  • The Chicken Tax is a 25 percent tariff on light trucks (and originally on potato starch, dextrin, and brandy) imposed in 1964 Eventually, the tariffs on potato starch, dextrin, and brandy were lifted,[4] but since 1964 this form of protectionism has remained in place to give US domestic automakers an advantage over imported competitors.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STOCK_Act

    96:3 Senate

    417:2 House

The real world effectiveness of the STOCK Act at curbing insider trading is up for debate. Insider trading laws which already existed to stop such practices lack specific definitions making them difficult to enforce, the STOCK Act attempts to rectify this but critics argue it does not do enough

  • Dealers, by and large, were NOT being held accountable

More than half of all stores with violations transferred guns without running a background check correctly, waiting for the check to finish or properly recording the results. More than 200 dealers were cited for selling guns to people who indicated on background check paperwork that they were prohibited from owning them. Dozens made false statements in official records, a violation that includes facilitating illegal straw purchases.

A Florida gun dealer got in trouble for giving a Taurus handgun to a convicted felon in the parking lot and an Arkansas pawn shop was cited for selling a firearm to a customer even though he’d failed the background check because of an active restraining order. In Ohio, one store transferred guns without conducting background checks 112 times; another was missing some 600 firearms. A Pennsylvania gun retailer racked up 45 violations and received eight warnings from the ATF. But the store was allowed to remain in business, and went on to sell a shotgun to a man who used it to kill four family members, including his 7-year-old half-brother.

    and then...

A single violation is enough to shutter a gun shop if ATF officials can prove that the store willfully broke federal regulations. In the vast majority of the cases analyzed by The Trace and USA TODAY, the ATF gave violators the lightest penalty available: a boilerplate warning letter reminding them that their compliance is critical to “reduce violent crime and protect the public.” The agency revoked a gun dealer’s license in less than 3 percent of cases.

    The Last Screenwriter

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt32236000/

    "Featured Review" is telling.

Cancel-culture mob missed the point. Shame on the cinemas who cancelled the screening because whinging mobs shook their fists.

First of all, the movie is non-profit. Secondly, it was made by a real human crew and real actors.

It was clever to get ChatGPT to write a film script about a screenwriter who feels his job is threatened by AI's superior writing ability. How can anyone not be curious to watch this movie?

    ...

Ultimately, the script lacks any real punch or decent plot twists or narrative layering that we humans love about film. It doesn't go anywhere you wouldn't predict.

    emphasis mine.

The first is the case of Senator John Fetterman, who committed 31 STOCK Act violations with stock trades involving his children, while others were made in companies he directly oversees.

Barely going to get a fine. This happens daily in congress.

Buy 7 Days to Die at your own risk

    TL:DR

$45 'stable' release, comes with same unfulfilled promises from 8+ years ago.

I really enjoyed this game, I have over 1000 hours on steam and have no idea how much I played on ps4. Hell, the reason I built my pc was to play this game (and custom cod zombies). That being said, I would not pay $45 for the current 'stable' release, probably worth it under $10.

My main beef is $45. Thats how much you charge for a finished game, but this is far from finished. Their own roadmap includes crossplay, weather upgrades, a wardrobe, NPC's, and bandits. This roadmap is 18 months long, if they can deliver all of their promises the game will be 12 years old then. (They will not)

NPC's and bandits are especially interesting to me, because I bought this game for pc in 2017, not too long after reading this blog post

With Studios Attempting To Own Digital Likeness Forever, Lets Have a Look at Posthumous Performances

SAG-AFTRA has gone on strike for many reasons, but one that stands out to me is an effort to make digital copies of extras and maintain the rights to use them in perpetuity. There are many implications of this, from people losing an opportunity to work, to Ethical implications ex:your likeness is used in a movie/tv show/commercial you would not want to be involved in.

I wanted to take a look at some of the past examples of entertainers likeness' being used posthumously.

YSK: No Labels is a political party trying to run a spoiler candidate for President in 2024 that should not be taken seriously.

WYSK: There funded by dark money PACS, but some good reporting has brought out these names: David Koch, Peter Thiel, Reid Hoffman, Mark Cuban, Harlan Crow, and Michael Bloomberg. Some of there members are most famous for stopping big bills. Joe Leiberman, for example, single handedly stopped the single payer portion of the ACA. Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsen Simena kept the John Lewis voting rights act from passing, and famously kept the senate from repealing the filibuster.
