Pet Peeves

Welcome to Pet Peeves, where the little things that annoy you are welcome.

Ever notice the thousands of posts and comments out there that just grind your gears? You always want to say something about how much whatever it is sucks, and you hate it. But, then you're going off topic and get people mad at you.

Well, don't do that. Come here instead! Tell us about your pet peeve!

Rules are simple

1: Do not link to comments or posts elsewhere. This ain't power tripping bastards, we aren't here to judge users or mods, we're here to vent a little spleen about the minor annoyances of life.

2: IF screen shots are used, they must have any and all user names obscured fully, and any community names as well. Like already said, this isn't about going after anyone or anywhere in specific, it's about us having a peeve.

3: Wheaton's law is in effect. Don't be a dick. It ain't cool, and it won't be allowed to stay up. Fair warning ahead of time, mods make the call as to what is and

Cars at night with no lights

This weird situation created by cars that are mostly automatic but not quite fully automatic, have moved to screens for the dash or a permanently back lit dash, and increasingly bright DRL’s that pass for headlights in a lot of cities with sufficient street lights.

Having a car that is automatic in so many ways means drivers don’t have a habit of managing things manually. They probably have an automatic lights setting even and the driver doesn’t realize the auto setting has been switched off.

Having a dash that is always lit removes the obvious queue to a driver that they are driving with their headlights off at night.

And bright DRL‘s remove the obvious queue to the driver of a dark road in front of them.

None of these innovations is bad on its own. But the conflation of them all means about one in 50 cars I see on the road at night is driving with no tail lights on or any side markers.

Yes, they have reflectors and my headlights light them up so I can usually see they

    When a site doesn't have a web/RSS feed

Yes I'd like to follow your site's posts. No I don't want an email newsletter and no I don't want to follow your social media.

Just your site, direct links to its posts, in my reader. No accounts. No opening emails or social media.

Please. I know this is mostly me being among the RSS holdouts, but if you're out there with a site with a RSS feed, even if it wasn't intended yet you kept it anyway, thank you.

People writing "seperate" instead of "separate"

I hate it. And this is the right place to rant about it, right? I don't mind people confusing your and you're, or then for than, but when I read "seperate" my eyes cringe. It's painful.

    AAAAAAAGH

    WHY.

    Vibe based post

You know, I don't think I've ever gotten tired of a new slang phrase as fast as I have "vibe based"

It went from, "oh, that's gonna be popular" to "jfc, it's already turned into the next default condescending bullshit" in something like a week

It's almost like there's a race to turn minor snarkiness into outright smug nastiness in the bare minimum amount of time possible.

It's the new way to say "I think I'm better than you, and you aren't worth the effort of saying this in an original way".
