  • You're absolutely right, but haven't I read that they're learning to lie about their presence in the manophere? So if it's, say 10% who actively think and act that way, plus 15% passively subject themselves to it without going all in, but who aren't really judging, that's 1/4 guys who I wouldn't risk a relationship with, many of whom are actively hiding their positions. I can see why it wouldn't be worth it to date any man. Especially for someone with her experiences.

    And my IRL impression is that it's way more guys than 15% who intentionally expose themselves to it, and slightly more than 10% who fully buy into the misogyny.

  • They've put a lot of effort into convincing us that it's was only peaceful protests that were effective in the civil rights era. IDK if they were really peaceful but at the time they were certainly called violent.

    And the government made sure to make white people genuinely afraid of violence.

  • I don't have the ability to easily verify users. A user verification service would be great. I think it could work decentralized, but maybe have a separate service for it. Servers independently authenticate, and federate with each other. If one starts authenticating poorly, defederate.

    I don't think it's a good fit within Lemmy or Mastodon, or .... Because I don't think someone who runs a server wants to bother with it. It needs to be it's own service that integrates with other services.

  • There really isn't anyone who can step in when the ultra wealthy are fucking up. It's hard enough for us poors with no power anyway, but Ye has enough money that he can do what he wants.

    If he wants help he can afford it, but of he doesn't there's no rock bottom for him.

  • I won't deny that "On Tyranny" takes a liberal perspective and assumes that liberalism is the goal. But it's an excellent short read and worthwhile on it's own merits from an anti fascist perspective.

    It's also worth reading because it's very accessible to liberals, many of whom have realized that the fascism we've been talking about is real and is really here.

    Subscribing to mastodon

    Given the different way they apps are structured I don't even know if it's a sensible question, but is there a way to subscribe to something on a Madison server?

    The server as a community, or a tag as a community? Does mastodon have some other concept that I could subscribe to?

    import down?

    I'd like to migrate to bookwyrm, but after I created my account I saw that imports from goodreads agent working right now. How long has it been down? Is it likely to get fixed soon?

    Teaching Old Streams New Tricks, by Victor Klang

    I was skeptical of gatherers ergonomics based on the jep, but this devoxx talk really makes them seem more approachable.
