  • You say pickerel and know about Goldeye. Manitoba or Minnesota or similar? ;)

  • That would qualify as work according to the US gov. Because by doing these chores, you are potentially causing someone to not need to pay a nanny or whatever. Be careful how you define work -- you don't need to be directly paid.

  • I hate fishing games. Just chance games to waste time. But I also hate fishing so...

  • While we're on that topic, Negash Coffee (Niverville, MB) is an interesting one. They are locally owned in Niverville. But the owners are immigrants to Canada and their family runs their actual plantation in Ethiopia. So it's vertically integrated with known sourcing.

  • The orbital mechanics thing is probably the most important. The delta-v to land isn't that bad once you're in orbit, but even getting to orbit is crazy. Also, you'd need a retro rocket for landing that could withstand the temperatures -- which would be a super interesting engineering problem. It already is for the orbital probes, but they don't have to carry enough fuel to land and have different mass budgets.

  • Yeah, if you do it often enough, it'd get so routine as to be super boring. But at least you get to think a bit about it if each case is distinct -- as opposed to assembly line construction.

  • Honestly I should have a plastic cover for it -- like computers in the 1980s! But mostly I just take the air duster to it before starting, and make sure the rails are not binding. If they are, I swab them out and add a little lithium grease.

  • The blue stuff is Canadian Tire Mastercraft. Which is likely different from the US Mastercraft brand. Not sure what Kobalt is.

The only real tools in the photo are the mini metal lathe by Proxxon and a higher end 3D printer from Makergear.

  • Sometimes you need to transfer there to go somewhere else.

  • On the windows gaming machine, I let it do its own thing with UAC clickthroughs basically just notifying me when something is making system changes.

On Linux, I have a separate root password and use some combination of su, kdesu, yast, or whatever, but I never log in as root directly. I don't game that much on Linux (that machine is lacking in graphics horsepower), but things like EU4 work well enough.

  • Important questions. Does Fudge ever eat fudge? Maybe the cat should be call Cheese!

  • I want to take him home and train him to hunt my fruit flies.

  • The wait at the door was over an hour when we tried to go again. But Poke Mono is in the same parking lot and is a good local plan B. :)

Quote from John O’Sullivan Declares America’s Manifest Destiny, 1845

Whatever progress of population there may be in the British Canadas, is only for their own early severance of their present colonial relation to the little island three thousand miles across the Atlantic; soon to be followed by Annexation, and destined to swell the still accumulating momentum of our progress.

Prediction: a US tech billionaire will be arrested before the end of 2025

I'd wager Bezos, but it could be Zuckerberg or Sam Altman. Purpose will be to keep the other tech billionaires kissing Trump's ring -- similar to what Putin did to their oligarchs.

Guide to Staying Anonymous at a Protest

If you want to join a protest but the consequences may deter you. Copy pasting.

It is difficult — sometimes impossible — to stay completely anonymous while protesting, as public spaces mean TV broadcasts, journalists, and other attendees may be taking photos and videos and sharing them online or on TV.

Your presence at a protest is valued, but your safety is most important. Here are some tips to keep safe:

Cover your face with a face mask or bandana. Wearing a medical-grade mask like KN95 would also keep you safer from COVID-19.

Use a whistle under your mask, or carry a noisemaker. This helps you join in the noise without having to use your voice.

Wear a hat and sunglasses. This protects you from the sun, and keeps your face hidden.

Cover your tattoos as they can be used to identify you.

Cover yourself with a poster or banner when you see a camera. It will protect your identity and also display your message loud and clear.

Avoid posting on social media during the protest as thi

    Request: ModView feed

If the user has more than one community they're moderating, the ModView is the feed of only those communities. It's really useful in the desktop version of Lemmy. Wish I could use it in the app. Not sure how difficult to implement. Maybe only show it if you're mod of more than one community or something, so as not to clutter the list of feeds for everyone else.

Awesome work btw. Anything I can do to help?
