  • I’ve been lurking in ALL for about a week pretty consistently having now completely abandoned the alternatives and I’m not sure I saw the image in question. In fact, I’m pretty sure I didn’t. So, those of you worried about the image… many of us, I presume, didn’t even see it. Anyway… glad to see there is a process to deal with miscreance and glad to know it works!

  • It’s gotten to the point here at Lemmy that I’m wanting to set up my two favorite communities. It’s just that they are so niche I can’t imagine them taking off. And my pleasure in them is of course derived from people who are FAR MORE into them than I am.

But I can’t even go back to that cesspool Reddit now even for the good stuff. Oh well.

  • I arrived at LEMMY after what I think we very optimistically called the Reddit Collapse. We wish. And I had toe in LEMMY and a few others at Reddit.

Recently with their abusively patronizing redesigning and gamification and just ugly bullshit, I can’t stomach Reddit at all. So LEMMY grows increasingly important, not just to me but to folks who haven’t yet even heard of it.

So, I’ll just say thanks for your post here. I have, I confess, engaged with a couple bullies on LEMMY and I always try to say… I don’t like to do this on LEMMY— and I say that precisely for the reasons you mention.

And as you encourage: I will try to be kinder, even in when feeling… hmm… less than kind.

    Bernie's speech today inspired me!

I've had three accounts suspended or exiled from Reddit recently. I posted a link to this piece on the open web and lost another account.

Joan Westerberg has been doing great work on the Fediverse. I pasted this link in the one sub I miss r/idiocracy:

    https://www.joanwestenberg.com/big-tech-wants-you-trapped-the-open-web-sets-you-free-2/

My post was really good — I used Idiocracy speech to get my scros to join me in LEMMY and not only was the post rejected but I earned a temporary ban at Reddit.

At this point there isn’t even a point in going back to leave a breadcrumb trail to be followed.

When Lemmy got named did no one think that the "lemming" association might alienate people?

My guess is that the namer wanted the connotation to be: LET ME.

    How exciting!

But honestly — I try to get people to join and inevitably they say…”Why, so I can follow all the other stupid lemmings?”

    General Discussion @lemmy.world
    wowwoweowza @lemmy.world

I've been searching for a way to discuss a topic that gets me absolutely scorched any time I bring it up but I still think it needs attention.

Picture this: you’re walking down a quiet street in a small town far from any coastline, and suddenly the scent of sizzling spices, the sound of a familiar song, or a brightly colored flag fluttering in the breeze transports you halfway across the world. It’s a little reminder that no matter how far people travel, home isn’t just a place—it’s something they carry with them.

For those whose lives have been upended by war, natural disasters, or economic hardship, finding home again can be an adventure filled with resilience, laughter, and, let’s be honest, a lot of good food. Take, for instance, the families who rebuilt their lives after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. They settled in communities thousands of miles from their coastal villages, bringing with them an unshakable spirit—and recipes that can make anyone feel like they belong.

In a small town in Sweden, a group of Sri Lankan families, displaced after the tsunami, have turned their sorrow into spice. They opened “Ceylon Deligh

    Privacy @lemmy.ml
    wowwoweowza @lemmy.world

I'm starting to believe the "McDonalds" identification might be a slight of hand to protect privacy invasions?

I’m timid about this and might be late to a party where others already had this idea, so please, no haters.

I can’t get over how facile and stupid the identification of LM was at a McDoballs. This is someone who fell off the entire grid for three months??

Just asking… but couldn’t an organization trying to conceal its reach and inevitability track a fella… and then… force an identification?

I do not have any idea about details… it’s broad strokes. Could it be? How many other privacy lovers heard about these three months completely off the grid somehow and also wondered… how?

Please pardon if this isn’t the appropriate place but the real theme is privacy. What if the watchers are always watching even when a person might believe they have made themself completely digitally invisible?

Privacy experts: what's the easiest way to experience what Instagram is feeding others?

Not exactly sure how to articulate this.

My instagram shorts feed feels completely Sci-Fi level manipulative and conditioning.

And I realize that in some ways, I have programmed it.

So it makes me wonder how others are programming and getting programmed by these super manipulative video feeds.

Short of walking up to strangers and asking, “hey, can I compare your feed to mine?” What can someone do to get a more Birds Eye view of what this cancerous infection instagram is doing to society?

What should I keep in mind when creating a Lemmy assignment for college level comp course

Okay Lemmy Champions… I want to spread the news and increase participation. What do you think about requiring an assignment in which college level comp students need to practice critical thinking skills in the subs of their choice at Lenny? What suggestions would you make relating to each an assignment? What negative unforeseen consequences am I not seeing? Thank you.Very
