  • The simplest solution right now is to use a pin code instead (this would just be for your phone unlock, you can still use bio for app locks). It's inconvenient at first but you'll get used to it. After that, you can look into changing the OS if you want more privacy, if you can unlock the bootloader. Lineage is a good choice, and it looks like e/os is available for some Samsung phones. There's already been a recommendation for GrapheneOS but that's only available for Google Pixels for now.

I'd recommend starting slow if you're willing to wait. Switch to a pin lock, try out FOSS alternatives with fdroid, start looking into alternatives for major accounts like Google, etc. It's a lot and easy to get overwhelmed if you go all in at once. I spent 4 years switching everything over to FOSS and privacy focused options. The best time to start was yesterday, the second best time is today.

  • Same. So of course I'm just waiting for the news that they support eating babies or something.

  • Set it in the Spider-Man Noir universe.

  • Same reason the US could bring back fascism. It's easy for people who've never been touched by disease/war etc to believe it's just always been like this. They don't see the lives lost, the knowledge gained, or the lessons learned that gave them their privileges.

  • Let it fail. Any business that requires paying employees below minimum wage to operate is not a viable business.

  • This is the end-game takeover part and it's all about consolidation of government into the hands of corporations. Collapse every bank but don't worry, TrumpBank will suddenly be there to take on all customers with the US Treasury backing it, funneling all banking in the country into one institution to consolidate control.

I've spent the last few years feeling like the old tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist stereotype, even when these things prove true. Even typing out this shit makes me feel it again. There was a time when something like this was absurd, now, well...

  • The US is showing the future the 1% are pushing for humanity. Governments will no longer be elected politicians, but corporate CEOs.

  • So someone with a gun was forcing their way into a location which may have gov't officials inside with clear intent, was confronted while trying to enter by armed personnel who gave the order to stop, and was then shot after not complying.

This sounds familiar. Think he'll get funeral honours like Babbitt?

  • I dunno, the language suggests to me it can be worked around. It states age verification to make the OS account. Linux doesn't require accounts. This seems to target Microsoft and Apple account creation (since you won't be able to use the OS without one) and of course Google will implement account requirements on Android

  • That seems really odd to me. Generally people do at least a bit of research about a vehicle purchase, especially that expensive. I'm not even referring to Musk shit, just vehicle buying in general. Anyone looking up anything about the cost/value of a cybertruck would pretty quickly get an abundance of info about it being a bad buy without getting into any of the Musk stuff.

I guess if your boss' husband just has the money and liked the look/what it said it'd do, then fair enough. Just seems strange to knowingly buy a lemon.

  • I may be able to rig something up if I can do it per app actually. I'll look into this, thanks

  • Great, this should help simplify my search haha. Thank you

  • Interesting. I'll check this out thanks

  • Yeah it's just an HDMI connection to the TV. Once connected I can swap the output to the soundbar. I've been avoiding the Pipewire config since I do audio recording/production for a living and didn't want to screw things up haha. Looks like it's time to dive in and give it a shot. Thanks.

  • Haha damn, I just left Discord. I'll check out the forum though, thanks.

  • Google got exactly what they wanted out of it though. Get 'em young using and feeling comfortable with Google hardware and software, and trapped in the walled garden early. Most are not likely to change to another brand/OS later in life.
