seems that collapsing an image-only comment is only doable by tapping the far right edge of the comment box and i often get a mis-tap and instead frustratingly get the image fullscreen instead... which is exactly the opposite of what i want to achieve with that action š
I've found them comfy on the large-format iPhone. I wonder if they stay near the same absolute size on smaller phones?

Aha, I took the incorrect assumption that all app-wide settings would show up under the settings menu.
Just noticed that mark read on scroll does appear to give the check just as soon as the post scrolls out of view like it's marked read, but often isn't effective, so if i leave a feed and return to it the post is back and unchecked/unread. But if I react, then it does effectively mark it.
Should this show up somewhere as an app-wide setting instead of only as a per-community view tweak?
thanks! i think its a good feature, i was just oblivious to it.
That was it! So does mlem just count posts you've replied or reacted to as read? Or are there some other criteria? I would maybe want some indication that there are hidden posts available to unhide.
edit: also saw the "mark read on scroll"
missing posts
noticed that posts on my local instance that i can see in the web browser arent getting loaded by the app for some reason. this was easy to tell for low-traffic communities where i could account for every post
Scroll to keep collapsed bottom-most comment in view
When I collapse a long comment at or near the bottom of the thread, the viewer is blank and i have to scroll far upwards to find the comment i collapsed. I'd suggest to scroll to keep the collapsed comment handle somewhere in view.
notifications not working on apple IOS phone app
i've been using the ios app and often do not get any notification for an incoming message. seems i often dont get anything until i open the app again. is this a known issue?
Longpost woes
When reading longposts I often lose my place by either a) accidentally tapping the Feeds button in the corner of the screen with the heel of my palm, which scrolls to the top, or b) accidentally tapping the article body (either while actively scrolling or just holding my phone), which collapses the post.
Anyone have advice for avoiding these on longposts? Skill issue?
green leaf icon
I just noticed the newish green leaf icon by some posts. But I didn't intuit the meaning -- does it indicate the age of the account? Old dry oak leaf emoji for accounts over a decade old? š Acorn emoji for accounts opened today? Might be interesting to be able to filter based on these criteria...
keyboard safety
I see a lot of ads these days for fancy mechanical keyboards from numerous brands, but the thing I always wonder about is: how do we know these keyboards dont have keyloggers or other spying tech built into them?
What Iām brewing this week
This week Iām enjoying Barrettās Columbian Huila Natural - Carlos Fernando Red Bourbon.
This is one of the rarer ones that doesnt seem to drop off into bitterness no matter how fine I grind. Because of that I imagine it would make pretty fantastic espresso. The tasting notes of āblueberry, bubblegum, chili powder, winey, consistentā seem all over the place to me, and iām not getting any of those. This coffee just tastes like a nice medium roast to me without any huge standout notes.
Looks like they reused a URL here since it doesnt match the description.

Chromatic Kunjin
Chromatic Coffee Co. Small batch coffee, San JosƩ, California
Today Iāve just started in to a bag of Chromatic Kunjin, tasting notes on the bag of ātart cherry / molasses vibesā seems true to my taste. Itās overall round, very juicy, and syrupy. This coffee looked especially red and velvety to me when ground, and quite low in chaff. I bought it from the discount shelf at the shop in San Jose, and was traveling around with it for a few days and it was filling the car with an irresistible aroma. Once home I had it frozen for about a month before thawing and now enjoying. Doesnāt seem too worse for wear!
Pulsar alternative idea
For those like me interested in the Pulsar brewer, I am considering trying a similar poor-manās setup based on the Oxo compact cold brewer. It also has valve actuation for blooming, and you can sandwich a standard aeropress filter in after its metal filter but before the valve for a cleaner cup. The only catch I can think of is that the valve actuation requires a bottle neck of a fairly specific size, and the bottle it comes with only comfortably holds around 500ml.
Leonid Ramirez Columbia from Pulp coffee roasters
Region ā Quindio | ColombiaTasting Notes ā Watermelon | Lime | Chocolate | StrawberryMedium RoastProcess: Washed Anaerobic
Enjoying the Leonid Ramirez from Pulp coffee roasters in San Antonio. This is one of the rare ones that seems great in pourover no matter how finely I grind. Advertised tasting notes did not align with my experience, there is a mild tartness up front but overall I just find this to be a perfectly delicious and round coffee. This is the least chaff Iāve ever dealt with, I see almost none when grinding.
Stopped in to the roasting facility and was given a small tour and friendly updates about their recent roasts from the owner. Was invited to share a roasterās test brew with the fellas in the shop.
sieve cleanup for coldbrew/frenchpress
today i tried pouring my remaining wet cold brew grounds remnants through a small sieve. i had read some years ago that this was the best trick for catching the grounds but wrote it off, as i thought i didnāt want to have a sieve full of grounds to clean. well, it worked a treat, and was easy to tap out the grounds and quickly clean the seive.
a reminder to myself that heeding the advice of those who have done something before, especially those who have done it for a living, is well worth the time.

Maccy Dās coffee
Tried the coffee at McDo last night. Friends had told me for years that it is very serviceable and always fresh but Iām fairly snooty when it comes to coffee. Anyhow, in my opinion, they were right. Iāve had plenty of homemade stuff that was far worse. Price doesnāt break the bank, at a buck fifty, and it comes out at a reasonable drinking temp. Flavor is about like what you get when making coffee with a fresh-cracked bag of supermarket preground stuff. Just plain old decent coffee. For years I just relayed this recommendation with a caveat that I never tried it myself, but now I can shill for them directly. Wheres my check mickey?
