On Home Server Hardware
I'm looking into to building a small media server. I will be th only user of it. So I don't need the ability to do simultaneous streams. I am planning on running Jellyfin.
Sense I am on a more limited budget I was thinking and older desktop and transcoding my files (on my powerful desktop) to be best supported and play smoothly.
Are there any specific recommendations you guys have for hardware I should keep a look out for that's cheaper or other recommendations for cheap hardware?

Make sure to merge your credit files with the credit bureaus in your country after updating your name with them
Writing this because the credit bureaus did not inform me that I had to merge my 2 files under the proper name before I learned the hard way.
Simply updating your change of name is not enough as it only creates 2 separate file names (deadname and proper name) that will lead to complications applying for mortgages/loans/banks.
You have to contact the customer support again and ask them to consolidate the credit files under your proper name.

Clothing to make me appear slightly less masculine
So, I've been going to the gym every week since October '23, which I enjoy. However, I've noticed my arms are getting thicker and my shoulders are looking broader, and it's making me feel pretty dysphoric.
At the minute, I'm just wearing baggy jumpers and hoodies, but it'll be too hot for that in a few months' time. So, are there any AMABs out there who can give me some tips to shift my appearance away from "man mode"?
EDIT: Fixed typo

Tips on creating a small website just to host links to pirated content I've translated

I want to build a "pirate portfolio" of all my personal fan works. There's manga, anime, documentaries, book chapters, all sorts of things I've translated myself from Russian and English. Mostly Japanese, British and modern Russian content. No USA.
What do you guys think would be the best place to host the website? Not the content itself, which I plan on uploading to mega until I can afford to build a small home server.
I live in a "pirate-friendly" country (Brazil), but it won't make any difference if the website platform itself is located in a regulated country, am I right? They can have it taken down anyway.
I'm thinking of nothing special, even a simple rentry page, minimally customized, would do.
So, what do you guys think I should do to protect my website from being randomly taken down? How to post the links? Where to host the websites? Thanks!

How do you learn with brain fog and bad memory?
Hey all,
I wasn't quite sure what to title this, so I gave up and just asked the question. I'll be a bit vague, as the point is not the specific bit of code I'm stuck on, but moreso the general issue of an uncooperative brain.
How do you make any real progress learning if you deal with frequent brain fog and have terrible short term and long term memory?
For example, I finally learned how something works after months of trying to wrap my head around it. Didn't end up using it for a few months more, and now I forgot it again. I'm back to square one, trying to relearn things I already learned. And that's assuming I wake up and can actually focus on anything. Some days, brain fog rolls into the harbor and I just stare dumbly at the screen, barely able to concentrate on the task, much less think about the code or complexities. It's impossible to make progress on days where I forget what I was doing before I even start.
Other days, my brain seems to be running on all cylinders, and I ca

I’m (44M) and he’s (42M). We had active and engaging conversation and found that we enjoyed a lot of the same things. We cleared all the minefields of religion, politics and children with flying colors. We’ve even shared our neurodivergent ways with each other. He’s even willing to go running with me! That so huge. Friday, we made the decision to share phone numbers so that we could communicate off app. We chatted and FT till I dozed off. We’ve made plans to meet and both volunteer for a huge beer festival, Snallygaster in October. From my end all seems to be going well and according to plan if there was one. He’s engaged, texts regularly about my day and asks many open en

Best portable induction stove to replace gas burners
Hey! I wasn't too sure if this question belongs here or over in Technology but here we go.
My roommate and I want to stop cooking with the gas burners at our place for various reasons and so we were considering getting one of those portable induction stoves and using that to cook instead. We're renting the place so we don't have the option of completely replacing the stove.
I was wondering if someone has some experience with this and maybe a stove model to recommend, or is it a terrible idea and would not work for X reason? Thanks in advance!

Hello fellow future cyclists,
I need your expertise on this matter. For context, I want to do an Ironman, so I'm going to buy a road bike in order to train. I've been looking for some bikes and I've reached these two, they are second-hand bikes and both in good condition. One is sold at a bike shop, and the other is a private deal.

Hosting Matrix Server & Bridges
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.perthchat.org/post/516304
Hi all,
I want to host my own matrix server, so that i can run bridges to all the other (stupid) messaging apps.
I am looking for any advice or experience in choosing which server to run, and if you know of any good tutorials, run throughs, etc. i typically would like a lighter instance, as i expect about 3 users, with 2 of us needing bridging.
- dendrite
- synapse
- conduit
- construct
and then the addition of bridges, (Signal, WA, Messenger and hopefully SMS).
I am fairly self sufficient when it comes to self hosting, and i run everything on linux, in docker, proxied by Nginx proxy manager. but typically prefer stuff that works more or less out of the box.
Thanks all!

How to keep cat out of chipfeeder
Earlier this year, we adopted Loki to keep our Bast company after Ferrix died last year.
Bast and Ferrix both were fed on schedule, several times per day. Ferrix sometimes left some food for later, but Bast is a vacuum so we would take the leftovers away to be given later when he came asking.
Loki, however, is a grazer - he'll eat some and come back multiple times over the course of the day. Thus we got a chip feeder, so we didn't have to take it away all the time.
Bast soon figured out that he could eat from the side when Loki was eating as well, so we added a side barrier. This worked well for a while, but mister smarty-pants has now figured out that it takes a few seconds for the lid to close after Loki wanders off, and that if he sticks his head in fast enough, the lid will bounce off his thick skull, back off and stay open... At first it happened very occasionally - presumably he doesn't like being hit by the lid - but it's happening more frequently, indicating that he's learne
