  • Moderators do an important unpaid task as a service to the community. They don't need a philosophy degree to do stuff like removing spam, doxxing or rude comments.

Sometimes there will be moderators who do end up going on a powertrip and ban everyone they don't like. In those cases it's probably best to just move on to different communities. If you feel a bit petty and want to complain, you can post it to /c/yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com

  • A hereditary monarchy is still not an oligarchy 🤷

Sure, not saying it is. I was arguing against Cowbee's claims of North Korea being a democratic system controlled by the working class. North Korea is not a classic oligarchic system however, so I'd agree with your reply to OP.

But anyway, you’re only talking about the head of state. They have an entire system running there

I don't think that any kind of democratic system is possible under a head of state with that amount of worship and cult of personality around a single person. The structures for a democratic system underneath may exist, but when it's not possible to act out of line or speak out against the great leader, they might as well not. All the evidence I've seen suggests that it's not. Both from North Korean media itself, which I've watched quite a bit of, and from the mouth of North Koreans who managed to get out.

  • You're no doubt well-informed on the theoretical systems of those countries but you can't just look at the theory and be like "that's exactly how it works in real life". It's a fact that leadership in the DPRK has passed on from father to son for 3 generations now - any country that does that is a hereditary monarchy, not a people's republic. Kim Jong Un was never part of the working class. He was raised in palaces and sent to an elite college in Switzerland. You don't even need to trust any Western media on this - just watch a few minutes of North Korean TV and you'll hear how the leaders are basically treated as gods. Many people who threatened or spoke out against their rule, including those in the "royal" family like Kim Jong Nam, have been murdered or disappeared.

  • There were and are so many dumb and incorrect conspiracy theories that I think it's understandable that people would outright dismiss them, even if there was a real conspiracy.

Take the deep state. Sure, you can say that there absolutely is a deep state of oligarchs influencing/controlling governments. But if you read about that topic on conspiracy forums, you'll quickly find it getting entangled in bullshit like Pizzagate or QAnon. They said Donald Trump would be the one to finally "expose the deep state", which is just laughable. On the same forums you'll find stuff like "flat earth". So why would anyone use those places as sources of trustworthy information?

  • I would have said around 15-16, but I think it's also important to note that there are many degrees of trust between blindly trusting everything the government does and becoming some kind of "sovereign citizen".

I believe the government often doesn't act in the people's best interest and that many politicians are fundamentally corrupt. I do believe our institutions mostly manage to uphold our constitution though, and that my country has a functioning democracy. I don't keep all my money in cash at home, that seems both paranoid and unsafe.

  • Such a shame that they won't give this a proper physical release.

  • I use Firefox on all platforms.

  • Didn't say it was, also I'm not a vegan. But you do realize there are options that are neither petroleum nor animal-based?

  • That has to be the first non-vegan fork ever made.

  • Why from Germany and not one of the countless bases in the Middle East?

  • Clockwise, to me, goes forward. The file explorer sorts from top to bottom by default. It makes perfect intuitive sense to me. You may say that volume and time go "up", but it's not like they're literally moving in space in an upwards direction, are they? They increase.

  • Italian beaches should just be given back to the public. Those tiny paid parcels of beach just suck.

  • Kuwait and UAE have US military bases. Iran doesn't really have the ability to attack the US directly. Pretty sure they did also target Israel.

  • Keep in mind that this is much more powerful hardware than what previous games were running on.

  • And it looks a little bit more graphically impressive than previous instalments?

Definitely, but anything else would have been very disappointing. They have much more hardware power at their disposal compared to Switch 1 after all. I don't know if I'd say that these are impressive graphics by Switch 2 standards, but they're finally at a point where they look nice, which is ultimatey all that matters.

  • Finally, hardware is powerful enough that even Gamefreak can make a decent looking 3d game!

In all seriousness though, it looks pretty nice. Looking forward to the return of diving. South-east Asia is an interesting setting for a new region. I have a feeling IGN isn't going to like it though...

  • Nein, eine Mitte-links Koalition wird es nicht geben. Es wird zu 100% entweder Schwarz-Grün oder Grün-Schwarz. Aber letzteres mit Özdemir als MP wäre für mich eben zumindest minimal besser.

  • The most trustworthy reviews are always those where the reviewers just bought the products. Even when it's not as blatant as it is here, there's always a motivation to not anger the company too much when you get their products early and for free.
