  • Is there any browser engine left? Servo maybe?

If the engine starts getting crappy because of these LLMs, I think the internet enshittified to the maximum.

  • In searxng they don't give the same results, bing brings some completely different stuff both on an selfhosted instance and on an public instance (it just gives random garbage), it seems proxying does some stuff to bings internal algorithm, as google is different than startpage on searxng.

  • They give different results, it seems they have different treatment to the data, which is interesting. Startpage gives different results than google, duckduckgo gives different results than bing, but on the bigger picture, a bigger sample gives the statistically optimal result??? (closer to the source truth on the most probable good result) question mark, huge number theory on statistics.

    (i'm drunk)

  • Bing and yahoo are VERY bad, it seems they detect that they are being used through proxies, I made another comment for what i use in searxng.

  • I just searched in there, like the new yorker: https://flipboard.com/@NewYorker and got the handle to follow the profile @NewYorker@flipboard.com, on the magazines I got the handle https://flipboard.com/@newyorker/cartoons-1hgpnrb6z and put the name (without the random alphanumeric) with the account like !cartoons-newyorker@flipboard.com.

  • Yeah, I checked after the comments here and it's maybe taking some time to send the posts or there is a problem with the threads/sending to the communities. On my instance, the posts are reaching after 15 to 30 minutes. Maybe there needs to be some better integration, maybe talking to the flipboard team or having some different integration, but idk.

  • Fediverse @lemmy.world

We can follow the news directly from the source using flipboard over the fediverse

  • Imagine if the bubble pops and simply all these companies go bankrupt (because the shares are all tied by these mega deals), will there be ANY computing means available?

  • I run my instance using cloudflare tunnels, directly from my thinkpad (over wifi), these tunnels are helpful because you don't need to open ports, etc, also, there are other tunneling options, like hosting a server on a VPS that tunnels to your own selfhosted server, as there are some alternatives to cloudflare in that aspect.

    Idk, might be an option.

  • 100% agree

  • Do Lemmy threads end up on search engines?

Probably yes, even if the instance blocks bots, they will go to another one to get the post, these ai bots are a curse on all instances.

  • The video talks about the slopification, commodification, that kind of thing, of current culture and art. It's an art viewpoint, not a sociological viewpoint (culture being the shared behaviour, customs, in a society).

Edit: I think this is an interesting pov, that's why I shared, it seems the title is a little clickbaity, but the video is good.
