  • I’m sorry but are we really going to make an article whenever people worth millions donate 25k?

She apparently is worth about 10 million before she had a massive hit this summer according to The only source.

That means this donation is at the very most 1/400th of her wealth.

I’m worth 25k myself. So 1/400th of that is like if I donated 60 bucks.

  • not worry about money [to meet basic needs].

Everyone worries about money. But for an upper middle class person they’ll be worrying if they can afford to send their daughter to a private university or to afford an expensive trip — that’s not worrying about basic needs.

  • Currently everything on lemmy will be slanted to one side. The problem is not the community, but lemmy’s userbase.

(I see it more as a good thing then I problem, as someone in a minority people to the right often believe should be effectively eradicated)

  • Yes, but someone worrying about property tax increasing so they might have to take economy instead of business class on their annual Bahamas holiday, is not the same kind of worrying as:

“Oh fuck if Trump cuts this program then I’ll have no choice but to crash at a friend’s place or live in my car”.

  • My reflex moving over was to subscribe to everything I’m interested in and never use all, because I’ve never used it on reddit.

This created a problem where since lemmy’s sorting all basically sort by most popular (except scaled but that sort is problematic for other reasons), I basically only saw the meme and news communities I subscribed to on my feed and the niche stuff never made it.

I know @[email protected] is working on an algorithmic alternative [email protected] but it’s not got support on any apps.

Announcing RBlind custom dark and light themes for Lemmy

    cross-posted from: https://rblind.com/post/3476242

As part of OurBlind's continued efforts to provide accessible online spaces for the blind and visually impaired community, we've developed custom themes for Lemmy, to use on our Lemmy instance on Rblind, and to make available for others, in keeping with the themes' license terms and the spirit of free and open source software.

If you're reading this on www.rblind.com and are not signed in, you're using RBlind-Dark. We hope you're enjoying it! If you log in, you can switch to RBlind-Light. Once logged in, go to your username, then Settings and, use the Themes dropdown to make your selection: we suggest RBlind-Dark or RBlind-Light at the end of the list.

Why these themes matter to us

We started this Lemmy instance back in 2023, prompted by the Reddit API protests. Reddit Inc., the company that controls the website our community r/Blind is on, had announced policy changes that made the apps mos

    Summary

The DOJ has found that Oklahoma City and its police department discriminate against people with behavioral health disabilities by unnecessarily institutionalizing individuals and escalating crises with armed police instead of behavioral health professionals.

The 45-page report highlights avoidable use of force and unmet mental health needs, with the DOJ offering to work with city officials to address violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

State leaders, including the governor and attorney general, acknowledged mental health system issues but criticized the DOJ's findings as federal overreach.
