Wow, looks like the facebook tactics are creeping in. Fb started notifying users to pull them back on the platform with "x person commented on y person's post (that you've never interacted with)", and half the time those notifications didn't link to the post, and you couldn't turn them off. I'm not sure how that brings people back at all.

I'm baffled by your blind faith in politicians. There's been clear foreign influence on just about every major social media platform.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/17/tech/tiktok-user-data-oracle/index.html Definitely, definitely correct. A company that's owned by a foreign nation shouldn't be a problem. And if you think that this doesn't set a precedent for banning anything politicians don't like, then I feel sorry for your naivety.

The US has control of US tiktok servers. This is bannable because politicians want the power to control social media.

Wouldn't that be nice, if the powers that be didn't grab for more power lol

If that was a catalyst for many others to do the same instead of an isolated incident, we wouldn't have called it an assassination. We would have called it a revolution. In the kind of time and society we find ourselves in, this is the closest we'll ever get to a revolution. And I say, viva la revolución!

I was on tiktok and even created for it for a bit, but it did get exhausting quickly after getting flooded with a painful amount of ads. I do like short form content though, I've been enjoying Loops!

These bans are bad. All it takes is for the US to think the fediverse is a threat and this goes too. You clearly don't like the platform and that's okay, but don't root for government censorship on the internet.

This year in particular has just been a fucking awful job market. I lost my job in January and had severance last a couple months, but even after spending every day reading job boards and filing job applications until I was emotionally exhausted, I had zero callbacks for seven months. It was only a few months ago that I got two interviews, and I got offers from both. As soon as I accepted, I had some other companies suddenly crawling to me with offers. I'm still recovering from my debts accrued in that time, but I'm finally in a much better place now. Keep going at it, and I promise something will crack.

I had this kind of moment with Prey.

This is definitely a big blocker for my move to Linux as well, I'm heavily dependent on my Elgato HD60 X

I think it would be hard to nail down the overall demeanor. Of course there's the stereotype that men are closed up emotionally and sometimes male toxicity enforces that, but I think it really just comes down to how people develop emotionally and if they feel secure to trust others with those emotions.

I definitely struggled to wrap my head around it at first, but I got used to using it when I got into DevOps, and once you understand it, it becomes so easy and helpful that it's easy to overuse it. I can certainly answer any questions to the best of my ability if you do look into it!

I've had all my servers running on my personal Windows machine, and I've been planning to move them to a dedicated Linux machine, as well as move to Linux on my PC. Part of that involved containerizing my whole setup to make the move easier. There's a script listed in Jellyfin docs that helps you migrate your setup. Itzs a bit involved if you're coming from Windows but very doable. Very easy if you're already on Linux though.

If anything, all I can really imagine that's necessary is to not worship him. Kind of like when you get out of grade school and find out that the US founding fathers were not in fact gods, but disgusting men that were products of their time.

My robots.txt has definitely only partially helped. I'll have to see if I can do the same with my Caddy setup.

It's just another part of the wide range of fantastic options for post-natal abortions, from the fourth trimester onward!

It's been a bit since I've asked them, but they certainly complained about the cost before. Almost as much as the hosting itself for sure.

I've tried explaining to them before, but they think that it's a scam because it's free lol

The 2nd Unofficial Legend of Zelda Cookbook
I got my hands on a Master Edition of the first book years ago and fell in love with it! I'm super excited for this. What are some TOTK recipes that you guys would want to see?
Surface Linux question
I've already had lots of concerns about continuing to use windows, but recall and copilot in general send me reeling. I'd like to start migrating to Linux on both my machines, but right now it would be much easier to do so on my laptop than my main PC just yet.
The main concern I have is that I've had rough times with drivers on laptops running Linux, so I want to assess the QoL of Linux on Surface. I've dug around already on reddit and lemmy and seen some mention of the Surface Linux drivers that exist, but I'm hoping to get a personal account of as close a scenario as mine would be.
I'm big on KDE Neon, and I want to run it on my Surface Laptop Studio. Can anybody tell me if you've done the same or similar, and how is it? What's the most trouble you've run into?
