Ryu Oyama's Cthulhu Statue

I think most Lovecraft-based art is horrible. But I really like that. It's ~14 inches tall.

Tech bro sensibility. In this horrible 60s Apple ad - all that stuff there that's used for creativity gets crushed and destroyed.

I wish it was like tv. The judge would say "and presumably smacking your client on the ass..."

NEW: In a sidebar today, Judge Merchan directed Trump's attorneys to tell him to stop "cursing audibly" and "shaking his head," which could intimidate the witness and affect the jury. "I won't tolerate that," Merchan said. (via Kaitlan Collins, CNN)

IDF troops find weapons concealed in incubators at Gaza hospital

IDF forces found weapons concealed in incubators inside a Gaza Strip medical center, the army revealed on Saturday, highlighting the use of civilian infrastructure for military purposes by Palestinian terrorist groups. In a statement, the IDF said recently completed, in cooperation with the Shin Bet security agency, a large-scale operation at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Jabaliya, which had been utilized by Hamas as a command and control center.

The IDF reported the apprehension of approximately 90 individuals suspected of terrorist activities, including some implicated in the October 7 massacre. A notable aspect of the operation was the IDF and Shin Bet's interrogation of hospital staff, who revealed that weapons were concealed in incubators within the NICU – incubators meant for the care of premature infants.

  • MSNBC had this doctor on to talk about the horrible situation in Gaza.

3 years ago, MedGlobal was born - MedGlobal

By Dr. Zaher Sahloul, MedGlobal President and Co-Founder

Three years ago, I was in Yemen with three other medical volunteers, providing internal medicine and pediatrics services to people suffering from the effects of war and famine. MedGlobal had just been formed. In between medical consultations, we talked about the goals for the future of our organization, dedicated to providing innovative healthcare to crisis-affected and low-resource areas.

I don't know anything about him - I copy and pasted that for context.

I was listening to in the background so I don't know how long the interview was. I think ~7 minutes at least. I noticed something very unusual. Almost zero questions. Stephanie Ruhle was interviewing him. Ruhle isn't rude but it's her habit to pepper guests with questions. She always does that. I've never seen her be so quiet. Also - MSNBC's PR shtick is that they ask questions and it makes you smarter. I forget an recent tagline - it was something like "Never stop asking questions".

It's the norm that anchors/reporters ask a lot of questions. In one way - the lack of questions was really great. He was highly knowledgeable and informed the audience in stark terms about how awful things are. That's the first time I've seen that on CNN or MSNBC. But the producers must have had him on because even though he didn't pull punches about the medical situation - they knew he was very politic and he'd avoid "politics".

The end result was that the agent of the chaos, Israel, hardly came up at all. It was like these horrible unfolding health problems were happening all by themselves due to unknown or poorly understood causes.

  • Guess who said it...

A self-made legend and American treasure, Jimmy Buffett, will be sorely missed and joyfully celebrated from coast to coast, sea to sea. We crossed paths once in Austin and had many laughs that evening over a few glasses of red. Wish we'd gotten to do it again. RIP, Jimmy. We learned to be cool from you.

  • Welcome to the future where tech is getting worse all the time.

Google was garbage so I used a chatbot for the very first time. I asked it why the actor Ken Howard left the tv series "Crossing Jordan". He started out in the main cast but by season 4 (2005) he only appeared in one episode and then he had left the series. The chatbot produced total crap that seemed real.

Ken Howard left the show Crossing Jordan in 2006 due to his starring role in the Broadway revival of the Pulitzer Prize winning play '1776'. Howard had already been appearing in theatre productions while working on the show, but the producers of Crossing Jordan allowed him to take part in the musical as long as he was able to make it back for shooting.

However, once the show became a hit, it was difficult for the producers to accommodate his schedule. In addition, Howard was offered the chance to play the lead role in the film adaptation of 'The White Countess' which he also could not pass up. Ultimately, he had to make a difficult decision between continuing his role in Crossing Jordan and pursuing the new opportunities.

    • Howard appeared in the 1972 movie "1776". But there was no ~2006 Broadway revival of "1776". The revival happened in 2022. Howard died in 2016.
    • "The White Countess" came out in 2005 but Howard had nothing to do with it.
  • "They got mad at me when I said it but they do run the world!"
