  • How is it different from a generic downloader or locally installed yt-dlp?

  • Tbf they're cute and I love their chirping in the morning, so I let their nest inside our balcony be

  • I mean if they get there ang there are like ruins and remnants, that's going to be a good sci-fi horror-detective-thriller story

  • Isn't the god made the human in his own image? Does it mean that the God is badly designed too...

  • Yeah, but you can't connect a second controller in a car :)

PC's for millenials (and Gen Z somewhat) is the same thing as cars to boomers

I was binging the pc building vids the other day, and also listen to one of the old profs talking about their car hobby. The parallels are striking.

  • The people who advanced mathematical research got their glory and pride and the attention of peers. All of them get credited in the names of their own equations and theorems. Also, they all got paid.

If the company is atleast somewhat creditable, it's easier for them to license code properly. Besides, many open source code are licensed under MIT which permits fair use.

You never get the name of artist from the generated piece, even if it's a one-to-one copy of their art.

  • "I have no math talent, but that's ok I'll use a tool to help"

What tools do you need to replace "math talent"? If you're talking about calculators - first of all they're for arithmetic, not math - and second they still do not help you to "solve math problems". You need logic, experience and intellect to do that. The only "tool" thag can help you is an online forum if someone already solved it.

"I can't code so I'll use a web page maker to help"

You still need to do stuff, think with your brain and spend time to build the web page. You need to have taste and work your sweat (and some tears) into it.

"Hey AI, break this concept down for me to help me learn it"

No, not good unless you want to be misinformed and/or manipulated

    society melts down because...?

Because the massive group of people were screwd over without their consent to make a tool that going to devalue their work. If you look closely on the examples you yourself provided, you can see that they all respect copyright of others and are themselves often a good and productive work. Ai on the other hand were made "at the expense" of us, and we are rightfully mad.

    Should we purge doomers?

    Hi everyone!

As a mod, I started getting some reports on people commenting doomer stuff under posts. They're not really great, they're demotivating and most importantly not really fit this communities vibe. I'm not fond of them, but I can't go removing comments and banning people left and right, because technically, they not breaking any rules. So I feel that the community discussion is in order.

If we going to implement a rule against doomers, I think it is very important to define the rule clearly, for it not to be too broad. So I propose the phrasing "blatant doomerism". Here are examples:

    • Blatant doomerism\doomer trolling (comment gets removed, user banned if spams to many comments like this):

    • adequate discus

You could probably get electrical energy that is needed to run a gym (lights, accountant pc, vending machine) if you just install generators in all of this gym's exercise equipment

You also need a big enough battery to get through slow hours.

So you can get the Zero-emissions Off-the-grid gym!

Why did FediDB stopped updating data for Lemmy (and other software as I can see) after November 2024?

I liked to go to the FediDB to look at the Fediverse statistics (mostly how well is lemmy doing). But I got there today after a somewhat long brake and found out that they stopped updating their graphs for individual software since November 2024. But the "all fediverse" graph is up to date so I kinda confused at this point. Does anyone know what happend? Why they stopped? And do they plan on keeping up to date again sometime in the future?
