  • Digital age verification. It is not "to protect the children". I saw it for what it was right away but literally everyone I talked to about it thought it sounded really positive.

  • That was always the point. Words have power, and woke was a powerful word emerging in the early-mid US referring to awareness of racial prejudice and discrimination. The Trump admin purposely co-opted the word to use in as much bullshit as possible to make it meaningless, and take away it's power. It worked.

  • All I could picture reading that last paragraph was Mac and Charlie making a fight milk commercial.

  • I keep thinking about the first ep of Battlestar Galactica (2004) where everything in the ship is hard wired and closed-circuit and realizing that that's more like what my personal sci-fi future is going to look like.

  • Absolutely. I'm just saying this verification won't stop with 18+ servers. This is just the beginning of having to show I'd to access anything and, IMO, should be fought against now.

  • "Sure, the ship is sinking, but the water hasn't reached my cabin yet. Why is everyone overreacting?"

  • Know what's better than learning something? Learning a second way to do it. Learning cursive has more benefits than simply being able to read/write it.

Kid's brains are sponges and multiple studies over the years all show a direct correlation with learning more/varied things at an early age drastically increases the ability to keep learning later in life.

  • Like the thing you’re sarcastically saying Biden would never do

I'm not sure they meant Biden would never do that. I got the impression they were saying if he did, imagine the meltdown from the maga crowd who are currently cheering it because it's "their side". Basically if a Dem gov't did pretty much anything the Trump gov't is doing they'd have a huge problem with it but since it's their team they're good with it.

  • That's nuts. I hope Americans can pull up from this nosedive, even if the time to get back flying is over and all they can get is a controlled crash.

  • Woof, that's crazy. I feel for a lot of Americans.

  • Really? In Canada it's law to allow employees time during the work day to go vote. That's not the case in the US?

  • He's increasing it to 1.5tr in 2027 instead.

  • Correct. Google is banking on users getting withdrawl and crawling back. They all do the same thing, like Meta products. They give you 30 days before deletion because they know most people are addicted and will recover their accounts.

  • This is where I'm leaning. I tried Matrix years ago and just couldn't get my brain around it, but it looks like it's time to revisit it.

  • Thankfully the Rock's remake seems to have been scrapped (fingers crossed it stays that way), so Big Trouble in Little China (hence my name).

I'd also say The 'Burbs (one of my favorites) but it just got a series.

  • Group voice chat?

  • He also recently mentioned about his new Netflix movie that Netflix said "it wouldn’t be terrible if you reiterated the plot three or four times in the dialogue because people are on their phones while they’re watching."

  • I'm doing what I can, as small an impact as it has. I've become much more aware of what I buy, use, and consume. I've begun to repair things instead of just buying new replacements, I don't buy American whenever possible, and I don't use any AI at all. I've completely cut out Google, Microsoft, Apple, Meta, Amazon, Reddit, any streaming service and any social media except the Fediverse, and of course nothing from Musk.

However, the biggest impact I've been able to make has been getting a couple people to re-think what they consume from fascist-enabling big tech companies. Small wins.
