So, this is the place where I'm going to be generally hanging out and trolling around, while my Pixelfed, Mastodon, and Blacksky accounts are going to be primarily art posting accounts, and I also have a Nooki account.

I'm also going to start to be active more on here than on lemmy.org, so I'm making this my primary Lemmy account now.

I'll link the other socials I'm varying levels of active on below, plus my lemmy.org account which I'm demoting to my secondary account if that instance is going to be more unstable from now on.

  • Family Guy easily. Everything after the point where Brian was killed off and revived is basically a 'Kill me' cry at this point with how sadistic it's gotten since that point; it's like that show is begging to be put out of its misery.

Pokemon doesn't count because they recently retired Ash and brought on a new lead character in his place, and they're actually trying to branch out more lately with spinoffs such as Pokemon Concierge, which that spinoff is adorable from what little I've seen of it, btw.

Spongebob also needs to end just out of respect for its dead creator. Like, if Nick had any respect for Hillenberg's wishes, which if I'm remembering this right, he wanted no spinoffs of Spongebob, they should've just ended that show after he died and left it alone from there, what they're doing with that IP is basically pissing on the guy's grave.

Edit: Going back to Pokemon spinoffs, I'd love to see the existence of sort of a Pokemon 'Busytown' although that's not something I'd actively seek out, because that would be ridiculously adorable as a concept, ditto for taking 'Pokemon Art Academy' and turning it into sort of an animated 'Art Attack' counterpart, how Nintendo didn't try that, I will never know as it would've been genius on their part.

  • PS2 generation because it was the last generation where your games were guaranteed to work without a web connection and they were generally shipped as finished products.

The PS3 generation started the current trend of still needing a web connection even for a physical copy and IIRC it also started the trend of shipping games unfinished and patching them later, and both trends went off the deep end with the PS4 generation where most of the games are broken at launch and patched later, and the 'physical copies' are little more than glorified license keys for games you gotta download anyways, or in more extreme cases, eg. GT7 on the PS5, need a web connection to even boot the game.

Like, you can dust off your PS2/GC/OG Xbox, stick a game disc in, and it'll play just like it were new, but that's not as guaranteed with the PS3/XB360 and good luck with the PS4/XB1 and newer.

That said, if you're integrating a PS2-generation and older console into a modern AV stack, you're going to want a hardware upscaler such as an OSSC, RetroTink, or Framemeister.

And we're definitely in a rut and the only way out is a Second Video Game Crash.

  • I thought Fuchsia was proprietary.

  • Are they going to check people's PCs at the state borders as they move in then?

  • Goodbye tech ownership in Colorado if this passes. We're moving one step closer to the government issuing out thin clients that only they control.

  • Hiding evidence, eh, MS? Because that's what this hits me as given AI's well-known penchant for mass plagiarism.

  • Plus Windows already tried blocking sideloading with S Mode. What's stopping them from permanently enacting that for the Home SKU at some point down the road given their recent track record of implementing unpopular things regardless of public outcry?

Also, what's stopping Google from just completely rewriting Android as a Windows-style closed-source OS that they have complete control over at some point?

  • Good thing I killed my Pinterest a while back. I've just been using Binternet without an account any time I wanted to browse through Pinterest.

Same for using Redlib without an account when wanting to look through Reddit, or Invidious while being signed out of YT while both of those are still options.

  • How soon before Windows copies this, given they already tried this sorta lockdown with S Mode?

Also, couldn't Ubuntu hypothetically lock down the Snap store like this?

  • I'm not sure how 'modern' this is, but you could pick up an iPod Video or Classic, whose audio section is still competitive by modern standards, and then flash-retrofit it and Rockbox it.

  • Matrix. Also to a much lesser degree XMPP.

  • The alt front-ends still work.

  • Parental controls have been an effective way for decades. In combination with actually looking over your kids, of course.

  • I personally migrated to one of Blacksky's public PDSes, namely cryptoanarchy.network, when the main bsky.social PDS introduced a deeply unpopular ToS change back in October of last year, but I've also been actively posting on Mastodon lately.

And I got no problem moving to Mastodon full-time if the entire ATproto platform ever goes south including for third-party or self-hosted PDSes.

I killed my Twitter months ago and have no plans of starting one back up.

  • Good luck with that on the Fediverse or on Matrix.

  • Good luck KYCing self-hosted instances.

  • NileRed is more adult than T-C based on the type of stuff he messes with being super dangerous sometimes, though. Like, I wouldn't want a kid messing around with things like manganese heptoxide or various strong acids or whatever that are super dangerous on their own with adults messing with them, let alone kids.

  • I still must warn that the guy messes with things that are definitely age-inappropriate for kids, though, see the aforementioned sulfuric acid.

  • Age-gated vids are login-walled full stop, and I won't be surprised if the rest of the site gets login-walled at some point too, in addition to the implementation of DRM so you can't download YT vids anymore, nor use alt clients.
