Also, it isn't 'decentralization' in the strictest technical sense. That's what the Decentralization Scoring System is trying to show.
It's meant to explain what decentralization is and is not. That's all.
On November 4th 2024 (election day) I woke up and told my self that I'd try to take a 45 minute walk every day. Since then I've only missed a handful of daily walks. My emotional/mental/physical health has increased substantially. Fortunately, my eldest son and our dog come along as well.

Please look at the big picture here. The Fediverse exists only because of a very niche user base that are technologically exposed to it.
The general public HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE that the Fediverse exists.
Therefore, it would take either an enormous amount of incredibly generous people to market/advertise the Fediverse OR a fuck-ton of money to pay people to market/advertise the Fediverse.
more people need to self-host, or at the very least we need more mon-and-pop style datacenters.
most would rather offload hardware costs and, more importantly, security, to those more knowledgeable.
running one’s own hardware is extremely time intensive, nevermind power and equipment costs
These three points that you've made are NOT accurate. I could go into great detail as to why this is but I won't waste our time nor embarrass you.
The problem, unfortunately, always comes down to money.
This isn't a technological problem.
All of the popular widely used corporate platforms gain more users because they have the money in which to market/advertise themselves.
I Believe That It's Important For All of Us to Understand What 'Decentralization' Truly Means. Please, Let's Talk About That
Recently, I've been learning more about this subject. Today I came across the Decentralization Scoring System and it slapped me across the face.
Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen says Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongly deported, told him he has been moved from the notorious Salvadoran prison known as CECOT to a detention center with better conditions.
The Maryland senator said that Abrego Garcia reported he’d been moved from a notorious Salvadoran mega-prison, CECOT, to a detention center with better conditions.
Abrego Garcia’s status after Van Hollen left was not known, and there was no indication that Van Hollen’s trip pushed him any closer to release.
Copying a comment from Reddit:
Yeah. This is good. E.g. an account claims to be a NYTimes journo, it can then be verified by the NYTimes account. Or an account claims to be an NBA player, that gets verified by the NBA / team account. And each of those verifications will show who granted it.
Contrary to the predictable FUD in this thread, it decentralizes control. Makes it meritocratic - i.e. you earn the privilege to issue verification by proving to be a known and credible source.
Changes spotted in Bluesky's codebase indicate the app may soon get a blue check verification system, similar to the look of Twitter's.

A federal judge on Friday blocked the Trump administration from deporting noncitizens to countries other than their place of origin without due process.
Turns out that microplastics in human bodies may not be as bad as feared. The most recent article I read concerning this is that early findings are that normal/average amounts of cardiovascular exercise (ex. walking) per week will rid the body of microplastics through sweating.
Don't get me wrong here. That may be good news, for now, for us humans. However, there is still a lot of research that needs to be done. Not only for its effects on humans, but all the other environmental issues as well.
A US-born man initially charged with being an “unauthorized alien” in Florida has been released after spending the night in jail on a 48-hour hold requested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement amid the Trump administration’s broad deportation crackdown.

Senator Chris Van Hollen just met with El Salvador's Vice President Félix Ulloa. The VP told Van Hollen that the reason they are holding Kilmar Abrego Garcia at CECOT is because the Trump administration is paying them to do so.
Boasberg held there was probable cause to show the government's transfer of immigrants to CECOT without due process was a willful violation of his order.

An Introduction to the Hebrew Bible - Second Draft from a Shelved Video Project
I've had many years of involvement with /r/AcademicBiblical and /r/AskBibleScholars (I am the founder of the latter). A few of us endeavored to create a YouTube channel for public education purposes. It turned out to be more difficult than we expected. Therefore we shuttered the project. Below is the second draft of the script that would have become our first video.
There can be quite the confusion when people learn that the regular Bible they know is considered a different religious text from the Hebrew Bible. But rather than generate more controversy than the Bible as a whole has in history, it is only right to seek to understand what the less-understood Hebrew Bible is all about and what it means to its particular audience, the Jewish religion.

I understand all of that. What I’d like the OP to address is how Bluesky could turn into something resembling Twitter if it’s, technically, very different.
Did you read the article? Do you understand, technically, how Bluesky differs from Twitter (X)?
