  • Trump has always been a land-owner, he has always relished the thrill of kicking the poors out in favor of maximizing rent profits. The fact that this hits veterans hard is a BONUS to him - they were stupid and weak for choosing the "publicly funded military boondoggle special program" that is a "drain on our budget" and we need to "cut the fat" that is weighing us down. (you saw the tiny hands making gestures as he said that).

  • I stopped going there a couple of years ago unless Amazon reports that they subbed delivery through USPS. My wife's like it's important to go every few days and every time she walks in after saying "not worth the walk" because there is never anything worthwhile anymore. If it's important the app or the email will say so - the post is dead.

  • Best answer to the question here. Neither either of either is right (or wrong).

  • If you're in your 20's experiencing this you should, frankly, check in to an ER. Old guys like me have some similar issues but not as bad as you are describing. Get some help, son.

  • Agree. I have updated my Ubiquity router twice in the last month. I've updated HA ... a STUPID number of times in that span. Whoever wrote that is a dunce.

I do not think this is true.

    cross-posted from: https://aussie.zone/post/19637893

Wifi networks and home automation systems are expected to last 50+ years.

I was reading up on the life expectancy of different building materials when I came across this gem.

Screenshot is of page 122 https://www.portseattle.org/sites/default/files/2025-02/SEA-SIPP%20Technical%20Report%20Appendix%20C%20Life%20Expectancy%20of%20Building%20Materials.pdf

I guess the ethernet cables could last that long, but they rate house wiring to a lower lifetime. Ethernet cables are not "wireless", however.

The only other wireless systems I can think of are garage door openers, but they are definitely not expected to last 50 years.

  • You seem cool, wanna PM to see if we can be friends /s

  • Thanks for the heads up. Must have taken a minute to federate the change, I can see it now. Appreciate your civil response versus..., you know.

  • I've found that if you want engagement then most communities are fairly quiet. This is not /r so there are fewer around. If you want to engage then find a post that resonates with you and engage with it. Lemmings are conversational but you need to poke them to get something back.

  • F-em. Late 2014 Mac mini plex server (also running all the 'arrs) still going strong. I'm not buying a new one until it shorts out and dies.

  • Stupid paywall that 12ft.io couldn't break but, honestly, I'm grateful because the article probably had direct quotes from MTG which would have obviously been upsetting so I'm glad I missed it. Thanks, OP, for making the content unavailable!

  • Carrot Orange soup - hear me out, this is awesome. Coarse chop onions and sauté in a soup pot. Add a bunch of chopped carrots and cook with some veg stock. When tender use stick blender to make smooth and add orange juice, salt and pepper to taste. My wife makes this whenever someone is sick or has a surgery and feels weak. It is a magic soup!

  • I absolutely LOVE running new network cable for stuff - it is so satisfying to run it in a hidden way then crimp the ends and use the cable tester to determine that you jacked up the RJ45's and recrimp until it's right. I have about a 80/20 success rate crimping ethernet cable plugs - it has gotten much better since the introduction of push-through jacks.

Tomorrow I am going to punch a hole through the brick out front to run a cable from the office out to the alley side of the house to mount a POE camera...been putting this off for months because I am not only dull, but lazy (I have said this to myself for over 20 weeks of procrastination so you can safely await my dull post about actually doing it).

  • My bingo card/wish list - Trump gets tied up in litigation/impeachment (first pres to be impeached 3 or 4 times...bring it!) until he is out of office (I suspect his Outlook is already set that way). Then, after, nobody says his name ever again because...let's face it, everyone is just plain embarrassed that it happened - (R)'s (D)'s, even whack-a-doo (Others ... independent, green, what are those guys that think that everything is transactional...forget).

  • That is so freakin' cool! The size of that plant is on display in its stumpy remains...just revel in thoughts of its original girth and height!

Ugh...imagining it's majesty by extrapolation makes me sad at what I see that is no longer there. That makes me sad.

  • Don't worry, worry-worts. There is an armada of data hoarders who will bring this all back after the purge. Data doesn't die as long as nerds and geeks like me exist to persist the knowledge we have attained. Be of good cheer - nobody viewed that data before except a select few who cared, it is still there for them just not officially hosted by our broken system...it will be unbroken soon enough.

  • I ditched Netgear due to poor performance and went with Ubiquiti. I'm fortunate that I could afford to buy a console for management but if you're willing to self-host then there is no cost there. You could then get several APs (they have some as low as $99) and you're all set.

  • Generally start with crown royal and 7-up over ice until my 12-ounce 7-up is empty then switch to coors banquet (stupid stubby bottles) until it's time to turn in - which is now.

  • I draw the line at whiskey/beer. I need both in order to watch the evening news. I won't engage with socials until properly lubricated by both.

    "This is fine." (meme)

  • I suspect that the same majority of all shareholders of everything except "truth soscial" (I know, not publicly traded) feel the same. The value of diversity is proven and anyone who is against is obviously dumb.

  • As a long time plex pass user, is there anything there that would make me want to switch? Plex has just plain worked for me for years. mobile apps, everything is just great. Why should I look around?

    Just clicked in because...

I've been a follower of the other (dull_men) sub and, of course have hit the dull.men forum at (yuck). I even watched James May try his hand at being uninteresting on TV. I have come to the conclusion that I am so dull that I have nothing interesting to contribute. This is my legacy and I know that this cements my place here.

Looking for a cheap dopamine hit ;)

I love playing with my HA and associated devices. I suspect that most of you reading this get a bit of a jolt every time you add and incorporate a new sensor, camera, integration and get to play with it.

I have all the door/window sensors and locks/covers, every angle of my exterior covered with cameras, alarm, network devices, appliances, sprinklers, household devices covered.

Any ideas for a new thing I can play with?
