That used to happen to me. I found I could only listen to audio books if I was doing something else to use up some extra “processing resources.”

I would describe it to other people as an overloaded circuit. If I applied all my brain power at the book, it would overload and shutoff.

If I was doing some tedious task that required some attention, but not too much, I could divert some of that excess energy away without overloading it. So for me that was, stocking shelves at work, doing the dishes, folding laundry, etc.

Driving wasn’t enough so I couldn’t listen to the book. (Though, later, I did train myself to and now I can do it fine)

Yup. Duh. Studies show that when tariffs cause foreign product prices to rise, rather than leaving their prices the same, US brands raise theirs to match because they don’t want their product to seem cheaply made. (But also price gouging)
