[Documentary] The blood on our Controllers - The Complicity of the Game Industry in the Palestinian Genocide
Quoted from the video description:
"The blood on our Controllers" is an amateur documentary made to denounce the role of the video game industry in the normalization of the Palestinian genocide, through its close relation with the military industrial complex and the representation of Arab communities in games. It is a collaborative work between developers, artists, animators, and academicians to show how our games are doing wrong or right, what the game industry could be and what needs to be done for it to happen.
It's time for those who have been the loudest for so long to try and learn to listen.
Speakers (in order of appearance): Hippolyte Caubet, Rami Ismail, Younès Rabii, Florent Maurin, Meghna Jayanth, Holly Nielse

“Investigating War Crimes in Gaza,” a new documentary by Al Jazeera, examines social media posted by Israeli soldiers.
Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit has just released a documentary on Israeli war crimes, based in part on social media posts from Israeli soldiers themselves. The documentary begins with the Palestinian novelist Susan Abulhawa, as well as footage of the Al-Awda school massacre in July, when Israeli troops killed at least 31 people at a school sheltering displaced Palestinians. The moment the bomb exploded was captured on video by someone recording a youth soccer game in the Al-Awda school courtyard.

Robert Hughes - The Shock of the New

This was my original introduction to modernism in the book form. Along with John Berger's Ways of Seeing, the documentary form is one of the best primers for the period out there. Across eight episodes it covers the history, sociopolitical context, and the ways in which modernism began to give way to postmodernism. While not an outright Marxist like Berger was, Robert Hughes' documentary series has strong critiques of art history that Marxist art theorists saw a lot of value in. From an obituary post: http://marxistupdate.blogspot.com/2012/08/robert-hughes-marxist-view.html
::: spoiler spoiler We have lost one of the great cultural commentators of our time. Equally riveting in prose or on television, Hughes had encyclopaedic knowledge and a combative but poetic style, which allowed him to communicate complex ideas about art and artists with edge and accessibility.
Most importantly he knew how to beat a path between cultural artifacts and aspects of the contemporary world in a wa

About Ganggangsullae, a Korean traditional circle dance and communal folk play of the harvest season

From the video description:
Ganggangsullae [강강술래] is a seasonal harvest and fertility ritual popular in the south-western part of the Republic of Korea, performed primarily on Korea’s Thanksgiving [Chuseok] in the eighth lunar month. Under a bright full moon, dozens of young, unmarried village women gather in a circle, join hands and sing and dance all night under the direction of a lead singer. During interludes, the women playfully mime vignettes reflecting life in a farm or fishing village, including treading on roof tiles, unrolling a mat, catching a mouse or tying herrings. The dance takes its name from the refrain repeated after each verse, although the exact meaning of the word is unknown. Once a rare break from restrictive rules governing the behaviour of rural young women who were not allowed to sing aloud or go out at night, except

This is a documentary showing a school for Zainichi Koreans as well as following the students when they visit DPRK (@30:53 if you want to see that part). This 45min video is an abridged version of the full documentary which came out in 2006.
The Japanese word Zainichi (在日) means "residing in (zai) Japan (nichi)". The Korean equivalent is 재일, which has the same meaning.

Witches and Faggots, Dykes and Poofters
A documentary about the first Mardi Gras parade in Sydney, Australia. I found a copy of this earlier in the year and posted it on archive.org. Content Warning for police brutality.

I'm cross-posting this here as I thought this community might find it interesting as well. I think the way I procured it also leads to a bigger discussion about the preservation of queer film & media. I think it's important, now more than ever, for younger and freshly realised queer people to see that we've been here and fighting for our rights for a really long. Videos like this one feel like they evoke a more visceral connection to that past.

A Special Day
"Mankind...that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests."
- President Thomas J. Whitmore, July 4th, 2006
Today is a special day, a day we will always remember; the day that all Americans -- and really the world -- came together, united. On this day, 27 years ago, we faced a threat unlike any other, and we overcame it.
I want to thank you all for being here, as we approach 1000 members, and to be grateful, and remember those who put their lives on the line. Many hail Cpt. Steven Hiller and David Levinson as the heroes who made our victory possible, but I urge you to remember also the brave souls like Russell Casse who lost their lives here, on Earth, while defending us.
I encourage you all to watch the documentary on these events, if you haven't already. You may find that it contains details and insights that you
