  • In 1928, Amelia Earhart entered public notoriety for being the first female passenger to be flown across the Atlantic Ocean.

Ok, I did not know that. And yes, she definitly isn't remembered for that ... so I misinterpreted your initial comment.

Still not quite sure what your point was. Seems like you were just dropping a very convoluted fact in a rather dickish manner. But I appreciate it none the less.

  • Danke für den Kommentar. Sehr gut getroffen.

  • Learning phonetics markup might be even more annoying than learning extra letters. I always hated those in school.

    English does use Türkiye now

That's news to me. But this is also not an American/English thing. In German Turkey is called "Türkei", which is also proncounced differently.

  • Why can’t they just allow kids in schools to learn the true names of things no matter how hard they may be to pronounce?

The problem is reading, as some langauges have different letters. For example English doesn't have a "ü", so using "Türkiye" in English makes no sense. It it just get's worse with langauges like Chinese or Japanese, which have completely different writing systems.

    Issue with mod appointment

I've been appointed as a mod 3 times now.

The action shows up in the modlog straight away, but it always takes a couple of hours until it actually works. Then, serveral hours later it seems to just reverse itself.

I suspect it has to do with ongoing federation issues on the side of lemmus.org (the instance of the head mod account). All post from lemmy.world are delayed by about 12 hours on that instance.

Maybe the delayed federation somehow messes with the mod appointments?
