  • Some simple things to look into:

    • Change your DNS resolver on all devices to something privacy friendly
    • Use a search engine with less tracking
    • Ublock, Privacy Badger etc for browser extensions
    • Firefox with disabled tracking (look into forks like Librewolf)
    • Change your keyboard on your phone to something local with no tracking (FUTO Keyboard)
    • This for Windows, just use normal settings if you dont know what you're doing
    • Install Fdroid for open source apps. Many privacy friendly options.
    • Look into how to disable telemitry on all the devices you use. Some of the above will already help you with that.

And in general, try to use services from the EU, as its privacy laws are much stronger than other alternatives.

Good luck, let me know if you need something more advanced.

  • I have it on my Pi, and it does the job just fine. But if you have a home server with a little more power, do it there instead.

The last thing you want is your DNS to bottleneck. Never had a problem with my Rasp5, but it all depends on how many other services you try to run.

  • Yeah, they really do throw money around to keep control..

And I know it doesnt help to always say "we need political change" because it's also an easy escape to just say that.

Im also trying my best moving me and my friends to other platforms, and we shouldnt stop. Be the change.

  • Wikipedia is very good, but ALWAYS look for more than one source.

I also once wrote a paper about WW2 in school, and when I got into Wikipedia, someone had edited the entire page to say "Hitler won". Nothing else.

It was only in my language tho, and was resolved quickly.

  • This is where it depends on country.

EU is making better privacy laws, others are making worse. (yes, I know about the encryption bill in the EU, that has never been voted through. I also know about all the privacy laws that actually work here)

  • People want convinience. You'll never get people to do it, unless it personally affects them. Realisticly, you can convert a few.

But most importantly. It shouldnt be that hard to have privacy. THATS the problem. People shouldnt need to do alot of things to get it.

Do something about the problem (political, legally change privacy laws) instead of every single person.

But I know that can be near impossible depending of where you live.

  • My guess is that people who would use DEX is also people who are satisfied with ChromeOS. Which is just as closed down.

Hopefully, when Android does this, they will be under same gatekeeper restrictions in the EU as Windows.

  • Random question, as Im guessing you are from the states.

How impossible is it actually in pratice to vote in other parties than Democrats and Republicans?

Asking because it seems like you got a hard time changing things, if theres no competition in politics.

  • But only as it seems.

EU fines is a ladder system. First offence it can be around the 600m. Next one is % of their income worldwide (not profit).

Should they hit hard on the first offence? Maybe, but getting the first strike is not fun either with how this system works.

  • Okay, real talk guys. If there's one thing LLM's actually CAN do, its language and translation. The best ones are also great at context.

You sound a bit like people yelling at companies for laying off typewriter manufactures when the computer came along.

And we are in the technology community..

  • Imagine if we end up a place, where this tarrif shitshow actually ends up with EU and the world being independent from big tech corps on Maps, Office (Word, Excel), Windows etc.

Sometimes all we need is a wake up call.

People from Europe: Since the US is moving away from the western world we know, who do you see us collaborate more with in the future?

For me it would probably be Canada. Seems like we share alot of values with them, and we could do more trading than we do today.

Especially if they also will have tensions with the US, it would be a win win.

But what do you guys think? Northern Africa would be an obvious choice in the future, but I don't know if they're ready.

PS. This is not a post talking about leave the US entirely. Ofc not. It would just be better for us to work with others and expand our worldview a little.

The US population only accounts for 4.2% of the world.
