So, this is the place where I'm going to be generally hanging out and trolling around, while my Pixelfed, Mastodon, and Blacksky accounts are going to be primarily art posting accounts, and I also have a Nooki account.

I'm also going to start to be active more on here than on lemmy.org, so I'm making this my primary Lemmy account now.

I'll link the other socials I'm varying levels of active on below, plus my lemmy.org account which I'm demoting to my secondary account if that instance is going to be more unstable from now on.

  • I can't believe we're at the point where entire OSes are blocking whole areas now. What's next, Cali and anyone else who pushes this will ban building custom PCs because they don't ship with a pre-approved OS by default? Will companies like System76, Framework, Tuxedo, and Valve stop selling their hardware because they either don't ship with Windows by default or give you the option to provide your own OS entirely?

  • They're teleprompters.

  • Good thing LibreWolf exists.

  • Yes, I'm referring to Rubio.

  • Says the person whose country is actively undermining civil liberties and enabling censorship on their own people. And how soon before this extends to US citizens too?

  • Not yet, but surely AOSP distros are in the crosshairs next if they're not already.

  • If you ever wanna play 4K BDs on PC, you'll need a 4K-compatible drive that's been hacked with LibreDrive though, otherwise you're stuck using a dedicated set-top player for those.

1080p discs can at least be handled by libaacs and libbdplus /w the necessary files, and don't necessarily need a hacked drive to play back.

  • Yeah, it's in its 24th season currently. Even King of the Hill got a revival although IMO it ended fine. That said, the circumstances under which that show ended have come into question before as some have speculated it was killed to make room for more Family Guy spinoffs such as the failed Cleveland Show.

  • KeePass.

  • Even Nintendo and GameFreak/The Pokemon Co. care more about Pokemon, at least enough to finally retire Ash as the main character recently and bring someone new on as the lead.

But really, how Nick is treating Spongebob is as terrible as you can possibly get, like I said, they're pissing on Hillenberg's grave.

As for Family Guy, Seth McFarlane is basically begging for it to be canceled at this point with how sadistic and unfunny it's gotten from what people have said about the newer seasons of it post-Brian's revival.

  • And not just because of the usual 'it's gone on too long' gripe either, but also because Nick is basically pissing on its creator's grave keeping it going long after his death, as I pointed out in an edit on my post, Nick should've just ended the series after Hillenberg died out of respect for the guy.

  • Another way to look at it, is Brian should've just stayed dead if his revived form is the most unlikable piece of garbage you can possibly imagine a character to be.

  • Sad to say, but YT's quickly going down the tubes lately for anything with any kind of substance as slop content is promoted over anything actually good nowadays.

  • No, and the ethics behind it are too screwed to try it.

  • Family Guy easily. Everything after the point where Brian was killed off and revived is basically a 'Kill me' cry at this point with how sadistic it's gotten since that point; it's like that show is begging to be put out of its misery.

Pokemon doesn't count because they recently retired Ash and brought on a new lead character in his place, and they're actually trying to branch out more lately with spinoffs such as Pokemon Concierge, which that spinoff is adorable from what little I've seen of it, btw.

Spongebob also needs to end just out of respect for its dead creator. Like, if Nick had any respect for Hillenberg's wishes, which if I'm remembering this right, he wanted no spinoffs of Spongebob, they should've just ended that show after he died and left it alone from there, what they're doing with that IP is basically pissing on the guy's grave.

Edit: Going back to Pokemon spinoffs, I'd love to see the existence of sort of a Pokemon 'Busytown' although that's not something I'd actively seek out, because that would be ridiculously adorable as a concept, ditto for taking 'Pokemon Art Academy' and turning it into sort of an animated 'Art Attack' counterpart, how Nintendo didn't try that, I will never know as it would've been genius on their part.

  • PS2 generation because it was the last generation where your games were guaranteed to work without a web connection and they were generally shipped as finished products.

The PS3 generation started the current trend of still needing a web connection even for a physical copy and IIRC it also started the trend of shipping games unfinished and patching them later, and both trends went off the deep end with the PS4 generation where most of the games are broken at launch and patched later, and the 'physical copies' are little more than glorified license keys for games you gotta download anyways, or in more extreme cases, eg. GT7 on the PS5, need a web connection to even boot the game.

Like, you can dust off your PS2/GC/OG Xbox, stick a game disc in, and it'll play just like it were new, but that's not as guaranteed with the PS3/XB360 and good luck with the PS4/XB1 and newer.

That said, if you're integrating a PS2-generation and older console into a modern AV stack, you're going to want a hardware upscaler such as an OSSC, RetroTink, or Framemeister.

And we're definitely in a rut and the only way out is a Second Video Game Crash.

  • I thought Fuchsia was proprietary.

  • Are they going to check people's PCs at the state borders as they move in then?

  • Goodbye tech ownership in Colorado if this passes. We're moving one step closer to the government issuing out thin clients that only they control.
