Hopefully, but if not, it's not too crazy to start one on .ml or something. Fediverse shouldn't be too crazy of a sell to actual computer nerds. They probably wouldn't like you posting about it in the open on the sub (if they were cool they'd straight up migrate), but if you have a relationship with anyone else on the sub you can probably ask them to help you get it off the ground.
The fediverse can form the basis of the new Internet. More use of "local only" comms will help an "underground" start to develop.
I think it would be interesting for Lemmy to add an in-between "neighborhood" level for comms where certain instances like 'grad could interact but larger instances could not. I have always thought it would be healthy for Hexbear to split to a new instance on occasion and federate back when there's a struggle session, but it's also understandable why that hasn't happened yet.
Agree with everyone about cc debt but one addendum:
If you have a level head, go for the max limit allowed. Follow all other advice and auto-pay the statement balance every month no matter what. Never carry a balance, never pay a dime of interest.
A high limit can come in handy for a once in a lifetime emergency expense where the debt is somehow not as bad as whatever problem money can solve. It also boosts your credit score if you are ever in a position to buy property - the agencies like to see that "this person only uses 2-5% of their credit limit".
First job out of uni:
- you are interviewing for the industry not the job
- thus, take whatever job will sign a paycheck into he industry you are comfortable working in (crappiest house in the nicest neighborhood approach)
- from there people will probably start offering you jobs at random, even when you have like 1 months experience. More realistically take 12-18moonths at a shit job so you can complete a project and throw it on your resume, then look for your next hop (probably via a current coworker or internal posting or something)
- government jobs are worth pursuing, if given the opportunity
People have nationalities, religion, culture and want borders between them and the other.
People want their material needs met, and when they get that in an unequal manner under the capitalist system, they want to enforce a border that enables the exploitation of the underclasses to continue. They follow along when the capitalist hegemony points the finger at other nationalities, religions and cultures cause they have no theoretical grounding. We have seen this recently with trump and co. Saying "see those sweatshop slaves in Asia? They need to pay their fair share! These tariffs will fix that" and the seals bark and clap for him.
A 19th century political philosophy isn't doing to change that.
Implying that a political philosophy developed in direct response to capitalism isn't relevant in the still-capialist global mode of production.
Implying that Marxist political philosophy hasn't evolved since Marx. Hint: "Marxism-Leninism" was developed from and after Lenin, making it literally a 20th century development. Maoism later than that, not to mention other newer strains of Marxist theory that are adapted to current material conditions of the 21st century.
It will just cause a lot of people to die.
Implying that the Russian and Chinese revolutions (etc) "just caused a lot of people to die" and there's nothing else, positive or negative, that can be learned from these events. Implying that all was well and peaceful before the communists just showed up one day and started killing everyone who disagreed.
I don't even consider myself "M-L" or whatever, but I encourage you to develop a deeper analysis of these philosophies and historical events. They are going to have a larger and larger effect on your life as the PRC becomes the primary driver of the global economy that you participate in (whether or not you agree with their particular actions and activities)
Most groceries are domestically produced, probably won't be the first thing affected (although posters last week noticed cheaper soy/tofu prices due to the lack of export)
When they want to do the right thing for the wrong reasons.... Just let them

Id take it a step farther and say that I wouldnt address the "socialistness" of an institution as a binary, but as a spectrum of characteristics (of which the PRC/CPC has many, but is lacking others)
I disable it wherever native dark mode is supported but damn if I'm gonna blast my eyes with a white background awhen I'm browsing after 10pm
If you want to see dark mode everywhere: DarkReader

It's not really that bad tbh
Valid criticisms tbh (I even could say the same as a day 0 account lol)
Moderation isn't going to "improve" because they generally are fine with everyone being goofballs, so I wouldn't expect that.
Some people have the cascade of shitposting and useless emojis coming with their crappy views, but I don't think our instance is great at propaganda or ROE, which is unfortunate. Would love to see what we could do with a little discipline.
Also the emojis on every other instance and all mobile apps look more obnoxious because they don't downscale to their intended resolution.
Chet Falizek, a dev who led L4D and a couple other games at valve talks about this a lot on TikTok, now that he's running an indie studio. He's a cool guy, would fit in on .ml or something for sure.
My opinion has always been that NSFW instances should be quarantined entirely to their own "porniverse" or whatever.
And yeah this type of content (underage or pseudo-underage) should be banned entirely in all cases imo.
No, also which instance is that hosted on? .ml?
It's possible for them to tell the computer to shutdown when the battery is getting low

you can't try before you buy.
Most mail order mattresses come with a generous trial period. Not ideal though
