careful about cell phone security.

This is a government that almost certainly will go after identified protesters, so i cannot do this until i have a peer group that can support me. That's what i need to find now.

  • Thanks, I will look into this. I don't speak the language, so it might be a challenge getting a job.

That said, i have long had a fascination with Scandinavia and learned much about the Eddas, the different cultures of the Scandinavian people, and of course the pantheon of dieties. I feel i have at least a thin base of knowledge to start.

  • By "homelab", do you mean your local network? I tend to use shared folders, kdeconnect, or WebDAV.

I like WebDAV, which i can activate on Android with DavX5 and Material Files, and i use it for Joplin.

Nice thing about this setup is that i also have a certificate secured OpenVPN, so in a pinch i can access it all remotely when necessary by activating that vpn, then disconnecting.

  • Any countries out there willing to take in an American who lived in France for a while, is sane, reasonably intelligent, and does not think he's better than everybody else?

I think I might have lost my country, could use a good home and community. Skilled software engineer, so i won't be a burden.

installing Windows 10 pro without an account.

It's been a few years since I've needed to install a version of Windows on a PC for personal use. I have a license for Windows 10 Pro, but today I found out it is no longer possible to get through the installation without first creating an account with Microsoft.

I don't want to do this. Does anybody have any way to get around it? The stuff I've read online basically ends up being create your account switch to a local account after installation and delete your account. I want a better solution. Would installing a much older version of Windows 10 work? The whole reason I got an msdn license back in the day is so I didn't have to do this.

    Edit: 10/2/2023

I thank you all for giving me advice and ideas. Much I had already tried before posting my question here, and some suggestions and experiences led me to keep at it. Here's my experience for others who have a similar problem.

I downloaded the ISO from Microsoft - Win10_22H2_English_x64v1. I used Ventoy to launch the in

    What's up with location services?

I'm glad microg set up shop here on Lemmy! Here's the first topic. The most recent release dumped unified nlm, and I want to know what that means for the future. I just found a new module, that works great, and now it is useless when I upgrade microg.

I searched everywhere, but there's no discussion about how to get features like locally built data points or downloading tower and WiFi databases.

Mozilla nlm requires internet, which I suppose is fine for most of the time, but when camping in the wilderness, is kinda useless.

    Is there any news?
