Key Building Projects and Civic Initiatives by Giuseppe "Peppone" Bottazzi - Communist mayor of Brescello in the Po Valley in the 1950's
Giuseppe Bottazzi, known as Peppone, grew up in a modest working-class family.
and had a Childhood of hardship, typical of rural laborers in early 20th-century Italy.
Before World War II, Peppone worked as a mechanic, repairing farm equipment and vehicles
His technical skills and familiarity with the village’s agricultural needs fostered a deep connection to its laborers.
During World War II, Peppone emerged as a key figure in the Italian Resistance, fighting against Fascist forces and Nazi occupiers in the Po Valley from 1943 to 1945.
Peppone’s partisan service established his authority and trust among villagers, paving the way for his election as mayor circa 1945/1946. His heroism resonated with the Po Valley’s strong anti-F

An incredible amount of "Top Gear" is either excessive enviromental crimes or needlessly endangering others
I know it's a scripted show, none of it being real.
Still, half of the challenges drip a gallon of oil onto the ground because ha ha Hammonds Car has a leak. Or maybe we just drown one in the british coast line, all fluids in there. Or make a car that cannot be driven safely on public roads, then drive it on public roads.
Especially made worse by the fact that Clarkson complains endlessly about health and safety. I assume, it beeing a BBC-Production, they stuck to it. Which poses the questions of why can you drive the least safe car on public motorways or just dump gallons of oil everywhere and still be compliant. Doesn't seem like Health & Safety really does all that much for Health or Safety.
Federal Attorneys Accidentally Leak Doubts About Plan to Kill Congestion Pricing in NYC
Lawyers for the federal government briefly uploaded a letter laying out a longshot argument to revoke approval for the MTA's congestion pricing tolls.
“Accidentally” is a big assumption here. The attorneys think the DOT doesn’t have jurisdiction to overturn the pilot program, and as there’s no federal dollars being doled out it’s unlikely that they could kill it on budgetary grounds.
an old saying in Glasgow ‘We never knew how poor we were until someone told us.’ was only when we entered new home on 14th floor, that we realised the real slum-like conditions we had been living in

“It was heaven to start with but ended up hell” says John, a former resident of the Plean Street high-rise flats in Yoker, as he summarised his 20 years living there. He was one of the first residents to move into the flats in the mid-1960s, when he and his mother had been decanted from Cowcaddens slum clearances by Glasgow Corporation.
Coming from a room and kitchen, with no hot water, no central heating and no indoor toilet, John was one of the tens of thousands of Glaswegians who were uprooted from the worst slum conditions in Europe to a ‘completely new life’. “There is an old saying in Glasgow that went: ‘We never knew how poor we were until someone told us.’ It was only then, when we entered our new home on the 14th floor, that we realised the real slum-like conditions we had been living in.”
In the 1970s John remembered the Plean Street flats as a place defined by aspiration a

Why cargo bikes cost so much in the West?
The cycle rickshaw, which is a variant of a cargo bike is quite common in Asia. The price for a new one ranges from $100-500. Meanwhile, a bike with elongated rear rack, e.g., a longtail cargo bike (barely counts as cargo bike) can cost $1,000 in the West, and that is the entry level "cargo bike." A front load cargo bike costs $2500 and upwards. An Urban Arrow (tm) cargo bike can cost a whopping $6-7k.
