Je zegt dat “Nederland nog altijd F-35-onderdelen aan Israël wil leveren,” maar dat klopt niet. Nederland levert geen wapens of onderdelen rechtstreeks aan Israël. Die rechtstreekse levering is zelfs verboden door de rechter, en Nederland houdt zich daaraan.

Wat Nederland wél doet: het levert onderdelen aan het internationale F-35-programma, een samenwerking van negen landen, met de Verenigde Staten als hoofdcoördinator. Die onderdelen gaan naar centrale productie- en assemblagepunten, vooral in de VS. Van daaruit worden F-35’s geleverd aan verschillende landen, waaronder Israël.

Elk deelnemend land aan het programma , of het nu Israël, Nederland, Italië of Noorwegen is , krijgt F-35’s waarin onderdelen zitten van allerlei partnerlanden. Ook Nederlandse onderdelen kunnen zo uiteindelijk in Israëlische toestellen terechtkomen, net als in toestellen van andere landen. Maar dat is een indirect gevolg van het gezamenlijke productieproces, niet een gerichte levering aan Israël.

Nederland is al twintig jaar onderdeel van dit programma. De VS financiert het grootste deel van ontwikkeling, productie en onderhoud. Meedoen is geen vrijblijvende keuze: uit het programma stappen zou betekenen dat we onze eigen luchtmacht en F-35’s niet meer operationeel kunnen onderhouden, geen toegang meer hebben tot cruciale technologie, en dat we geen betrouwbare NAVO-partner meer zijn. Zoals minister Brekelmans waarschuwde:

“We zouden ineens buiten een programma vallen waar Nederland al twintig jaar in zit […] dat schaadt onze reputatie als defensie (navo) partner.”

Bovendien heeft dit gevolgen voor bondgenoten die wél op nieuwe toestellen rekenen, zoals Oekraïne. Door onze deelname aan het programma zorgen we voor onze eigen veiligheid, maar helpen we ook onze Oekraïne.

Je hoeft het Nederlandse beleid niet te steunen. Maar het is belangrijk om het wel eerlijk en feitelijk te bespreken, juist als het om zoiets gevoeligs gaat als oorlog, mensenrechten en herdenking. link

Kan ook zijn dat ze terughoudend zijn om Amerika en Trump, Israel-fan, niet voor het hoofd te slaan... Je weet hoe Trump is als iets hem niet aan staat. Maar ik heb het kabinet al meerdere keren gehoord dat ze het verachten wat er nu in Gaza gebeurd

Ik snap niet dat omdat er minder overlevenden zijn, het leed daarmee “indirecter” zou worden? De kracht van herdenken is juist dat we het verleden levend houden, ook zonder directe lijnen.

Ik heb zelf geen directe familieband met de Tweede Wereldoorlog, maar dat maakt de impact ervan voor mij niet minder. Wat er toen in Nederland is gebeurd, blijft indrukwekkend en diep aangrijpend. Geschiedenis raakt niet alleen via persoonlijke herinneringen — ook via besef, onderwijs, herdenking en collectief bewustzijn. Bovendien: het is nog helemaal niet zo lang geleden. We leven nog steeds in een samenleving gevormd door die oorlog — in politieke structuren, morele lessen, en familiegeschiedenissen van mensen om ons heen.
